Chapter 8 - "Finish what I started"

The grey walls of the immense cavern soon consumed any remnant of the outside world from which he'd come. He was sure of one thing though, that he'd make it out. Lights painted the walls faintly and he couldn't help but watch as they slowly came to life with crude murals, depicting carnage and destruction. Depicting how they used to rule, so they'd never forget the hate they felt.

As he walked further and further in he saw a light moving in the darkness towards him, it stopped for a moment, pausing as it took in the comparatively small figure standing before it, finally it began moving faster and faster, growing larger until he felt something hit him in the chest. The cavern warped as he felt himself twist in the air, his head scrapped the ground as he flew from the maw of the mountain, landing in the puddle of blood that had been left behind from the things brethren. After a moment a green mass of flesh, blood and bone appeared before him. Its eyes were red, the vein on it enlarged skull pulsing with joy, its oversized jaw hung open. It tossed the lantern to the ground and grabbed Arthur by the hair, pulling him off his feet until he met its gaze. After a moment, the beast opened its mouth to say something, but stopped as it finally took notice of the body on the ground beside him. Joy turned to rage as it began to open its mouth even more, with the intent to consume Arthur.

Arthur smile and stuck his bent leg into its mouth and watched as it snapped down, but he didn't scream or yelp in pain, no the Valahi animal did. Its jaw had been snapped in two, its teeth either pouring out onto the ground or embedded in its gray gums. It dropped Arthur to the ground and turned to run into the cavern but Arthur was much faster. He leapt onto the back of its head and dug his hands into its eyes, ripping and tearing through first its flesh, then he punched through the hardened, chipped bone.

When he was finished the Valahi was slumped against the wall, its head twisted at an unnatural angle, blood pouring out from what used to be its face. It had been put down like the animal it was by Arthur.

Arthur looked back towards the entrance of cavern, a wistful look appearing on his handsome face.

'So this is what I've become?'

A dark look grew on his face, as silent anger filled his heart. He turned back and saw multiple lights growing larger and larger. It was more than likely the remaining forces of this raving band of animals. Eventually twenty or so of the beasts came running towards him, nothing but spite illuminating their feature. Some were men, some were women, not that it mattered to the uninjured man. He grabbed a rock with his and stood up to face them, running forward with a look of hate on his face.

He collided with the first one, and swung the rock forward, shattering its arm. It crumbled to the ground when another leapt over him, Arthur flattened his left hand and plunged it down the beasts throat, digging into its esophagus. He coldly ripped it out and threw it to the ground, he jumped forward, past the fool who lost his throat, and kicked the one with a broken arm hard enough in the skull to blow it open, revealing nothing but blood and organs. He stepped past the beast and attacked the next one who was in shock, throwing the rock with the strength of a ballistae and pierced three of the beasts in one fell swoop.

One of the Valahi let out a wail as it attempted to grab its disemboweled entrails, pushing them hopelessly into the tunnel forcibly struck through its body. After a moment it looked back, fear creeping into its eyes, stopped the pointless task it had assigned itself and then dashed forward, no longer caring about its own wellbeing. Arthur ducked underneath the vermin and swung around, kicking it into the gray stone walls of the hand-dug tunnel. Blood spattered out around the wall on contact and it slowly slid down.

'Five down, a lot more to go.'

He looked down and saw something reflecting light on the ground, the one he had just kicked into the wall had dropped a metal stick, it had a cylindrical handle with a large round button breaking the monotonous steel. He reached down and picked it up felt the cool steel in his hand, upon pressing the button it heated up, releasing an oppressive heat that climbed up the handle, turning it red hot. He looked up and saw some of the Valahi band retreating further into the cave, presumably to arm themselves. He swung the stick and felt the moisture in the air evaporate instantly, he'd just found himself a weapon as well. He dashed forward and stabbed the stick into one of the Valahi and ripped up, splitting it from the waist up, it collapsed around him. He continued forward cutting down two more before a couple of them snapped back to the reality of their situation, three of them began picking up large stones and throwing them; he felt the pressure of the blast before he saw it, as a rock collided with his skull and shattered. He put his free hand to his head, instinctively checking for damage that he should've known wouldn't be there, but those instincts don't naturally go away. He stepped towards them and another makeshift cannonball collided with his right shoulder, his body twisted back, but he didn't stop moving forward.

Eventually they ran out of rocks to throw, despair soaked the room as the inhuman man stepped forward, taking off one of the Valahi men's arms at the shoulder, he crumbled down and was instantly beheaded. The other two panicked and backed away, begging for their lives in the Valahi tongue but Arthur didn't care. He kicked one of the brutes knees, inverting it, it fell down towards Arthur and he brought the hilt of the weapon down on its head, shattering both the skull and the weapon on the floor. The blow sent a spiderweb of cracks into the floor, climbing up the wall. The shattered wall collapsed onto the last trio and he fell to the ground. Arthur tossed the broken weapon aside and stomped on his head, spraying the room in hot, crimson blood.

...

After finishing off another five of the Valahi just as brutally as he had killed the others. He continued further into the caves, he saw simple wooden structures and metallic support beams. After some time he walked into a large room, a throne room of sorts. Whatever that throne belonged to wasn't currently seated in it, as the Valahi Chieftain had slain the other seven of the fleeing members of his tribe. The Chief began walking towards Arthur, growing larger and larger until finally he stood in front of him, easily fifteen feet tall and covered in rippling muscles. His biceps were as thick as Arthur and extended down to his knees. His green skin was covered in scars and burns, and he was missing an eye. He raised his enormous hands and, surprisingly, began signing to Arthur.

"Why are you here? Why did you kill my men? Were you not afraid of the consequences?"

Arthur didn't sign back and continued watching.

"If you had even a single ounce of the dignity and honor of those you'd slain, you'd have met us outside our home. You'd have allowed us the dignity of a fair fight."

Arthur began signing back:

"Why would I allow even a single of you the slightest chance to escape what you brought upon yourself?"

The Chief smiled, revealing a mouth full of gold teeth:

"What we brought upon ourselves? We are both an endangered and enlightened species,, we used to conquer entire systems, we used to own the stars. You should feel honored to have even been given the opportunity to meet one of us, let alone a warband."

"There is nothing honorable nor enlightened about what and how you conquered."

A disgusted look peeled across Arthur's face:

"There was nothing honorable about how you killed, raped, stole, mutated and manipulated entire systems of people."

The disgusted look turned into a malevolent smile:

"To be honest though, it doesn't matter, I won't pretend to be here for something like honor, duty, or justice. I'm here for Gary."

A confused look appeared on the Chiefs face:

"Who is Gary?"

Arthur swung his right hand and buried it into the Chieftain's leg, burying it into the thick tissue and muscle of the large creature. His leg fell back and he fell to his knees, Arthur then delivered a blow to his stomach. The Chief crumbled forward, holding his stomach and gasping for air. His head was finally low enough for Arthur to grab and he did, he pulled him close and said:

"I thought you'd gone extinct, and I think its time I made sure of that."

The Chiefs eyebrow rose as Arthur placed a foot on his shoulder and began pulling. His foot began sinking into the flesh, snapping his collar bone, he kept pulling, snapping tendons, ripping flesh, and eventually tearing the overgrown beasts head off.

The Chiefs lifeless corpse hit the ground and Arthur looked up at the ceiling. Silence filled the emptied room and he took a deep breath. After a few moments he heard crying, he turned to the right and began walking towards the noise. he stopped in front of a large leather curtain, listening to the wailing, he pulled it to the side and saw a baby, lying on it's back and bawling. It's little fists were balled up as it punched at nothing. It was lying on furs pulled from the corpses of multiple animals.

'Should I kill it? ...No I have a better idea, an insult to that chieftains memory..'

He picked up the baby, wrapped it in the furs and began to leave the cave.
