Chapter 13 - Days of operations

zeta opens the door to her apartment showing Edgar, inside Edgar's first response was to reach for the light switch and flip it.

Edgar: well this is disappointing. You'd think a base of operations would either have bullets and guns drawn about the apartment or at the flip of a switch. It turns into a technologically advanced facility or an elevator of leading to a technologically advanced facility.

Saying those words she reaches into her coat pocket and pulls out glass's case from them. She puts on a pair of glasses and starts looking around.

Instinct: that's cuz it's a bedroom but having a secret base does sound awesome.

Zeta: do we even need one? I don't even think it's in our budget.

Edgar: in your line of work, it's important to have something like that to keep your other life separate from your secret life.

She said with a preachy tone like giving a lecture on something very important.

Logic: actually we never got around to working on it but we do have a secret base of operation.

The other two and Edgar looked at logic.

Zeta: we do?

Logic: you don't remember because we got cut short during a little conversation when Marin showed up, but I was explaining that I had made arrangements for all of the assets and machines in the facility. Do we move to another place so that motor City doesn't have access to him? I had used some of the funds from the motor City account they had set aside for the project to buy a new building and I just posted a billion online to have the things moved out.

The other three nodded along is if understanding the situation logic was explaining.

Logic: effectively the original plan was to go to the facility and build our base and live while figuring out our life.

Edgar: I see then it's a good thing. Week coincidentally found each other when we did.

Zeta: actually we were looking for you. I have reason to suspect that the high gear AI wanted us to find you.

Trying those words Edgar scratched her head. Not sure what he could possibly want.

Edgar: he did Diddy look at that loan I want. He usually keeps to himself unless he's off causing mischief.

Zeta: I'm actually not quite sure. I think it has something to do with the fact that he tried to sync up with the three of us the other day.

Edgar shook her head.

Edgar: I'm not. It can't be something that simple besides you. Don't remember it but when you were younger you used to be synced up with him 24/7 so around the same time he started becoming all a big protective Big brother on you. Anything else.

Logic: well other than that we've been having an issue with unloading energy. Zeta is taking on more energy than she can get rid of. It's not like motor city's throwing out bad guys every other day of the week so don't bring the energy is becoming more and more of a problem.

Hearing that Edgar immediately reached for for zeta's left arm. The gear Riser released itself from storage and she could see it. The geiger counter was just barely edging on the green about to touch the red.

Edgar: how long has it been like that.

She's had the most serious tone she's ever mustered.

Logic: it was actually a lot lower this morning and we managed to get it down even further when a washing machine. Monster attacked the city earlier but then these two idiots decided to have nachos for lunch. The amount of calories shot them past what it was.

Edgar gave a serious glare at logic.

Edgar: why haven't you tried acquiring a generator to unload some of the energy.

Logic: I ran the simulation when all current generators in the market. The specs they have do not come even close to reading a good enough portion of energy. Plus, we'd have to figure out a way to burn the energy off the generator to recharge it again.

Edgar rubbed her chin in a serious thought.

Edgar: logic when was the last time you did a firmware update.

Logic: not since I was implanted into the body along with instinct. Why?

Edgar: because if you are functioning right you would have remembered that there is industrial generator along with a small reactor battery capable of storing her excess energy in it among the items that should have been taken from the lab.

Logic: I have considered it but even with a generator on the side to siphon off the amount of time it would take to put together, the generator is not negligible.

Edgar: and now I'm understanding why the AI for high gear is be asking for me to be sought out. Logic isn't acting optimized. She knew the fact that I was alive. She didn't consider the possibility of the fact that I have a PhD and robotics and engineering and have the skills to prepare the generator fast enough to resolve the issue.

Logic paused at this. Revelation.

Instinct: that doesn't prove anything. It would still take a bunch of people in a lot of time to build a generator that big.

Edgar: under normal circumstances sure, but when you take into consideration that one violate clearly verifies, I built the generator original in a week with only a few drones. The answer should have been very obvious that you had access to the motor City files which I'm suspecting she did. Furthermore, I've been talking to the two of you for a while now and she hasn't pointed out nor questioned the fact that I'm able to do such.

Logic did not even bother to react to that one?

Logic: it's those glasses. They've clearly got a text scan that allows you to tap into our mental channel, since the biofield is a type of technical field that could be scanned, I figured most people in this room would be able to figure that out by now.

Instinct: I didn't figure that out. I didn't even find it strange she was talking to us.

Logic: okay, minus him he wasn't classifiable as an outlier.

Edgar: logic you really need to realize how serious this problem is. We put you in there to make sure that zeta doesn't decide to send us all to Kingdom come. The fact that you are firmware is outdated means that your logic systems can make flawed assumptions and if those assumptions lead to thousands of people's deaths, that's something that's going to weigh on zeta in the future.

Everyone paused direct what she said sink in not sure how to react. Not the possibility that there's a flaw in the system they have going.

Logic: so what can I do? I don't have any firmware updates.

Edgar clicked her tongue at that.

Edgar: I told that intern to set up the automatic firmware system. Look for right now. Figure something out but we need to find the generator and get it up and running before becomes ground zero.

Logic: it's at the base over in the slums.

Edgar: did you mean to tell me you left items were even a box of that stuff is worth more than trillions of dollars and there's more than a thousand boxes. Some random car garage out in the middle of the slums where every single person is just looking for an opportunity to get rich.

Logic: it's fine. I put a security garden on payroll and set up a chart system on the inside of the building.

Edgar: why the security guard if you have the system.

Logic: to warn people that it's you to kill if they enter the building. That way if someone survives tries to come back with the lawyer, we have a solid defense.
