Goku hovered high in the sky, looking down at the massive building below. He immediately spread out his senses and tried to find Raditz's ki.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Just then, two figures shot up into the air and stopped in front of him.
"This is the Grand Prison. Flying here is forbidden!"
"Leave immediately! Who are you?"
The two prison guards barked at him sharply.
"Uh... I'm Goku. I came to see my older brother, Raditz," Goku answered honestly.
"Raditz? That Saiyan with the tail?" one of the guards asked at once.
"That should be him. He's the one who offended the God of Destruction," the other guard said with a nod.
"He's your brother?" the first guard asked, staring at Goku.
"He really does look a lot like Raditz," the second guard muttered.
"Do I? I don't think I look anything like my brother," Goku said, shaking his head.
Both guards instantly looked speechless.
Was that really the important part here?
"Raditz is under special orders from the God of Destruction. No visitors are allowed. You can leave now," the first guard said.
"Huh? I'm not allowed to see him?" Goku asked, surprised.
"That's right," the second guard replied with a nod.
"He's still alive, right?" Goku asked.
The two guards fell silent again.
Was this really his brother?
Who asks that like this?
"Oh... I found his ki. Thanks. I'm heading off now," Goku said.
The moment he finished speaking, he used Instant Transmission and vanished on the spot.
The two guards froze, staring blankly at the place where Goku had disappeared.
They hurriedly looked around in every direction, but Goku was already gone.
...
Inside the Grand Prison, in Raditz's cell.
Raditz wore handcuffs on both wrists and shackles on both ankles. They had been forged from cosmic essence and a special alloy.
With power at his level, there was no way he could break free.
Forget Raditz. Even someone as strong as Cell would not have been able to break those restraints.
Raditz sat on the floor of his cell, looking half out of it.
Before he knew it, he had already been locked up here for five full years.
"Dad, when the hell are you coming to get me out of here?" Raditz sighed heavily. "Don't tell me you forgot all about me. What kind of father does that to his own son?"
"Hey, Raditz, you're still alive. That's great."
Goku's voice suddenly sounded right beside him.
Raditz jumped so badly he nearly sprang off the ground.
He whipped his head around, immediately recognized Goku, and stared at him in shock.
"Kakarot? You?" Raditz exclaimed. Then he glanced at the airtight walls and the cosmic essence glass around the room, completely baffled. "How did you get in here?"
"Uh... I came in with Instant Transmission," Goku said with a grin.
"Instant Transmission? What's that supposed to be?" Raditz asked, not following at all.
"Well... that takes a bit of explaining," Goku said, scratching his head.
"Then explain it. I've got nothing but time in here," Raditz replied with a nod.
"Well, it all started on Yardrat..." Goku began.
Then he launched into the full story of how he had learned Instant Transmission on Planet Yardrat, telling Raditz every last detail from beginning to end.
Twenty minutes later...
Raditz: "..."
"Shut up! You don't need to explain it that thoroughly!" Raditz snapped, looking like his soul had left his body.
"Okay, fine, I'll stop. You get it now, right?" Goku asked with a smile.
"What are you even doing here, Kakarot?" Raditz asked through gritted teeth.
"Dad told me to come see you. If you've truly repented, I'm supposed to take you out of here," Goku said, finally turning serious.
"Of course I've repented! Hurry up and get me out of here. I'm sick of this place!" Raditz said, his eyes lighting up. Then his expression shifted slightly. "So Dad still remembered me after all... I thought he'd forgotten I existed."
"If I take you out, are you going to start killing people again?" Goku asked sternly.
"No. Of course not. I'd never do that again," Raditz said, nodding over and over.
Goku just looked at him in silence.
"What's with that look? Are you doubting your own brother?" Raditz said with a snort.
"I don't know... it still feels like you haven't really changed," Goku said, thinking it over.
"What are you talking about? Who says I haven't changed? Look at my eyes. Don't they look sincere?" Raditz said, doing his best to force a heartfelt expression.
Goku: "..."
"Well, I hope you really mean it. Don't go back to doing evil, okay? I can save you once, but I can't keep saving you forever," Goku said with a small sigh.
"Hmph. Relax. As long as you get me out of here, I'll still recognize you as my little brother," Raditz said quickly.
"All right then," Goku said after giving it some more thought. In the end, he decided to take Raditz with him.
Goku had actually thought about this a lot.
He had spared even someone like Frieza.
So why should he refuse to forgive his own brother?
After spending so many years in prison, Raditz should not go back to doing evil.
And even if he did, Goku knew he had more than enough power to stop him now.
Back then, beating Raditz had been impossible.
Now, at the very least, Goku's strength had long since surpassed his brother's.
"Then let's go," Goku said, reaching out and placing a hand on Raditz's shoulder.
"Can that Instant Transmission thing really take me straight out?" Raditz asked.
"No problem," Goku replied with a nod.
He used Instant Transmission at once, and the two of them disappeared from the cell in an instant.
Not long after Goku and Raditz vanished, two guards came by on their usual rounds.
When they reached Raditz's cell, they glanced inside out of habit.
Then both of them froze.
The cell was empty.
The two guards looked at each other, both utterly confused.
The room was so bare it could be taken in at a glance. There was nowhere inside to hide, so the chance of Raditz somehow concealing himself was basically zero.
"Did that guy learn some kind of invisibility trick?"
"I've never heard that he had a skill like that!"
After exchanging a few hurried words, the guards rushed forward, unlocked the cell, and searched the room for Raditz.
Of course they found nothing.
Then they ran to the control room and pulled up the security footage.
The recording clearly showed everything, from Goku's sudden appearance to the moment he took Raditz away.
Everyone watching the monitors was completely stunned.
"How did that guy get in here?"
"He appeared out of nowhere, disappeared just as fast, and took the prisoner with him!"
"Sound the alarm! Don't let them escape!"
Riiing! Riiing! Riiing!
The prison alarm blared instantly.
A prisoner had escaped.
Large numbers of guards flew up into the sky at once and began searching for Goku and Raditz.
At the same time, staff hurriedly reported the incident to the king.
The moment the king heard the news, he shot up from his throne, his face darkening.
Who was bold enough to break into Planet Sadala and stage a prison escape?
"Issue the order immediately. Search the entire planet for Raditz. If he refuses to come quietly and continues to resist, kill him on sight!" the king ordered at once.
Those had originally been commands handed down by the God of Destruction himself.
So the king had no reason to hesitate.
After giving the order, he slowly sat back down on his throne and turned his gaze to the man standing below him.
"Your Majesty, what happened?" the man asked respectfully.
He looked to be around forty, of average height and slightly heavyset, with a small tuft of beard on his chin.
He was Renso, captain of the Sadala Defense Force.
The Sadala Defense Force was the elite Saiyan corps, and as its captain, Renso's strength was naturally exceptional.
"There's been a prison break," the king said grimly. "And from what I've heard, the man who helped Raditz escape is the same one who injured Frost."
"Those two again?" Renso said, frowning.
"One of them apparently knows Instant Transmission. He used it to take that Saiyan called Raditz straight out of the prison," the king said, his face growing even uglier.
The Grand Prison on Planet Sadala was supposed to be impenetrable.
Not even a fly was meant to get in or out.
And yet that man had used Instant Transmission to take a prisoner out with absurd ease.
"Instant Transmission? Could it be that special technique from Planet Yardrat? Or is he a disciple of Supreme Kai?" Renso said, visibly shaken. This was starting to look troublesome.
The king had summoned him to the palace earlier because of Frost's injury.
But before that conversation had even properly begun, the Grand Prison incident happened too.
"At the moment, I can't say for certain whether he's a disciple of Supreme Kai, but I doubt it," the king said with a heavy expression. "If he really were Supreme Kai's disciple, he would never do something like this."
"You're right, Your Majesty. I'll organize a worldwide search at once," Renso said, bowing.
"Go," the king said with a wave.
Renso bowed again, backed away three steps, then turned and left.
The moment he exited the palace, he quickly summoned his men and relayed the king's order.
