Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Temporary Worker

On the seventh day, the villagers noticed something new on their street—a small, modest building had appeared almost overnight. Hanging above its entrance was a neat wooden sign with carefully painted characters: "Security Department Ooe Street Branch – Public Order Management Office."

At the doorway, Izumi sat confidently behind a simple wooden table. A large piece of parchment was propped up in front of her, emblazoned with a single bold word: "Recruitment."

The curious villagers gathered around, whispering among themselves. What was this? A branch office for managing order on their street? And why such an official-sounding name for such a humble place?

"Recruitment? Are they hiring?" a few bold souls muttered as they stepped forward, their curiosity piqued.

Several villagers approached Izumi, eager to find out what the job entailed. She listened patiently as they spoke, occasionally asking a few pointed questions. However, none of the candidates seemed to meet her expectations. They all appeared too timid, too conventional—too "proper" for her tastes.

Her sharp eyes scanned them critically, and she shook her head each time. This job required more than just politeness. It needed strength, courage, and a willingness to do what others wouldn't dare.

---

Later that afternoon, Izumi took to patrolling the street herself, determined to understand what kind of people she really needed.

As she rounded a corner and entered a narrow alley on a nearby street, her sharp gaze landed on a group of unruly hoodlums with wildly dyed hair. They were gathered in a tight circle, smoking and laughing raucously.

The moment they saw Izumi approaching, their eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Well, well, what do we have here? A pretty little sister walking into our territory!" one of the brash youths sneered, stepping forward and slapping her on the shoulder.

"Come on, little sister," another added with a wolfish grin, "come play with us! Big brother will show you all kinds of fun, hehehe..."

Izumi smiled slyly and followed them into the alley without hesitation.

The villagers who heard the faint screams that followed quickly looked away, unwilling to get involved.

"Ahhh! Help! Somebody! A Ninja is beating people!"

"Mom! I want to go home!"

Soon after, Izumi emerged from the alley dragging the hoodlums behind her, bound together with a sturdy rope.

---

The next morning, the villagers noticed a remarkable change. Izumi was no longer wandering the streets on patrol. Instead, she was seated comfortably inside her small office, sipping tea as the warm sunlight filtered through the paper windows.

Just then, a group of ragtag individuals, all wearing simple uniforms emblazoned with the words "Temporary Worker" on their arms, hurriedly gathered outside her office.

Izumi called out with a bright smile, "Everyone, come and take a look. I'd like to introduce some new faces to you."

The villagers leaned in, curious despite themselves.

Clearing her throat awkwardly, Izumi explained, "Due to a shortage of staff and the increasing difficulty of managing order here, I've recruited a few temporary workers to assist with Security Department duties. Everyone, get acquainted with them."

She paused, then added with a grin, "Oh wait, you all already know each other very well—too well, perhaps."

The crowd exchanged uneasy glances.

Just then, a voice rang out sharply from the back of the crowd, "Aren't they just a bunch of hoodlums? Can hoodlums really manage public order?"

Izumi raised a finger, her tone righteous and firm. "Hey now, don't judge people by their past mistakes. As the saying goes, a prodigal son's return is worth more than gold. Besides, we all live in Konoha Ninja Village. If these young men have turned over a new leaf, isn't that a good thing?"

The villagers hesitated, unsure how to respond.

Izumi clapped her hands enthusiastically. "Alright, everyone, don't worry. I will make sure they enforce the regulations strictly. There will be no tolerance for any illegal behavior."

A few villagers exchanged concerned looks but had no choice but to wait and see.

---

At first, the villagers thought these so-called "temporary workers" would cause nothing but trouble. After all, what could a group of reformed hoodlums possibly accomplish?

But to everyone's surprise, these young men worked diligently. They patrolled the streets, managed crowds, and kept the peace with a new sense of purpose.

A few skeptical villagers even found themselves grudgingly impressed. "That Uchiha girl's not so bad," they muttered. "She realized their strength and isn't afraid to use it."

However, some couldn't resist scoffing. "Using hoodlums to run the Security Department? What foolishness!"

Whenever these villagers passed Izumi, they would sneer and snort coldly, then walk away with their heads held high.

What annoyed them most was seeing Izumi sitting comfortably inside her office, leisurely drinking tea or pretending to write on papers. It made their blood boil for reasons they could not explain.

---

But the temporary workers soon revealed their true colors.

One of them, a tall youth with a crooked grin, shamelessly touched a beautiful female villager "accidentally" here and there as he passed.

Another went so far as to forcefully pinch the shapely buttocks of a young woman, causing her to glare daggers at him.

"What do you think you're doing?" she demanded.

The young man shrugged cheekily. "Isn't it normal to bump into someone while walking? You're just too sensitive."

More of them gathered around, teasing her. "Yeah, why so touchy?"

"Lonely? Come find me tonight," one of them whispered with a lewd grin.

The woman, seeing their numbers, could only grit her teeth and swallow her anger.

---

When an elderly woman tried to confront them, the situation escalated into farce.

The old lady collapsed onto the ground and cried out, "Help! The temporary workers are attacking me! Someone please help!"

In perfect unison, the temporary workers also threw themselves to the ground, screaming, "Help! The old woman is attacking us! She's shameless! She was looking for an old man and hit us when we found out!"

The old woman stood, furious, and shouted, "How dare you slander me! I am a respectable person!"

But the temporary workers lay sprawled on the ground, clutching their stomachs and wailing, "She got angry because we found out she was looking for an old man and hit us!"

Seeing a growing crowd gathering, the old woman tried to leave, but the workers blocked her way.

"You hit someone and want to run? You're too arrogant! Everyone, come see! This old woman hit someone and now wants to escape!"

"I didn't hit anyone!" the old woman shouted, trembling with frustration.

"If you didn't, why run? Don't think you're above the law. Come on, everyone, is this true?"

The crowd murmured uncertainly.

"I really didn't look for an old man, and I didn't hit anyone!" the old woman cried, stomping her feet in despair.

Despite her protests, the workers extorted money from her before finally letting her go.

---

Soon, the temporary workers stopped even pretending to be responsible.

They helped themselves to whatever looked tempting.

One fruit vendor confronted them, shouting, "Hey! What do you think you're doing?"

The temporary worker shrugged, "What's wrong with helping out? Can't I eat a little while managing order?"

The vendor's face darkened. "You're supposed to pay for that!"

The young man laughed mockingly and shoved the vendor aside.

"Old man, don't cause trouble," another worker sneered as they walked away.

The vendor groaned in pain, clutching his aching back. "You scoundrels! My old bones can't take this!"

He hurried to report the incident to higher authorities.

---

The higher-ups immediately sent messengers to summon Izumi.

She sat calmly in her office when they arrived, expecting a reprimand.

The situation was escalating fast, and the question was clear: how would Izumi handle the chaos she had unleashed by trusting these "temporary workers"?
