Cherreads

Chapter 5 - 5. Food

Just a few minutes later, those vegetables also went in the pot.

"Now we wait."

As they are waiting, Brig handed out some plastic bowls and spoons to the group, he also handed out a complimentary loaf bread for each one.

Albert bit into the loaf and his eyes immediately widened.

"Is this really bread?"

The rest of the group also inhaled the loaves in few seconds, without waiting for the soup to finish cooking.

"Eh... anyway, I'll just give you guys another but please wait a little bit more."

Brig looked at his measly stock of loaf bread crying internally.

A few minutes later, the soup was ready so he handed out the bowls first before giving the rest of the loaves.

As the food was given, the group dipped the bread on the soup eyes wide open with each bite.

"Slow down guys, its hot. As for the bread those were the last I got for now."

As everyone finished eating, they thanked Brig for the food and began packing up.

"Packing up already? it's not even been an hour?"

"Yeah, food was our least priority, since there was a battle earlier we still need to check on our current statuses like weapons, injuries, armors, supplies and such."

Albert replied with a serious heavy tone.

Brig then realized that these guys were not your typical 'run of the mill' group. He only saw adventurer parties on games before and games do not have this type of pre-battle preparation concept yet.

"I have inspected everyone and so far we only lost 5 arrows, a throwing knife and a slight nick on Warren's shoulder blade armor."

Sharon the mage along with a notebook came up to report with Albert.

"Let me see how slight."

Warren didn't even hesitate to come over and showed his shoulder blade armor.

"It's still usable but maybe I'll buy a new one after this mission"

"Hmm, the scratches ain't that bad but I think it served its purpose already. Anyway, as agreed we will buy a new one and the 50% will be taken off our funds."

"Sure"

Seeing the scene, Brig only thought that this group is incredible. They even have a profit sharing scheme.

"Maybe I'll sell these guys some weapons when I come back, I mean... those knives look like one time use. The bow.... even my grandfather don't have something that ancient. Don't even get me started on their gears.... come on otherworld, I'm expecting to see at least some mithril or some +5 glowing items."

Drunk on his gaming fantasy, Brig has decided to sell things back from earth and these guys would be his first customer.

"First things first.... we don't have in game currency.. I mean.. this world's money so lets try getting some."

..

"Hey guys... I heard you will go shopping after this mission? would you mind if I tag along?"

Brig, obviously unfamiliar with this world basically hired the group as his tour guide for free.

"No problem! Also... you look like you're not from here. Do you have somewhere to stay?"

Albert enthusiastically asked Brig to stay with them.

"Warren said you're a good guy and even Vetti likes you.. why not stay with us for a few days? It looks like you're not in a hurry either."

"Eeeehh? Are you sure? Actually I don't have anywhere to stay right now so that would be a huge help." ...

is what he said but internally he's blushing since he also got a place to stay along with the tour guides, what a bargain.

..

The convoy departed with Brig in tow and Albert chatted with him along the way, few hours later before dusk, they arrive at a huge gate and a wall expanding up to a few meters above.

The soldiers welcomed the convoy along with everyone and the commander went to Brig and the group.

"Hello, this is the reward for the mission and this one is for you esteemed mage."

Commander Leonard handed Albert a bag full of coins a piece of metal that looks like a lion to Brig.

"This is my family's emblem. You can contact me through the guild so please pay a visit anytime."

Brig smiled at the commander but he had wished it was money instead.

"Looks like I need to explain to you what that emblem was."

out of everyone, only Warren sensed the dissatisfaction on Brig's face.

"That emblem means that commander Leonard, no the Vishul family had just became your patron."

"Patron?"

"Hmm.. how do I explain it.. a backer or something like a guarantor."

"What does having a guarantor mean?"

"It basically means that they have your back. Like if ever you got in trouble for something, just showing the emblem means you're one of them. The best part is... Vishul family actually controls most of the guards and soldiers. Messing with you means messing with the military."

"Wow, this thing suddenly felt a little bit heavier now."

"Hahaha for now, lets use that emblem already.. raise it up and show it to the guards."

Warren urged Brig to flash the emblem to the guards while they are entering the city. In return, the guards widely opened their eyes and saluted to Brig and the rest of the group while they are entering.

"Hahahahaha, normally they charge small fees for those entering the city. Specially for you, since I think you don't have a city ID yet right?"

"How did you even know that?"

"He just knows.."

This time, Albert interjected

Out of all the people he had met, only Warren can read him like an open book but he was not uncomfortable at all.
