Chapter 42 - "A Demon's Payment"

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"W-Wha—?!"

Asia froze, eyes wide like saucers, her cheeks instantly blooming with pink.

This… this sister Shihō… she's way too bold.

She wanted to avert her gaze, but it felt like her whole body had turned to stone. No matter what, she couldn't move.

Vermouth, watching her reaction, chuckled softly."Don't make such a big deal out of it. Shihō's just doing this to get stronger."

"???"

Asia's face was full of question marks.

What does that have to do with getting stronger?

"Well, you see…"

Akemi Miyano hesitated for a moment, but still explained.

Wait… that's the reason?

Asia's expression twisted into something indescribably weird.

Did she just join the most shameless servant group in existence?

A moment later, Shihō Miyano finally pulled away from Edgar's lips.

Gulp!

She collapsed onto the sofa, throat moving slightly, like she was savoring some mysterious aftertaste.

Her white blouse rose and fell with her breathing, outlining every perfect curve of her body.

That soft, full shape was… very hard to look away from.

Noticing Edgar's gaze, Shihō straightened a little and said:

"Oh right, Master—

While you were away, the exorcism office got completely renovated. We can open for business any day now.

And for that, I passed out a ton of flyers."

Her breathing deepened, and something strange flickered in her eyes, almost like they were speaking on their own.

For a servant reporting her achievements, a proper master should reward—or punish—accordingly.

Edgar took out a set of car keys… and tossed them right onto her face.

Shihō instantly lit up with excitement.

After all, doing all this work meant she deserved her "payment."

She held out both hands, her heart pounding with anticipation.

"Hey, that's not fair!"

Vermouth, who had been explaining servant knowledge to Asia, immediately complained.

Since when did this woman get so sly?

And wait a second—who's supposed to be the witch here?

She'd helped out plenty with the exorcism office too, so why was all the credit going to her?

Without another word, she lunged forward.

Whatever happened, she wasn't about to lose her share.

In an instant, the living room turned noisy and chaotic.

"Alright, alright—you're all my servants. Everyone will get a reward."

Edgar reached out, caught Vermouth, and held her back so she wouldn't get into a scuffle with Shihō.

"Um… I… I'll just head out now."

Leaving those words behind, Asia completely lost her composure and bolted from the room.

Edgar watched her retreating back for a moment, then turned to Akemi Miyano."You did a lot for the exorcism office too.

Shouldn't I reward you as well?"

Akemi's body stiffened. "N-No! Serving you is already my honor."

"Alright then, I'll make a note. If you ever want something, just come to me."

"I… I understand."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Akemi practically sprinted upstairs.

"Master, I'll go cook dinner for you all!"

Bang!

She closed the kitchen door, sank into a chair, and felt like her heart was going to leap right out of her chest.

Hands covering her face, her eyes grew unfocused.

"This feels… strange…"

The summer heat was stifling, and she found herself hugging her arms around her chest, fingers tightening slightly.

Edgar's voice echoed in her mind.

Was that… a flutter of excitement?

Almost without thinking, she placed a hand over her heart, a small smile curling at her lips.

Maybe… it was time for her to take that step too?

After all… sooner or later, she'd probably be "eaten" anyway.

Meanwhile…

Asia hid in the hallway, still completely flushed.

That first scene had already been a massive shock for a brand-new servant like her.

But who could have guessed—things would escalate even further afterward.

Her head was still spinning, refusing to work properly.

Was that really how a master was supposed to reward a servant?

Was that… okay?

Or was this just the unique way demons lived?

Her tiny pink fists clenched slightly, her heart sinking into an unfamiliar fog of confusion.

Would there… be a day when she'd be "eaten" too?

She sank to her knees, whispering a prayer."Almighty Lord, please guide—ah, ow ow ow…"

Night slowly fell.

Lights flickered on quietly in the room.

Edgar glanced at the clock—it was already late.

"Alright, everyone, clean up a bit."

"Yes, Master."

Hearing his order, the two tired women got to work tidying up.

Edgar took the chance to check their stats.

[Shihō Miyano]

Race: Demon

Master: Edgar Lucifergus

[Vermouth]

"Not bad… Looks like it won't be long before Shihō reaches high-ranked demon status."

As his second servant, she'd always received the most rewards, so it was only natural her strength grew so quickly.

Vermouth, for her part, was also working hard, never letting the gap between them grow too wide.

"Master, we've finished cleaning!" ×2

"Master, we still want to get stronger!" ×2

After casting a cleaning spell, Shihō and Vermouth wagged their little heart-shaped tails like eager puppies, eyes fixed on Edgard.

"Alright. We've got important business later."

He waved his hand lazily and stretched.

According to the intel from Donasik, their meeting was set for tonight.

There was still a little time… but not enough to waste.

After all—granting blessings, whether for a master or a servant, was not something you stopped halfway.

"..."
