The ground soon began to shake intermittently beneath our feet, and the beating of metal symbols echoed throughout the settlement as alarms were raised.
A sentry tired from his run back and forth had his hands on his knees as he bent over, gasping for air. He recovered enough to stand and start talking. His voice was cracking with panic.
"It's coming! A large-scale beast is coming!"
When I walked away from the group standing around the sentry and out of the settlement, I saw a colossus on the horizon.
It was so big that my breath caught in my throat just thinking about us going up against that thing.
A giant pangolin-like creature lumbered toward us, its body glinting under the twin suns. Its armoured plates overlapped like a fortress wall, and from what I could see here, each one was larger than a shield.
The beast was as large as the chief's great tent, the one that could hold fifty people comfortably.
