MHGA Chapter 355 – Hunters in Battle (3)
"Ugh…"
Kazuma fell silent.
Looking at the three members of their original first-generation Hunter squad, Kazuma sank into thought.
Joseph—still a young man in his prime—had only just concluded his own story, and the abilities he brought with him were limited.
First, Hamon.
Second, his Stand.
Third… the vast financial power of the Speedwagon Foundation.
But Joseph's Hamon was currently quite weak, and expecting it to affect an Elder Dragon's immense vitality was pure fantasy. His Stand wasn't a combat-type either… and as for the Foundation's finances, there was no way to utilize them here.
Kazuma had only brought Aqua with him. Besides some helpful buffs from Aqua, he didn't have much personal combat ability to speak of.
Naofumi Iwatani, meanwhile, had solid defenses—but no real offensive strength outside of Hunter weapons.
The three veteran Hunters stood there, staring at each other blankly.
It was then that a girl's angry shout rang out from the sky above.
"MAGICAL SPLASH FLARE——————!!"
Mamika Kirameki had somehow arrived on the battlefield without them noticing. Having completed her transformation, she unleashed her ultimate attack with all her might.
A pink magic blast cannon struck the Shagaru Magala, sending up a heart-shaped mushroom cloud of smoke centered on the monster—an astonishing sight.
But the Shagaru Magala flared its scale-wings violently, dispersing the blast shockwave. It charged out of the explosion, and the breath from its mouth swept across the battlefield like a beam cannon, grazing past Mamika Kirameki. In an instant, several low buildings in the path of the breath were obliterated.
The only reason the Shagaru Magala's aim was off was because Hibiki Tachibana, having briefly recovered with a Potion, had resumed singing her Swan Song and landed a punch that knocked its head aside.
Simultaneously, attacks from all directions continued to rain down upon the Shagaru Magala. Most of them failed to do any real damage, but they still managed to disrupt its movements slightly.
Blitztokka—a detective gunslinger from the world of Cyberpunk—had fired a gravity round capable of affecting most fighters on the field, but against the Shagaru Magala, it only managed to slightly slow the monster's attacks.
Other attacks produced similar results… only a handful, striking parts of the monster where its scales hadn't fully regenerated, could inflict any real damage.
Realizing that its movements were now being tracked by this gathering of enemies, the Shagaru Magala no longer held back its power.
Flying through the air as much as possible, it continually gathered its breath attacks, targeting those few who could truly harm it.
If it could catch them, all the better. But the nimbleness of these tiny creatures made them nearly impossible to pin down.
And then there was that two-legged ape riding the Chaotic Gore Magala—the one carrying the defeated fool who had provoked its dignity—rushing it again and again.
But what enraged the Shagaru Magala the most… was the growing number of golden scales on that twisted creature's body.
"ROAAAAAARRRRR————————!"
A cry of agony and torment burst from the mouth of the Chaotic Gore Magala—agony as though its body was being torn apart.
The source of that pain… was the swelling, incomplete power of the Shagaru Magala inside it.
In order to gain even the slightest ability to rival the Shagaru Magala, the Chaotic Gore Magala forcibly amplified its own strength.
Altair and Sirius were using their All-Encompassing Array to suppress the influence of the Shagaru Magala's scale-dust on the Chaotic Gore Magala.
If the Gore Magala's transformation into the Shagaru Magala had been natural—a true metamorphosis from the root—
Then the transformation of the Chaotic Gore Magala now was completely wrong.
A pitiful creature straying from the Shagaru path—no matter how much the Shagaru's power swelled within it, it could not fully control that energy. Its body, still that of a Gore Magala, couldn't withstand the might of an Elder Dragon.
And the further it pressed down this mistaken path, the more intense its suffering grew. Death crept ever closer to the Chaotic Gore Magala.
But now, it was forcing itself—dragging its failing body toward the limits of that broken path.
Before its flesh completely gave out, it poured every last ounce of life into this moment.
Blood dyed the transforming golden scales a deep violet-gold. Its right wing-claw no longer resembled a Gore Magala's at all, instead looking far closer to a Shagaru Magala's.
The compressed Frenzy Virus within it seeped from its feelers, forming a broken crown. Dark purple blood oozed from the blind right eye of the Chaotic Gore Magala.
"..."
Kairo Retsu saw the Chaotic Gore Magala's agony—he saw it all.
He could not betray that pain. Steeling himself, Kairo Retsu urged the Chaotic Gore Magala forward—charging at the Shagaru Magala with a desperation born of resolve.
Two colossal dragons collided again and again in midair. Scales shattered. Blood sprayed.
The Chaotic Gore Magala was now fighting desperately—trading a thousand wounds of its own to inflict eight hundred on the enemy.
All Kairo Retsu could do was use Wirebugs to steer the Chaotic Gore Magala away from as many of the Shagaru Magala's attacks as possible, while also searching and thinking—desperately—of a way to change the situation.
During the heat of battle, Himmel had found Kero-chan and entrusted Setsuna Shimazaki to her care. Then he immediately joined the fight.
As one of the few high-power combatants among the Hunters, Himmel took the Shagaru Magala by surprise with his first strike.
The Shagaru Magala had not expected that a tiny being leaping from the ground could unleash such explosive force in an instant.
Its carelessness cost it dearly. Himmel leapt onto its back and carved a deep, bone-exposing wound with his Sword & Shield.
Though the wound began regenerating under the monster's immense vitality, Himmel had already succeeded in further enraging the Shagaru Magala's fighting spirit.
After being thrown off by the Shagaru Magala, Himmel was caught by the Chaotic Gore Magala. Crouching low on its back, he narrowed his eyes—searching for the right moment to launch his next strike.
All of this… was being captured by the broadcasting array inside the Birdcage, streaming the footage into the command center.
Inside the operations room, the atmosphere had grown exceptionally tense after everything that had just happened.
