Chapter 93: SEED – Desert Tiger II
While Cagalli Yula Athha and Andrew Waltfeld were arguing, Kira quickly gulped down some water. He must have been overwhelmed by the mix of sauces—
No, more likely he had been burned by the spiciness. After all, that tigress Cagalli Yula Athha had dumped far too much chili sauce in.
Tolle Koenig simply followed Kira's example, putting half of each sauce on his kebab.
For a foodie, the choice of sauce wasn't an issue at all. In fact, wasn't it great to eat one kebab in three ways?
That way you got chili sauce flavor, yogurt sauce flavor, and even a mixed flavor in one go. Perfect!
Even if one of the flavors didn't suit you, at least you'd know it this time. You could just choose another next time, so why argue over something so trivial?
I'm just here to take a look at what Aisha looks like. Once I've seen her, I'll leave. Everything else has nothing to do with me.
Better to just sit quietly at the side and eat, and stay out of their discussion.
Looking at the pile of things Cagalli had bought, Andrew Waltfeld asked,
"Say, did you buy all this stuff to throw a party?"
Cagalli Yula Athha impatiently snapped back,
"You really are annoyingly chatty! What's it to you? And who even are you? Just helping yourself to a seat here without asking."
Tolle Koenig silently added in his heart: He's the Desert Tiger you've been itching to take revenge on.
At that moment, from a building across the street, a member of another resistance group launched an attack on Andrew Waltfeld.
A rocket-propelled grenade came streaking his way. Waltfeld instantly shoved everyone aside from the table and kicked it toward the rocket.
Whether by accident or on purpose, all the sauces spilled onto Cagalli Yula Athha without exception.
In the confusion, Kira Yamato suddenly pushed Tolle Koenig away, then instinctively grabbed hold of Cagalli and rolled with her under another table.
Holding Cagalli in his arms, Tolle cried out in silent anguish: Kira, you traitor!
Meanwhile, Kira and Waltfeld huddled behind another table, taking cover from the resistance fighters' attack.
When the attackers saw their rocket had failed, they rushed in with submachine guns, spraying bullets wildly at Waltfeld.
But this only drew all the fire their way. Tolle's side hardly faced any danger, save for a few ricochet fragments nearby.
Waltfeld pulled out a compact submachine gun of his own and began to return fire. Hidden ZAFT soldiers nearby also joined the fight.
In the middle of it, Waltfeld even called over to Kira, "You all right?"
Cagalli demanded, "What on earth is going on?!"
The resistance fighters shouted as they charged,
"Die, Coordinators! You sky-dwelling freaks!"
"For a pure blue world!" and other slogans.
Their words deeply wounded Kira's naïve heart. At the same time, Cagalli realized who they were. Still in Tolle's arms, she shouted,
"They're those Blue Cosmos lunatics!"
Waltfeld barked an order to his ZAFT soldiers,
"Doesn't matter—shoot them all. No need to take prisoners."
The fight quickly turned one-sided, with the resistance fighters being picked off one after another.
Just as the battle was about to end, Kira spotted someone lying in ambush to the side, ready to aim at Waltfeld.
He immediately grabbed a handgun off the ground, and instead of firing it, hurled it at the ambusher, striking him squarely.
Then he charged forward and delivered a flying kick. The man was knocked down, unconscious and completely unable to resist.
At that moment, Waltfeld noticed the ambusher, walked up to him, and without hesitation shot him in the head.
Kira stared blankly at Waltfeld, unable to understand why he had killed someone who could no longer fight back.
But as the last resistance fighters fell to ZAFT soldiers, the battle ended.
Seeing it was over, Kira let out a breath of relief and stopped dwelling on the man who had just been executed.
Cagalli pushed herself free from Tolle's arms, stood up, and confronted Kira,
"Do you even know how to use a gun? You actually threw it!"
As a ZAFT soldier came forward to report on the scene, removing his cap and sunglasses, Cagalli finally realized the man beside her was the Desert Tiger—Andrew Waltfeld.
Waltfeld stepped up to Kira and said,
"Thank you—you've helped me a great deal." Then, glancing at Cagalli, he added,
"This young lady is covered in chili sauce. If it gets in her eyes, she could go blind.
As a token of thanks for helping me, why don't I take you all back to my base? She can wash up, and I'll find her a change of clothes."
Cagalli scowled.
"Who wants to go to your base? We're leaving. Kira, Tolle, let's go!"
But Waltfeld grabbed Kira's arm.
"Hmm, maybe you don't want to, but my savior certainly must. Not showing even the slightest gratitude would be terribly rude.
If nothing else, let me at least give you a ride. I can take you home. How about that?"
Cagalli fell silent. She was afraid that if the Desert Tiger escorted them back, he might discover the location of the Desert Dawn's base.
Since no one replied, Waltfeld simply pulled Kira into the vehicle. Tolle climbed in of his own accord.
Left with no choice, Cagalli reluctantly followed, unable to abandon them and leave alone. Together, they headed toward the Desert Tiger's base.
The three remained silent during the ride, listening as Waltfeld described the region and its features.
Before long, he led them to his base—also his residence—a massive mansion.
Stepping out first and standing at the front door, Andrew Waltfeld turned and said to Kira, Cagalli, and Tolle,
"Come now, all three of you. Welcome to my home."
