MHGA Chapter 311: Alliance Confirmed
"Before we go any further, I'd like you to reintroduce yourself," Meteora said to Kairo Retsu. "Specifically, what exactly the Frenzy Virus is, your true identity and objective, and the origin of the Frenzy Virus itself. We hope you can explain it all in detail."
Meteora noticed her calm tone might come off as interrogative, so she added,
"This isn't an interrogation or anything of the sort. It's just that we've already laid a lot of groundwork in our current plans. Any revisions would require a thorough understanding of your side."
"I understand. Let me think about where to begin…"
Kairo rested his elbows on the table, sitting cross-legged as he looked at the four people in front of him—each representing a Created Being, the government, a Creator, and a party related to the Military Uniform Princess.
"First, my identity. I'm a Monster Hunter." Kairo traced a line on the table. "My job is to hunt monsters that significantly disrupt the ecological balance. And this time, the source of the Frenzy Virus is one of those: the Gore Magala."
"As for those so-called 'stories' that were circulating online before? I posted them," Kairo said. "Because I needed to give our side a reason to 'appear' here."
"'A reason to appear'?" Meteora echoed, confused for a moment—until realization struck.
"So… you knew about the Military Uniform Princess, didn't you?" Meteora asked.
"You could say that," Kairo said, scratching his nose. "We've got Hunters focused on intelligence gathering, so we're well-informed."
"And since we already had some idea of what was going on, we adjusted our hunting plans and decided to cooperate with you," he continued. "We don't know the exact reason, but the Military Uniform Princess has decided… to protect the Gore Magala."
"That Gore Magala… is the source of the Frenzy Virus, right? So what exactly does the virus do?" asked Takashi Matsubara, curious as an author.
"The Frenzy Virus…" Kairo explained concisely, outlining the Gore Magala's biology and its viral effects.
"Fortunately, when it comes to non-monster humans, the Frenzy Virus isn't that lethal. But the issue is…" Kairo continued, "its infectivity increases as its lethality decreases."
"In the Monster Hunter world, the Frenzy Virus is a huge problem."
Kairo gestured on the tabletop with his fingers.
"It affects monsters and non-monsters differently."
"The Gore Magala releases scales—scales filled with immense life force. No matter where it goes, monsters infected by the virus start appearing. Monsters that live in frozen waters, magma, highly corrosive environments—even extreme habitats—can all be infected."
"For non-monster species—like humans," Kairo pointed to himself, "it induces agitation, an urge to attack others. But it won't drive them mad to the point of death like it does with monsters."
"If it were more lethal, maybe it'd be less scary…"
He painted them a grim picture.
"This is a virus that doesn't kill small lifeforms, but drives large ones into a frenzy that ends in death. The small creatures, as vectors, spread the virus again—and through the natural flow of ecosystems, it eventually infects apex predators in the region."
"In simple terms: it's like combining full-body organ failure with a hyper-contagious zoonotic plague."
"Even though your world doesn't have monsters, the Frenzy Virus is dangerous enough." Kairo said. "We have to wipe it out before the Gore Magala spreads its scale-dust across this world."
"Spreading scale-dust… That's the doing of the Military Uniform Princess?" Meteora asked, brows furrowed. "We understand now how dangerous the Gore Magala is—and your reasons for joining the Altair subjugation operation."
"We've seen firsthand the danger posed by those 'Frenzied monsters'..." she continued. "You're definitely not Created Beings."
"Does it really matter, though?" Kairo replied. "Even without the Gore Magala, we'd probably help."
"After all, a Hunter's duty is to slay anything that threatens ecological balance. And right now…" he paused, "the Military Uniform Princess is treading dangerously close to that line."
"You know about Altair, don't you?" asked Sota Mizushino, looking directly at Kairo. "Altair… she's protecting the Gore Magala? Why?"
"You're asking me?" Kairo rubbed his temples. "Honestly, her protecting it is giving me a headache."
"She's just too powerful. She breaks the rules of balance. She can use the entirety of her fictional data—every single ability from every fan creation—on herself. That kind of power isn't something you can handle under normal parameters."
"So when it comes to the Military Uniform Princess… you'll have to deal with her yourselves," Kairo said. "We're just Hunters."
"As for why she's protecting the Gore Magala… who has time to figure that out when we haven't even finished our primary hunt?!"
"Compassion, mercy, and reflection—those are luxuries for people who've completed their duties! Until then, hesitation is nothing but a betrayal of one's responsibilities!"
"I understand now," said Aki Kikuchihara, adjusting her glasses. "So your group wants to cooperate with us in ending the Elimination Chamber FES project—to defeat both Altair and the Gore Magala. Is that correct?"
"No problem!" Kairo said, pulling out pen and paper. "Want to add a couple side stories to the lineup too? That way, we can connect these other franchises into your worldview—"
"WHAT?!" Matsubara yelped at Kairo's suggestion, reacting like he'd just been stabbed. "Hey, hey, hey!! We're already drowning in deadlines!! You want to dump more on us!? That's physically impossible!"
"This is easy!"
Kairo triumphantly pulled out bottles from his pack—green, yellow, brown…
"Potion! Dash Juice! Energy Drink!!!" Kairo declared, presenting three iconic Hunter consumables.
"Energy Drink banishes sleep! Dash Juice grants infinite stamina! Potion can bring someone back from the brink of death!!!"
"Even a total rookie can fight for a whole week without sleep after chugging these—!!" he roared.
"HEY!!!! Do Hunters not have any basic labor rights or something!?"
