DoomMarine56:
No one wants to read about your lame self insert.
Avip:
I mean… first of all "Ouch!".
Second, Ash has SI elements, yes. But I think Marcus Carvalho from my other story Anthro State VS Isekai Hero is way more an SI than Ash. Ash is just a tough asshole with the heart of gold.
Freedomringer:
Is there nothing sacred?! Probably not. Though now I'm even wondering if Salem even exists. Also did Ash accidently use Emerald to bet on himself for his matches? Without realizing it? Because I think he did.
Avip:
People guessing almosting hitting the target… also Salem is not the same.
fictionelement777:
Qrow standing on business. Ten toes down. Hope Bliess doesn't find out about his deal. LOL!
nightcore4lyfe:
I like this Qrow better than canon Qrow.
Avip:
I was so happy most of you liked the new Qrow.
[#*#*# Start of Chapter #*#*#]
"This is a joke, right?" Qrow growls, frustrated. "Or are you the fucking joke who can't handle basic weapon maintenance?"
I had failed miserably on the forge.
To make it worse, it was less than five minutes into the lesson and now I'm getting a lecture from Qrow while the entire class watches.
"Wait, I'm not that bad." I confront. "I know how to do basic maintenance on my axe, but anything to do with the firearm components and its mechashift functions? I usually just pay someone."
"You're all strength and no brains, huh?" Qrow asks, more surprised than pissed. "The Brother Gods really said, 'fuck balance, let's min-max that mother fucker.'"
"He-he." I awkwardly laugh at being roasted in front of everyone. "I didn't exactly get a formal education, you know..."
Qrow's gaze softens at that statement.
"Incentive program, right?" The teacher asks.
I nod as he grunts in frustration.
"Listen, kid. I didn't mean to be an ass," he grumbles apologetically, rubbing his neck. "But don't think this gets you a free pass to be a dumbass. Your life may have been shitty, but you'll get some extra time and guidance to catch up with the other kids."
"I can do that." I say feeling hopeful.
"Good. I'm assigning you a tutor." Qrow turns to the class, his voice booming. "Now I just need someone who knows their way around weapons and Dust."
The room falls silent as Qrow's gaze sweeps the room. When he finally locks on someone, he chuckles maniacally before speaking:
"Looks like I'll be hitting two Nevermores with one grenade." Qrow says, turning to me and whispering conspiratorially. "What do you say about having the best tutor you could get?"
"That…" I start weary. "That seems too good to be true," I respond cautiously.
"Ha! You're not as dumb as you look," he barks, laughing, before continuing to whisper. "I get you the best weapon tutor, and you do me a solid. What do you think?"
"If it's not about money or committing a crime, I'm in." I answer flatly.
"I knew I'd like you." He says joyfully, punching my ribs with his prosthetic arm.
I wince, more surprised than in pain, as Qrow raises his voice.
"Hey, Sunshine!" He yells in the closed room. "Gonna cash in that favor you owe me."
My stomach plummets the second I follow Qrow's gaze.
'Oh no,' I mouth silently in despair. 'No, no, no…'
Ruby's already storming over, her boots clicking sharp against the floor. She stops in front of Qrow, arms crossed, a scowl deep enough to carve ice.
"Uncle Qrow, I told you not to call me that," she hisses, voice low but venomous.
"Yeah, yeah. And I told you I don't give a damn," Qrow just grins, unfazed, as he pinches Ruby's left cheek with his regular hand. "My precious glitterbug."
The genius Huntress pushes her uncle away and gives me a glare that could melt steel before turning back to her uncle.
"What do you want?" she asks, crossing her arms like a spoiled teen. "I'm a super important team leader now, so don't ask much of me."
"Oh, baby girl." Qrow starts chuckling menacingly. "I just need you to tutor this wonderful young man." He finishes, putting his prosthetic hand on my shoulder.
"Excuse me?" Ruby snaps, her head whipping toward me, eyes wide.
"You heard me," Qrow continues, looking at us both. "Ruby, you're teaching Ash how to maintain that hunk of metal he calls a weapon. Ash, you're helping Ruby making friends."
"What?" Ruby and I ask in unison.
"Shut it." Qrow cuts us both off with a sharp wave of his prosthetic. "My decision is final."
"Making friends?" Ruby squawks, eyes wide in horror. "With this filth manwhore?"
"This edge lord?" I mutter, lost.
"Yeah." Qrow's grin turns downright sadistic. "Now you both shut up and stop wasting my time."
Ruby and I open our mouths, ready to argue about his decision.
"Rule number three, kids," Qrow warns in a cold tone. "Or do you both want to keep company with the inbred douche in the infirmary?"
We close our mouths and look down in defeat as the teacher laughs victoriously.

The second I step into the dorm, my shoulders sag like I've been carrying a boulder up a mountain. My brain is fried from Ruby's death glares, her sugar-coated insults wrapped in that sickeningly fake sweet voice, the way she'd lean in just to whisper, 'Do you even know what a screwdriver is?' as if I were some kind of retarded caveman. Every word of her drips with that season 1 Schnee level of condescension.
'But now I can take a deep breath, and relax,' I think, entering my dorm room.
But, as destiny absolutely hates my guts, I don't even make it two steps before a vice grip locks around my right bicep.
"Finally," Bleiss purs, yanking me toward her. Her black nails dig into my skin through the fabric of my shirt. "We can pick up where we left off last night."
My body tenses. Not because I don't want to. Hell, after that class, I could use a fun in the sack with my crazy but hot girlfriend.
But before I can answer, another hand slams onto my left arm.
"I have a better idea. We should review this semester's material," Adam says, his voice firm but not unkind. His blue eyes flick between me and Bleiss. "Ash didn't have the same foundation as the rest of us in the realm of formal education. If you're serious about being a Huntsman, you need to catch up."
"Oh, go graze a meadow, you cunt shunt." Bleiss's grip tightens, her lips curling into a snarl. "This doesn't concern you."
Adam doesn't flinch and promptly answers Bleiss.
"Actually, it does," he says calmly. "As Ash's partner, I'm responsible for making sure he's prepared. That includes academics, Miss Schnee."
"Oh! I know you didn't just call me Miss Schnee," Bleiss laughs sharply. "That partner thing is just some stupid school bullshit. Besides…" She drags her nails down my arm, slow, deliberate. "He's mine."
Something dark flickers in Adam's gaze, but his voice stays level.
"This isn't about possession. It's about his future. If you truly care for him, you will let him study."
Bleiss's whip, Eisendorn, flicks out from her hip in a blur, the black metal coiling around Adam's wrist.
"How dare you!" Bleiss says, her voice trembling with more raw emotion than usual. "Ash is everything for me, EVERYTHING!"
I shove myself between them before Bleiss's whip can tighten another inch.
"Enough!" My voice catches both their attention. "It's the first fucking day of school. I don't even know how bad I am in regular classes, yet."
"It wouldn't hurt to review with me," Adam's voice softens, but his jaw stays set. "Just in case."
"Oh, please," Bleiss scoffs, yanking Eisendorn back with a metallic hiss. "Why should you and not me be teaching him?"
"Because I'm a straight-A student," Adam says calmly.
"Big whoop," Bleiss laughs. "I had the best education money could buy. Private tutors, elite prep schools-."
"Then prove it, Miss Schnee." Adam's eyes gleam, challenging flickering in his irises. "Let us both take the same mock exam online, right now. Highest score teaches Ash."
"Oooh… it's on, cowboy." Bleiss's nostrils flare. She whips out her scroll, fingers flying over the screen. "But when I win, you're staying the hell out of our business."
"And if I win, you'll stop treating Ash like your personal chew toy," Adam smirks, pulling out his own device.
I stare as both sit down with their scrolls in hand, taking the test.
Relief and dread take hold of me as they finally quiet down, but Adam's 'friendship' is starting to get a little too sus for me.
"Sooo," draws Emerald, who I almost forgot was also a member of this team. "Wanna get some food while they have this nerdout?"
"Yeah," I answer, nodding. "I really don't want to stay in the room right now."

Emerald and I went to check out what Beacon had to offer for dinner.
Quickly we found out that we could hit the cafeteria and grab something healthier and more elaborate to eat, or head to the courtyard where, strangely enough, a bunch of food trucks were parked.
"Why would they have those?" I ask, stunned.
"I guess rich assholes like street food too," Emerald states, shrugging.
"That… actually makes sense."
The courtyard's empty, so we've got the pick of the lot. Food trucks line the pavement, their neon signs flickering: tacos, ramen, burgers and some fancy-ass crepe stand I'm gonna keep far away from.
I finally settle and point at the burger truck.
"Let's go with the classics."
"You mean basic as hell, but fine," Emerald snorts, shaking her head. "I'll humor you."
We step up to the counter. Emerald orders a plain cheeseburger and water, because of course she survives on air and spite. As for myself, I go for the full spread: three bacon cheeseburgers, extra crispy, large fries, and a large soda.
We grab a table under a flickering string light. The metal chair groans under me as I unpack my feast. Emerald watches, unimpressed, as I take a long swig of soda.
When I'm in the middle of a gulp, the green-haired bitch drops it.
"So, you top Adam, or is it the other way around?"
PUFF!
The soda explodes out of my mouth, spraying half the table. I choke, slamming the cup down.
"What the fuck?"
"Oh, come on." Emerald leans back, grinning like a damn hyena. "You two are way too cozy. All that 'bro' energy? Please."
"First of all, no." I wipe my mouth, glaring. "Second, don't say stuff like that next to Bleiss."
"Oooh," she coos sarcastically. "Are you afraid of your goth slut?"
"Bitch, I'm peachy." I state, picking up a burger. "You are the one getting cut, saying this kind of bullshit."
Realizing the danger Emerald's eyes widen in shock.
"Whatever," she says, trying to keep her cool between bites. "Not like I'm scared of her or anything."
I set my drink down, leveling my gaze at Emerald.
"Okay, what's your real problem with Bleiss?"
Emerald's eyebrows shoot up.
"Seriously? She's a Schnee. Isn't that enough?"
"Fair point," I concede, taking a bite of my burger. I chew, swallow, and press on. "But sometimes it feels too personal. Like you've got some extra beef with her."
Emerald's face reddens. She picks at her fries, avoiding my eyes.
"I-it's nothing, okay?" she stammers shyly.
Noticing how uncomfortable she is, I raise my hands, palms out.
"Hey, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. I'm just trying to do my job as team leader. After all we're a fucking mess."
Emerald's shoulders tense. She opens her mouth, then snaps it shut, shaking her head.
"It's just stupid, okay?" She says hastily. "Can you drop it?"
"Fine," I say, grabbing another burger. "But when you're ready to talk, I'm already ready to listen."
Emerald rolls her eyes, but her lips twitch into a small smile.
"Thanks, Ash," she whispers, relaxed. "Even though you don't remember me-."
"Even though I don't what?" I ask, cutting her off. "Didn't get the last part."
Emerald's eyes go way wide as her face flushes in embarrassment.
"I s-said n-nothing." She stammers, trying to avoid the subject.
I frown, staring at the green-haired girl, trying to get the truth out of her.
"You said I didn't do something." I insist, curious about the matter.
"Just forget it, you asshole," she says, trying to deflect, looking down.
Okay, now 'I know' I have a tsundere Emerald on my team.
What other cliché do I have to deal with in this RWBY-verse? Is Nora a spy for Salem? Is Ren a girl passing as a femboy? Is Penny a giant robot?
"Ok, forget about it." I sigh tiredly before continuing. "Keep your secrets, Emerald."
Her shoulders relax as the tension melts away from her body.
"Just know that you can tell me anything." I say, reaching for the last burger. "I promise I won't get mad, and if I'm to blame, I will try to fix my mistakes."
Emerald's cheeks flush pink, and she mutters a silent, 'Thanks,' avoiding my gaze.
"I think…" She starts, picking at her fries, her voice softening. "I think you'll be a good leader, Ash. It's just, the team's that is a mess from the start, that is not your fault."
I laugh, a sharp bark that echoes through the courtyard.
"You're telling me. We've got a fucking faunus peace activist, a Schnee rebel, and a thief with a chip on her shoulder." I tick them off on my fingers, grinning. "And then there's me, the giant asshole trying to keep everyone in line."
Emerald's lips twitch into a smirk.
"You're not so bad, Ash." She admits, stealing a fry from my plate. "You are at most a big asshole, not giant."
"Hey!" I snap at the food theft.
"At least you try to talk and understand people. That's more than most people bother to do." She says, eating my fries.
I swat Emerald's hand away as she reaches for another fry.
"Seriously, don't steal my food."
She grins, licking salt from her fingers.
"Oh, come on." She groans. "I bet you'd let Bleiss do it."
"Yeah, and Bleiss also wants to suck my dick." I say flatly.
Emerald's grin drops, her face twisting in disgust.
"Ew!" She cries out.
"You brought it up." I shrug, unapologetic. "Dont touch my food."
[#] [#] [#]
"That was a good light dinner." I sigh, patting my stomach as we walk back to the dorm.
"Light?" Emerald scoffs. "You chowed down practically a whole cow at lunch. How did you fit three burgers, fries, and a monster burrito for dinner?"
I laugh, shrugging off her concern.
"I need the protein, Emerald." I try to explain. "Gotta build muscle if I want to-." But I'm cut by a shout.
"Halt!" An imperious masculine voice demands.
The command echoes through the hallway, abrupt and stern. Emerald and I both turn, finding ourselves face-to-face with a blond student. His blue eyes are sharp, and his white armor gleams under the hallway lights.
"Can I help you?" I ask, keeping my tone casual despite the tension rolling off him.
His gaze flickers between Emerald and me, his lips pressed into a thin line.
"Are you the knave named Ash Williams?" He says, pointing right at me.
I remain silent for a few moments, and the atmosphere in the hallway gets taut.
Then, after what feels like an eternity, I whisper to Emerald.
"What's a knave?"
"I don't know," Emerald deadpans. "Pretty sure he's trying to offend you, though."
I turn back, sizing up the blond. He's not as tall as me, but his broad shoulders and powerful muscles, evident even under his armor, make him an intimidating figure. He stands rigid, chin held high, like some kinda noble knight addressing a royal court.
"I'm Ash Williams," I say, "Who are you and the fuck is a knave?"
His eyes narrow, but his voice remains steady, arrogant even.
"I am the firstborn son and rightful heir to the most honored lineage in al Remnant, scion of the ancient royal bloodline, born of the conquering king who once united Vale under a single banner."
"That doesn't-." I try to talk, but he cuts me off, still spitting titles.
"I am the sworn defender of the weak, bearer of the legacy of heroes. By oath and by birthright, I stand as the rightful sword of Vale's citizens, anointed by destiny and tempered by duty."
"Still doesn't-" I try once again, only for him to cut me off again.
"Remember this moment, fell knave, because I am Jaune Romée Arc, and know that the Arc name stands as Vale's greatest protectors."
Emerald snorts, unimpressed, as my jaw drops open.
'What the fuck happened with Jaune?'
