MHGA Chapter 359 – Area Change (7)

By the time the Shagaru Magala realized something was wrong, Naofumi Iwatani had already latched himself to its head.

His launcher—loaded to capacity with projectiles—was aimed squarely at the Elder Dragon's skull, and in a split second, all the ammunition fired in a barrage, forcibly driving the Shagaru's body straight into the shield wall Naofumi had summoned earlier.

The violent impact left the Shagaru Magala stunned and off-balance. Its massive form toppled sideways, struggling to rise from the ground.

"NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Seeing Naofumi's success firsthand, Kazuma, Joseph, and Laios didn't hesitate for a second. Each pulled out a Mega Barrel Bomb G from their packs and hurled it down from their elevated position—landing squarely where the Shagaru had fallen.

[In Monster Hunter: Wilds, Hunters can hurl Barrel Bombs by hand. Similarly, in Rise, they can drop Mega Barrel Bombs from midair while leaping.]

The three had specially changed into gear granting the Bombardier skill, which boosted the effectiveness of their bomb items.

[Bombardier: Increases the damage dealt by bomb-type items.]

"Throw it!! Keep throwing!!!"

Kazuma and the others didn't pause for even a moment—hurling bomb after bomb like a Bazelgeuse dropping its explosive scales.

The continuous, deafening blasts lit up the Shagaru Magala's body. Mega Barrel Bombs, which ignored defense thresholds, dealt real, tangible damage—drastically reducing its vitality.

After two bombs each, the trio swiftly opened their Gathering Hub menus, blending new Mega Barrel Bomb Gs from materials stored in their packs—then immediately resumed their bombardment.

With practiced rhythm, the three kept hurling bombs downward, their explosions gradually tearing through the Shagaru Magala's scale-wings.

Once one of them ran out of bombs and materials, he sprinted toward the supply box beside Silly Cat, grabbing a fresh set of Mega Barrel Bomb Gs and more crafting items to continue the assault.

The Elder Dragon tried to stand—but just as it rose to its feet, another bomb crashed down, re-opening the wound Himmel had inflicted earlier on its back.

The jolt of pain dropped the beast once more—just in time for another barrage of bombs to rain down.

"Kazuma… I knew you could do it!!"

From afar, Kairo Retsu clenched his fist and shouted with excitement. "That's my bro for you!"

But Kairo Retsu wasn't just watching idly. He immediately activated the Hub voice channel to tell Naofumi to retreat and simultaneously guided the Chaotic Gore Magala into position.

Taking a deep breath, Kairo Retsu extended his Iron Silk Wire to channel the Gore Magala's power.

"Wyvern Riding Ultimate Art…"

As the Chaotic Gore Magala began its ritualistic, almost dance-like movements, its Frenzy Virus condensed, swirling tightly in the air—compressed over and over again, waiting for the Shagaru to rise.

When the Shagaru Magala finally staggered to its feet under the relentless bombing, the Gore Magala's Wyvern Riding Ultimate Art was fully charged.

A cataclysmic explosion erupted, centered directly on the Shagaru Magala.

The shockwave was so powerful, it blasted Kazuma and the others off the rooftop.

As the dust and heat faded, Kairo Retsu anxiously looked toward the impact zone.

But—the Shagaru Magala hadn't fallen.

Its entire body was battered, covered in wounds… yet it still stood. Its eyes were locked unyieldingly on the airborne Chaotic Gore Magala.

The Shagaru had clearly taken massive damage.

Kairo Retsu exhaled in relief—if they kept steady pressure, they could finish this battle inside the Birdcage.

The Shagaru Magala, meanwhile, was keenly aware of its critical condition.

Its energy reserves were nearly depleted. It had repeatedly tried to devour lesser beings to recover but had been stopped each time.

To make matters worse… that twisted thing, once one of its own kind, had just dealt it a severe blow.

The Shagaru felt threatened—and yet, a sense of unwillingness burned within it.

So… with what little power remained, it surged upward—charging straight at the Chaotic Gore Magala and Kairo Retsu.

Kairo Retsu raised his Hunting Horn and Iron Silk Wire without hesitation, ready to fight. But as the Shagaru Magala closed in, it didn't attack the same way as before.

It dodged the Gore Magala's counterattack, then bit directly into the joint of its right wing claw—twisting violently to hurl Kairo Retsu from its back.

Kairo Retsu was thrown through the air, stunned—only to see the Shagaru glaring furiously at him. It completely ignored the Gore Magala's struggles, clamping down harder on the wing joint before soaring even higher into the sky.

"Let go—!"

Altair tried to intercept and save the Gore Magala. But just then, a spatial rift appeared before the two dragons.

The Shagaru flapped its wings violently, dragging the Chaotic Gore Magala through the rift.

By the time Altair reached the rift's edge, it had already slammed shut.

"!"

Kairo Retsu saw it all happen—and for a moment, his mind went blank.

The Shagaru Magala… forcefully dragged the Gore Magala away?

What just happened?

Kairo Retsu slammed into the ground, leaving a deep crater, though miraculously unharmed.

He immediately opened the Hub menu to check the quest status—only to find that nothing had changed.

However… the objective marker had shifted—to a different world entirely…

They had nearly defeated the Shagaru Magala. It was on the brink of death. So why had it suddenly left?

Only then did Kairo Retsu realize—

Did the Shagaru Magala… change areas?

Just like other monsters that flee when seriously injured, did the Shagaru Magala retreat from the Hunters to find a safe place to recover?

"Damn it—where did it go?!"

Kairo Retsu punched open the world map panel—and saw a location name he'd hoped never to see.

The name of the city… where Madoka was.
