Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I am now attending my cousin's wedding. I thought of coming here a little late but alas! I could not shake off my aunts. Their intense and passionate speech encouraged me to attend the wedding early on. I thought, as the bride's sister I absolutely have nothing to do with the wedding arrangements. Also, as a cherry on top of a pie my aunts told me my only job was to look after my cousin sister. But after coming here I understood how wrong I was. Though my only job was to look after my sister, there was a twist in it. I was not looking after the bride only, I'm now looking after all my sisters and also the kids in my house. This should not be a problem in normal situation, but my situation is different from others. I have a joint family and as a big family my father's side has a huge population. Its 40 people with my niece and nephew. That's only my father's side my mother's side is not counted yet also my other uncle's in-laws also has quite a few family member. With all together only close family member has the number over 250 people. To tell you my fathers are seven siblings (including my father). My mother has five siblings. So, to sum it up, I have a huge family.

And in this huge family there are a lot of kids, teenagers and so-called adult who behaves like kids. So my job is to take care of all these nutcases whom I can't stand at all. Most of the time I try to avoid full family gathering for fear to face them. Every single one of them comes with a special tag on top of them, which is trouble. Now not only I have to look after my sister but also these troublesome kids. I am actually looking after them for a few days as all of them came here few days earlier than the wedding. As we have many rituals as typical Hindu weddings.

And after all my suffering the wedding day finally arrived. I am going to be free. I am now crying from happiness. But I was happy too early as I did not know that a storm was coming, a storm that's going to turn my life upside down. Not only me, my family never imagined even in their dreams that something so absurd was going to happen and not one but two daughters going to get married today.

Few days forward...

The moment I took a step at home I was overwhelmed with rushed work. And today from morning I am running for others. My cute sisters are getting ready and I am carrying there stuff. Also my main priority is the bride. I am overseeing her progress also others. Everyone is busy getting ready for the wedding and I am running like a headless fly managing everything, so nothing goes wrong.

After a full day of hustling and bustling around finally everyone was ready. They finally went out to join the fun. Now it's only my sister getting ready. Finally, I am going to get ready now. After I got freshen up it was already dusk. The groom is here, and marriage rituals already started. After a while my brothers will come to fetch my sister for the main rituals.

But I'm facing a new problem now. After looking everywhere for my clothes I could not find them. Even after asking others there is nothing to wear for me. I am now genuinely speechless. Who is this person that stole my clothes. Should I just go and attend the wedding wearing a t-shirt?

I was thinking 'what should I do now?' when my sister asked me what I was doing.

Kajal (the bride), "what are you doing sitting there? Is something wrong?"

Seeing her so worried I singed. "I can't find my dress. What am I going to wear today? Sister, should I attend your wedding wearing shirt and pant?" I jokingly said.

I think I made her furious by saying so. At this moment a guy came carrying a big box. He was wearing the hotel's worker's uniform. He said someone told him to deliver it here for me. Which made us a little stunned but now is not the time to think about that. We thought one of our cousins was doing it intentionally. As time was tight, we brushed it off and I started to unbox. After opening the box, I became a little unsure seeing inside. Sister came to look after she saw my bewildered expression. After seeing the thing in the box, she was confused as well. Inside was a very beautiful dress but it looked too eye catching for me to were as a bride's mate. We can choose it to wear at reception. It was a perfect wear for a reception bride. It wasn't the traditional bright-red heavy worked bridal lehenga, but a soft peach colour delicate worked lehenga. It was gorgeous but we were sure that it is not mine. I won't choose something like this to wear during my sister's wedding. Just from the look of it, this is very expensive and I don't think we ordered this piece. But now is not the time to think about this. Our time is tight, I have to get ready quickly. So, even though I had a feeling that something was not right and that weird restlessness gave me a hunch, something very wrong was going to happen to me. But I choose to ignore that feeling, knowing fully well how accurate my intuition always is. From childhood to this day, I always avoided disadvantageous situation following my intuition. But today I choose to ignore this. I thought I was tired from all those running around and I was feeling anxious for fear that something might go wrong. But, later I understood why I should always follow my intuition.
