The fiasco of the assassin being silenced was virtually swept under the rug. The gathered crowds slowly dispersed without further drama.
"I guess that's that, huh?" I said, my voice not low but not too obviously stabbing into the dark.
I walked over to the gathered Elders, Hasef standing to the side, his two wives behind him.
"Have you gotten the chance to examine our gains for this expedition?" I asked.
"No, we were so focused on the assassin that the warriors had just dropped off their packs and gone to their tents and families." Chief Hasef said his expression was slightly pinched.
"Go and retrieve one of the packs and bring it here," I turned and said to Yusuf, who was still by my side.
He ran off and came back hurriedly, lugging a stuffed bag.
The Chief and the elders watched with a bit of excitement as Yusuf placed the bag down between us and opened it to show its contents.
