The group finally remembered Haha, who had been beaten into a pig-headed state.

If she were awake right now, no one knew whether she would cry or laugh.

Seizing this moment, Sylvester immediately said, "In short, Lingsha and I once used that [Doctors of Chaos's Prescription Machine] to successfully create a pill that erases memories."

"What was it used for?" Jing Yuan pressed.

His intuition told him that this thing was the key to the peculiar relationship between Sylvester and Lingsha.

Sylvester shut him down bluntly. "That doesn't matter."

"The key point is, we can use the same method to make Haha lose her memory of tonight's banquet!"

As he spoke, he folded his arms, sounding faintly dissatisfied. "The reason I call it a bottom-tier strategy is because this method has already been used once. There's no creativity to speak of."

The moment those words fell, Lingsha, Yukong, and the others widened their eyes slightly.

This really was a good solution. Although the gains were far smaller than the middle strategy, it altered the situation the least.

In other words, it was the most stable approach.

As for creativity or not—this wasn't some storybook where a trick could only be used once in a lifetime.

If it worked, then it was a good plan.

After a brief consideration, Jing Yuan accepted the suggestion. "Shopkeeper Sylvester's lower strategy is, in truth, the upper strategy."

"I'll go retrieve the Curio right now." Without another word, Lingsha hurried off toward the Alchemy Commission.

It didn't take long before she returned with the Curio.

But when she stepped through the door, she gave everyone a small shock.

Because Lingsha had brought someone else with her.

This was the sort of matter where the fewer people who knew, the better—why was Lingsha being so careless?

Jing Yuan greeted the newcomer. "It's already late. The Healer Dragon Lady hasn't turned in yet?"

Bailu grinned smugly. "Hehe, it's way too early for me to sleep. Besides, if I went to bed early, how would I catch Sister Lingsha using that Curio again?"

She patted her small chest confidently. "I'm the best at operating that machine, you know."

As she spoke, something odd seemed to catch her eye.

"Wow! How did this person end up this badly?!"

Before she could look much longer, Haha—beaten so badly even Aha wouldn't recognize her—entered Bailu's field of vision.

No need to ask. This was clearly her target patient.

Stepping past the others, Bailu circled Haha two or three times, then scratched her little head, confusion written all over her face.

"Who beat her up like this? Other than her head, her whole body's perfectly fine—not a single wound."

"It's like it was done on purpose."

She lifted her head and looked at Lingsha—the one who had stubbornly dragged her here—her eyes full of suspicion.

"Sister Lingsha, this isn't some surprise test of my medical skills, is it?"

If it was, that would be going way too far.

Tsk tsk. Getting beaten like this must hurt terribly.

Lingsha shook her head solemnly. "Of course not. Don't ask questions, and don't tell anyone about what happened today."

After giving that warning, her long-honed instinct for dealing with troublesome children kicked in.

She raised an eyebrow and said, with a hint of provocation, "But you were the one who said you could heal her injuries quickly. That's why I brought you. Don't tell me you've lost confidence now?"

"How could I!" Bailu took the bait instantly, tossing all doubts out of her head. "I'll heal her right now!"

She reached out and lifted Haha's eyelids. For a moment, the two locked eyes.

Golden light bloomed within Bailu's pupils. Her little face tightened, all traces of playfulness gone.

The power of words gathered in her mouth, and she softly spoke three words: "Don't die."

Then, despite no visible flow of energy, Haha's swollen face began to recover at a speed visible to the naked eye.

In just a few seconds, Haha's cheeks were restored to their original state, smooth and supple once more.

"S–so, how about that!" Bailu puffed out her small chest proudly.

"That's wonderful. The Healer Dragon Lady's medical skill truly is unmatched under heaven!"

Jing Yuan did not stint on praise, because he immediately understood why Lingsha had brought Bailu along.

This way, with the auxiliary memory-erasing pill, when Haha woke tomorrow, everything would be foolproof.

They could skip fabricating lies like "she got drunk and was attacked on the street."

When she woke up, they only needed to say she blacked out from drinking. A few casual words would smooth it over, with no inconsistencies at all.

Eh? Why does this suddenly feel like constructing a locked-room mystery or an alibi in a suspense drama?

While he was mentally piecing together the entire aftermath plan, Bailu had already hopped onto a chair, her little legs swinging in the air, and started operating the computer paired with the [Doctors of Chaos's Prescription Machine].

She said brightly, "So? What kind of pill do you want?"

Beside her, Sylvester glanced at the time on the Jade Abacus. "Erase the memories from the past two hours. Not too much."

Any formula produced by this machine was bound to come with side effects. It was better not to make anything too powerful.

Otherwise, if Haha ended up with complications from taking it, that would truly be undeserved calamity.

"Okay, that's super easy."

Bailu worked the controls, then followed the prompts and fed the required medicinal ingredients into the machine.

Before long, she produced a jade-green pill that was still steaming.

"All done! The effect is perfect—it erases memories from the last two hours. But as for the side effect…"

She turned back to the crowd clustered tightly around her and said a little sheepishly, "Uh, for one day, she'll only be able to move by walking on her hands."

"Is… is that a problem?" Bailu asked uncertainly.

Jing Yuan pressed a hand to his forehead. "It's a huge problem."

Walking on one's hands? There was no way Haha wouldn't notice that.

Either she'd been force-fed some strange pill, or she'd been hit by some bizarre memetic virus.

In any case, she would definitely realize something weird had happened—unless she were an idiot.

And unfortunately, Haha was definitely not an idiot.

"Um, could you give that one to me?" Guinaifen raised her hand timidly.

That pill would actually be pretty useful to her.

After a moment's thought, Jing Yuan handed the pill to her.

"Miss Guinaifen, I hope today's events will not be spread."

The unspoken meaning was clear—this pill was her hush money.

"Mhm mhm mhm, I understand. Of course I understand."

Guinaifen nodded repeatedly, happily playing with the pill in her hand.

Then she looked at her good friend, whom she'd known for less than a day, and felt a twinge of guilt.

Does this count as profiting from a friend's misfortune?

Hmm… then I'll give her half of tomorrow's performance earnings.

After another round of operations, Bailu took out a sapphire-blue pill from the machine.

"This one has very minor side effects. She'll just become a chatterbox for a short while, but she'll forget all memories from the past day."

"That won't do." Sylvester shook his head.

Haha had only been born for a single day. If she ate that, wouldn't she forget even who she was?

She'd wake up tomorrow and turn into an idiot on the spot—opening her mouth and going "ah-ba ah-ba," wouldn't be surprising at all.
