MHGA Chapter 313: Pre-Battle Preparations
"Achoo————————!!"
While eating a warm Felyne Meal in the Gathering Hub, Kazuma Satou suddenly let out a huge sneeze.
"What the hell? I'm a Hunter now—can I still catch a cold?" Kazuma pulled his coat tighter around himself, then cheerfully went back to enjoying his meal. "What a relaxing time…"
"It's just a short break while we eat," Joseph glanced at him.
After resolving the matter with Kars, Joseph no longer had any responsibilities left in his own world. His only remaining task was salvaging DIO's coffin from the ocean.
Currently, not only in the Re:CREATORS world, but in other worlds as well, Frenzied monsters were appearing sporadically.
And once a Frenzied monster appears, time resumes flowing in the Hunter world—so worlds with time constraints need those monsters dealt with as quickly as possible.
However...
Laios returned to the canteen looking downcast, his expression gloomy as he took a seat.
"Laios, what happened?" Naofumi Iwatani walked in from another direction and noticed his mood. "Weren't you sent to Madoka's world to handle a Frenzied monster? Why do you look so dejected?"
"The monster that showed up in Madoka's world… it was a Yian Kut-Ku again…" Laios answered dispiritedly. "I wanted to try grilled Yian Kut-Ku liver again—that's why I volunteered…"
"But when I got there, the Yian Kut-Ku had already been taken down by a magical girl with spiral-shaped golden twin-tails," Laios said in defeat. "So I had no choice but to come back."
"Golden twin-tails… that must've been Mami Tomoe, right?" Naofumi's mouth twitched. "So you didn't even bother remembering her name. You really are… only interested in monsters."
"Looks like each world has its own natural immunity," Himmel smiled gently and said, "Maybe that's nature's way of restoring balance… those who attempt to disrupt the ecosystem will face its counteraction."
"But the biggest problem is still Gore Magala," Naofumi said, his tone turning serious. "Gore Magala and the Military Uniform Princess… those two together are an impossible challenge no matter how you look at it."
After a moment of silence, Naofumi turned to Himmel.
"Himmel… if you had to fight the Military Uniform Princess, could you defeat her?"
"..."
Himmel paused, running a simulated battle against Altair through his mind. After a moment, he shook his head.
"I could manage to land a sword strike on her. I could injure her," he said calmly. "But what happens after that… I can't handle it."
"Her powers are too complex. I alone cannot resolve it." Himmel added, "If I were to borrow Frieren's words…"
"I can imagine myself stabbing her with my sword. But I cannot imagine how to kill her."
"I see…" Naofumi fell silent too, then looked down at his Four Holy Shield.
Is such a broken entity only defeatable through non-standard powers?
Maybe the Seven Deadly Sins series of the Four Holy Weapons could catch her off guard…?
Just as Naofumi was lost in thought, Kairo Retsu's voice rang out loudly from the base's main gate—so loud that every Hunter heard it.
"I'm back!" Kairo held up a list in hand. "I've reached an agreement with the Re:CREATORS officials! We can officially start preparing for the Military Uniform Princess battle!"
"Huh?"
The Hunters blinked, and then saw Kairo, still wearing a yukata, burst into the canteen.
"! YOU BASTARD!! You went to the hot springs by yourself!! Without taking us!!" Kazuma exploded with rage.
"Ah, not just me," Kairo shrugged. "Madoka and the other four went too. After we handled the Arzuros, we went straight to the hot springs."
"THAT MAKES IT WORSE!!!!"
Kazuma's fury nearly materialized into a tangible black aura.
"What's this about a collaboration?" Naofumi, one of the few Hunters who actually took things seriously, sighed and took the list from Kairo.
"Put simply, we're being illustrated into their crossover! That means we can legally appear and start fighting!" Kairo explained. "Recognition power doesn't mean anything to us, but at least now we can fight openly."
"That's good news… but what's this monster list about?" Naofumi looked down at the paper. It wasn't a list of participants—it was a list of monsters.
"These are the monsters we can reasonably hunt down at our current level," Kairo said. "Before the final battle with Altair, we need to hunt these monsters, get used to High Rank gear, and finally—"
"If battle alone isn't enough to counter her, we'll have to make use of the same mechanics." Kairo's eyes gleamed. "In fact, I've got a few ideas on how to end the fight with the Military Uniform Princess."
"You mean… following the original Re:CREATORS plotline?" Naofumi asked.
"Similar… but not quite the same," Kairo clenched his fist. "I need to find out why Altair chose to side with Gore Magala!"
"I don't think it's just a coincidence that she's using the Frenzy Virus—I don't buy that! That's why this hunt has to happen!!"
"Do we have… enough time?" Naofumi scanned the long list. "There's a ton of monsters here… and we'll need to hunt more than one of each…"
"Simple!"
Kairo pulled three bottles out of his backpack—thud, pop, bang.
"Potion! Dash Juice! Energy Drink!!! Energy Drink repels sleep! Dash Juice gives unlimited stamina…"
"HEY!!! Don't you care about our rights as Hunters?! YOU BASTARD GUILDMASTER!!"
Kazuma lunged and started grappling Kairo again.
"This is about saving the world! No time for breaks!" Kairo yelled back as the two of them rolled into another chaotic fight.
"Upgrading gear…" Naofumi looked down at the list, then at his Four Holy Shield. "Yeah, I do need to update my equipment."
"I want to HUNT!" Laios instantly perked up. "Lemme see that list!!!"
"Show me all the monsters!!!"
