Chapter 11 - Chapter Twelve: The Dare

The Suite

The suite was silent but for the hum of the city beyond the glass. Towers shimmered in fractured light, steel and night sky tangled together.

Julian stood at the window, jacket gone, sleeves rolled once. Every line of him was order, restraint, the kind of control that commanded without words. His eyes tracked her as she entered: gray, merciless, steady.

She still wore his coat. Heavy. Black. Claimed. But beneath, the lace burned against her skin, alive with every step.

"Close the door," he said.

She obeyed.

The Reveal

Her hands brushed the lapels of his coat. Her pulse raced, but her fingers were deliberate. She slipped the wool from her shoulders, letting it fall to the floor in silence.

The lace beneath was a weapon: sheer and intricate, framing her breasts, shadowing her stomach, garters biting high against her thighs. Daring. Indecent. A secret carried all night for this moment.

Julian's jaw flexed. His breath caught sharp, unguarded, then locked down again. He didn't move, didn't speak. But the air thickened until she could feel the strain in his restraint.

The Dare

She didn't wait for command. She sank slowly to her knees, palms pressing into carpet, green eyes lifting to his.

Her hair slipped loose, lips painted deep wine, parted and unflinching. Not supplication. A dare.

His breath shifted, hands twitching once at his sides. He was built on discipline, carved from control, but something in her crawl threatened it.

She leaned forward, lips grazing close to his thigh, voice breaking the silence like a blade.

"You want."

The Hold

For one suspended heartbeat, truth tore raw across his face: want, sharp and unmasked, before he shuttered it again.

But she had seen.

And she knew.

This was the dare he couldn't ignore.

The pivot she'd forced.
