Charles slowly turned his head and looked at his mother.
Elena was sitting on the ground with her back against the side of the bed. She had wrapped her arms around her knees, and her once elegant appearance had become haggard. Her hair was slightly messy, and her face looked tired from the countless days of fear and crying.
Her eyes had lost most of their light.
They looked bleak and lifeless, but there was still something remaining inside them.
A small will to live.
Not for herself but for her son.
Elena remained silent for a moment as she watched Charles. Then she slowly raised her head.
"Charles.."
"Yes mother."
Charles immediately moved toward her and kneeled before her. His anger disappeared when he saw her exhausted expression.
Elena reached out and gently grabbed his shoulder.
"Do you want to live?"
Charles looked at her with a firm expression.
"Of course mother..Don't worry,I will make sure to get us alive."
Elena shook her head slowly.
