In the throne chamber, the air hung heavy, thick with uncertainty.
Amaras knelt beside Mimi's small, motionless body, brows drawn tight. The Deathguards formed a loose circle around them, weapons sheathed but hands near hilts.
Ever since the corrupted version of Amaras had forced his way into the Noctifelis, the little creature had collapsed. She lay flat upon the cold stone floor, breathing shallow. Her body twitched from time to time, soft, restless meows slipping from her throat as though she were trapped within a troubled dream.
None knew what battle raged within her. None knew what outcome awaited.
A short distance away, Emilia remained suspended within her Trial of the Crown. The streams of bloody tears that had once flowed from her closed eyes had dried, yet she had not awakened.
Silence pressed down on the chamber, suffocating and absolute.
Then, Amaras stiffened. His eyes widened.
"Gone," he breathed.
