Universe 7, God of Destruction's World
"Master, this is so weird. I've clearly awakened godly power of my own so why do I still have to transform to reach a divine state?"
The moment Gohan returned, questions poured out of him.
His fight with Toppo had made something clear: even after evolving godly power, he still needed a change of form to push his strength to that level.
Whis didn't answer directly. "To untangle that, you first need to understand what God Ki is and what divine power is."
God Ki is what mortals obtain when their ordinary ki crosses a threshold and is elevated into a divine layer.
It can't be sensed by normal ki-sensing; instead, it manifests as a higher-dimensional pressure.
But this elevation is, at its core, just refining ki itself to raise combat power. That state is what people call a "Divine State".
Mortals who reach a Divine State this way stand below true gods in rank, but anyone who can elevate mortal ki to the divine layer isn't weak. In pure battle terms, a being with God Ki will often outfight many Supreme Kai who are technically true gods.
Divine power, however, is different.
It is the simultaneous elevation of body, ki, and spirit flesh, energy, and will advancing together.
A mortal who evolves genuine divine power can rightly be called someone who has stepped into the True Divine Realm. Their rank becomes equal to a Supreme Kai's, their battle power climbs accordingly, and crucially they slip free of normal lifespan limits.
"That means… my Super Saiyan God form already counts as the True Divine Realm?" Gohan asked, unable to hide his excitement.
Whis nodded. "It does."
Then he added, "But making that your base state keeping the True Divine Realm active without transforming isn't simple. In fact, it's very difficult."
"How so?" Gohan leaned in, fully focused.
"To normalize a True Divine state in a Saiyan body, you need an extremely durable physique and most of all time to accumulate it. Super Saiyan God isn't like a Supreme Kai. You already know this: most Supreme Kai come from the Shinjin (the Core People) and enjoy natural advantages plus help from the Supreme Kai of Time. For them, attaining the True Divine Realm can be easier than becoming a God of Destruction. They can even pass on the office by succession.
"Saiyans are different. The Saiyan God is a god of battle. Ancient lore says you needed both goodness and great fighting power to become one. You've met those conditions. But making Super Saiyan God your base no Saiyan has a precedent for that. Your race becomes divine by battle power, and your innate talent lets you, while still 'immature,' reach godhood via transformation. That's a tremendous gift but it's still a transformation."
Whis's analysis was razor precise.
Gohan kept nodding. It matched his own guesses exactly. He'd already suspected that to fight long in SSG, his base would need to break into the hundreds of billions. Whis had essentially said the same thing normalizing SSG demands a monstrous body as a foundation.
After giving Gohan a moment, Whis continued, "There's something else. Because the form's power jumps so sharply, Saiyans who achieved it in ancient times were drawn into constant battles. In one crisis after another, the Saiyan Gods died out. Only remnants of their bloodlines limped along to the present. That's why the universe has never produced a permanent, base-form Saiyan God."
"Then, Master, what base level do I have to reach before I can keep SSG as my everyday state?" Gohan pressed. Whis kept circling; Gohan wanted a number.
"Hm… that, I don't know," Whis said at last.
"You don't know? Are you messing with me?" Gohan yelped.
"Calm down. There's no precedent, so there's no fixed answer. But if you keep raising your base and stay alive, you'll hit it eventually." Whis's tone was maddeningly mild.
"Stay alive, huh… So did my lifespan change? Am I immortal now?" Gohan latched onto the key point.
"A Saiyan's lifespan can reach a thousand years if the body carries no invisible damage. The reason we don't see long-lived Saiyans is that your kind fights too much, good or evil alike. In your case, once you achieved that SSG state, your lifespan began to extend. Even if your base hasn't yet reached the True Divine Realm, the divine power hasn't vanished; it's quietly working inside you, lengthening your years. Don't be reckless, keep living, and you will one day make SSG your base."
"So that's the 'time' you said I needed?" Gohan frowned.
"Not only time. Besides building your base, you need to comprehend divine power itself. The day you can manifest a god's power while in base, you'll know you're close to normalizing the True Divine Realm." Whis's explanation was crisp and clear.
"I get it, Master. Then what about the power of rules?" Gohan still had a mountain of questions.
"That's trickier. The power of rules is something grasped only when divine power is pushed to the limit and even then, it usually requires a gift from a higher god to wield. Even Lord Beerus, one of the top Destroyers, received Hakai the Power of Destruction from Zeno, not through his own epiphany.
"Across the whole cosmos, cases like yours are vanishingly rare almost nonexistent. I don't know why you can already dip into a sliver of rule power when you transform both in Super Saiyan and in that Mystic state. But I'll say this clearly: don't abandon that path. Even after becoming a Saiyan God, keep walking it. When both roads are driven to their limits, the two powers may catalyze one another fusing into something higher. That's exactly what I wanted to tell you."
On its own, "Super Saiyan + Mystic" didn't impress Whis much.
But the moment rule power was involved even a whisper of it things became… unsettling. Even Whis hadn't seen this flavor of rule power before.
"Understood, Master. I won't give up either path. For now, I'll focus on pushing my base higher and keep moving forward one step at a time," Gohan said, spirit blazing.
"Good, good. Not aiming too high too fast rare, and excellent. I was worried you'd get cocky. It seems you won't." Whis's smile turned genuinely pleased.
"In that case, I'm heading home. I've been gone for days Mom's probably ready to explode! See you, Master!"
With that, Gohan vanished in an instant.
Whis watched the empty air and chuckled. "This little one… not bad at all."
