Chapter 111: Mikoto Uchiha is Pregnant
Konoha Hospital.
Hoshikawa sat in Nonou Yakushi's office, enjoying the air conditioning and yawning. Before this, he had always been a surgical assistant, primarily responsible for anesthesia and hemostasis. That changed half a month ago when his medical ninjutsu skills leveled up. More specifically, he had successfully acquired the B-rank trait, Medical Special Jōnin.
With Nonou's special permission, he tried his hand at being the lead surgeon on two occasions, and both were a huge success. So, given the scarcity of medical ninjas, Hoshikawa was officially promoted. He no longer worked alongside Nonou; he was now the lead surgeon on his own. But when there were no surgeries, it got a bit boring.
[B-rank Trait: Medical Special Jōnin]
[Activation Condition: Mastery of nine medical ninjutsu traits.]
[Effect: All medical ninjutsu effects are increased by 100%.]
[Note: Learn and master more medical ninjutsu to evolve into the A-rank trait, Medical Jōnin.]
Although the B-rank trait Medical Special Jōnin took a lot of time, the effect made it all worthwhile. The previous C-rank trait Medical Chūnin increased medical ninjutsu effects by 50%; this one increased them by a whopping 100%. What did that mean?
If two people used the same medical ninjutsu with the same amount of chakra, Hoshikawa 's would be even stronger than Tsunade's. Nonou Yakushi was so impressed by this incredible progress that she made him the youngest head surgeon in Konoha Hospital's history.
The evolution path for the B-rank trait Medical Special Jōnin was a bit strange. "Learn and master more medical ninjutsu." Did that mean he had to master every medical ninjutsu out there?
While Hoshikawa was deep in thought, he heard a knock on the door. He looked up and saw a young woman in a nurse's uniform.
"Hoshikawa , there's a surgery for you to perform," she said.
"Who is the patient? What's their condition?" Hoshikawa asked, getting up and walking toward her.
"The patient is Kakashi Hatake," the young woman replied. "He got struck by lightning while practicing a Lightning Style ninjutsu."
"Huh?" Hoshikawa was surprised.
Struck by lightning, really?
Wait a minute.
Is he trying to create the Chidori?
"Hoshikawa ? What are you doing here?" Asuma Sarutobi asked, surprised to see him standing at the operating room door.
"What's with that expression?" Hoshikawa asked, raising an eyebrow. "Why can't I be here?"
"You're already performing surgeries on your own?" Asuma asked, his eyes wide. He knew Hoshikawa was a lead surgeon because their uniform was different and very distinctive. He knew Hoshikawa was an intern at Konoha Hospital, but a lead surgeon? If he remembered correctly, only Special Jōnin and Jōnin could be lead surgeons.
This is insane!
Hoshikawa rarely used medical ninjutsu while they were training together, so Asuma knew his skills were good but didn't know how good. Now he did, and he almost wished he didn't. Had the gap between them really grown this much without him even realizing it?
"I'm going to perform Kakashi's surgery now. We can talk later," Hoshikawa said with a smile, walking into the operating room.
Asuma's mouth twitched. He felt like he was in a genjutsu.
Hoshikawa looked up and saw Kakashi Hatake on the operating table. He was unconscious, and his exposed skin was scorched black and visibly swollen.
"Hoshikawa , here are the detailed diagnostic results," the medical chūnin assigned as his assistant said, handing him a file.
Hoshikawa took it and started reading. There were two main problems: skin burns and nerve damage.
"Let's begin the surgery," Hoshikawa said, putting the file down. "You get the Blood Stanching Technique ready."
He walked over to Kakashi, made a hand sign, and extended his hands. A light green chakra erupted from his right hand, quickly changing shape to form a blade. This was the A-rank medical ninjutsu, Chakra Scalpel. After learning the Mystical Palm Technique from Nonou, he had spent three months mastering the Chakra Scalpel.
Hoshikawa slowly cut away Kakashi's necrotic skin. The moment the blood welled up, his assistant quickly used the Blood Stanching Technique. Soon, the burned skin was completely new. Hoshikawa exhaled. Next was the more complex nervous system. This time, he added the Mystical Palm Technique.
With everyone's cooperation, it took an hour to restore his nervous system.
"Take him to a hospital room," Hoshikawa said, removing his gloves and mask.
"Yes," they said in unison.
Although the system had given Hoshikawa the trait Medical Special Jōnin, they already treated him like a Medical Jōnin. After all, what kind of Medical Special Jōnin could master such high-difficulty medical ninjutsu like the Mystical Palm Technique and the Chakra Scalpel? In theory, Hoshikawa had already reached the upper limit of ordinary medical ninjas. All he had left to learn were the Creation Rebirth and the Strength of a Hundred Seal.
"How is he?" Asuma rushed over. He and Kakashi were good friends, so he was very worried.
"The surgery was a great success. He's now a girl," Hoshikawa said with a serious expression.
"???" Asuma was completely baffled.
"Just kidding." Hoshikawa laughed. "He's fine. He should recover after about a week of rest."
"That's a relief," Asuma said, letting out a sigh.
"Let's talk in the hospital room," Hoshikawa said, pointing to Kakashi, who was being wheeled out.
"Okay," Asuma said, quickly following.
They soon arrived at the hospital room. Kakashi was still unconscious, having just finished surgery.
"When did you start doing surgeries on your own?" Asuma asked curiously.
"Half a month ago," Hoshikawa said casually. "The head of the hospital said I was ready, so I went for it. It turns out I'm pretty good."
What the hell are you saying? Asuma subconsciously clenched his fists. This was too infuriating! But he couldn't beat Hoshikawa , so all he could do was be angry.
"How did Kakashi get struck by lightning?" Hoshikawa skillfully changed the subject.
"He actively tried to draw the lightning, but he wasn't careful and drew too much," Asuma said, pausing for a moment. "This is your fault."
"My fault?" Hoshikawa asked, confused.
"After you mastered the Rasengan, Kakashi wanted to create a jutsu that could rival it, so he started thinking about Lightning Style," Asuma explained, rubbing his chin. "Shisui also motivated him." Shisui was younger than him but had already created Uchiha-Style: Phoenix Fire Dance and Uchiha-Style: Gale Blade. This was undoubtedly a blow to Kakashi, who considered his talent to be second only to Hoshikawa .
"What did he come up with?" Hoshikawa asked, looking at the unconscious Kakashi.
"He has a little idea," Asuma said, clearing his throat. "More accurately, he wants to mimic the Rasengan and gather lightning in his hand."
Hoshikawa 's expression changed slightly. After Asuma's reminder, he realized that the Chidori was indeed somewhat similar to the Rasengan. Perhaps in the original series, Kakashi developed the Chidori after seeing Minato's Rasengan. It's worth noting that the Chidori was also known as the Lightning Blade.
In the original series, Might Guy had said that Kakashi had used the Chidori to cut through a lightning bolt, which is why it was renamed the Lightning Blade. From a different perspective, the Chidori was the initial version, and the Lightning Blade was the final, more refined version. It wasn't wrong to call them two different jutsu.
"With his talent, he might be able to create it," Hoshikawa said, nodding slightly. Once Kakashi created the Lightning Blade, he could probably learn it from him, which was all part of his plan.
"You guys are creating your own ninjutsu before you've even graduated. You're both freaks," Asuma said, sighing. The more time he spent with these geniuses, the more he felt defeated. It was at this moment that he realized being the Hokage's son was completely useless.
"Did you notify Sakumo-ojisan?" Hoshikawa asked, suddenly remembering.
"It happened so suddenly that I haven't had a chance to notify him yet," Asuma said, shaking his head.
"Then you should go notify him. I'll watch over him," Hoshikawa said. It wasn't time for his shift to end yet, so he wasn't leaving the hospital.
"Alright," Asuma said, turning to leave.
Hoshikawa sat on an empty hospital bed and opened his system. In addition to the B-rank trait Medical Special Jōnin, he had also completed another one.
[B-rank Trait: Master Poisoner]
[Activation Condition: Proficient in poison crafting.]
[Effect: Poison potency increased by 100%.]
This effect was quite formidable. After all, it was a precious percentage boost. For example, the poison that Granny Chiyo created for her puppets. Since it was commonly used, Konoha had developed an antidote. But if Hoshikawa were to create the same poison, the 100% potency increase would render the antidote useless, or at the very least, it would only work partially. This was undoubtedly very useful.
It would be difficult for the B-rank trait Medical Special Jōnin to be upgraded in the near future, so Hoshikawa 's next goal was to improve his genjutsu. When it came to genjutsu, besides the Sharingan-based ones, the most famous was the A-rank Bringer-of-Darkness Technique.
It was used by the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, and he likely created it, given how specifically it was designed to counter the Uchiha clan. Its effect was simple: it interfered with the enemy's sight and trapped them in darkness. Unfortunately, Shinku Yuhi didn't know this jutsu. Hoshikawa would have to ask Tsunade. But he felt that, given Hiruzen's personality, he would probably have some conditions.
Just then, he heard footsteps.
"Hoshikawa , how's Kakashi doing?" Sakumo Hatake asked as he walked in.
"He's fine. He'll be good in a few days," Hoshikawa said, shaking his head with a smile. "Sakumo-ojisan, you don't have to worry at all."
"That's good," Sakumo said, exhaling. "I trust your medical ninjutsu." To be honest, Tsunade had a big part to play in that. When Hoshikawa first started performing surgeries on his own, many patients' families were skeptical and even requested a change of doctor. After all, he was so young. But as soon as they heard he was Tsunade's student, their expressions changed, and they became very enthusiastic. In their eyes, Tsunade's student had to be amazing. If he wasn't, wouldn't that ruin Tsunade's reputation?
"Wait up!" Asuma's voice came from far away. He ran into the room, covered in sweat and breathing heavily.
"My apologies," Sakumo said, embarrassed. "I was so worried about Kakashi that I left you behind."
"It's—it's fine," Asuma said, waving his hand. He had found Sakumo and had only said half a sentence before he vanished. With no other choice, he had to run back to the hospital room.
"I'm going back to work. I'll come back when Kakashi wakes up," Hoshikawa said, leaving the room. He was the lead surgeon after all. If they assigned him a surgery and couldn't find him, that would be a big problem.
It was now dusk, and his shift was finally over. Hoshikawa came to Kakashi's room. Asuma had already left, and only Sakumo remained.
"Kakashi, how are you feeling?" Hoshikawa asked, walking over.
"Not bad," Kakashi said awkwardly. He had just found out from Asuma that Hoshikawa had been his surgeon, and he didn't know what to say.
"Mhm." Hoshikawa nodded slightly. "If you have any problems, have a nurse find me." As his lead surgeon, Hoshikawa was responsible for him until he was discharged.
"Okay," Kakashi said, pausing for a moment. "Can you tell Shisui and the others that I won't be able to train with them for the next few days?"
"Your health is more important. They'll all understand," Hoshikawa said, greeting Sakumo before turning to leave.
Back at Tsunade's house, Asuma and Shisui were already training outside. After Hoshikawa told them about Kakashi's condition, they all said they would visit him at the hospital tomorrow.
When night fell and training ended, Hoshikawa returned to the living room. It was a little strange that Tsunade was so late tonight.
"It's already nine o'clock, Sensei," Hoshikawa said, looking at the time. "I'm practically starving!"
"Oh, I already ate," Tsunade said, clearing her throat.
"What?" Hoshikawa said, outraged. "I've been waiting for you for three hours with an empty stomach!"
"Something came up suddenly," Tsunade said, a little embarrassed. "I was invited to the Uchiha clan's compound."
"The Uchiha?" Hoshikawa was stunned. "Why? Do they want to support you as Hokage?"
"What kind of crazy things are you thinking about all day?" Tsunade said, glaring at him. "It's because Mikoto had some health issues."
"What was wrong?" Hoshikawa didn't remember this plot point in the original series.
"Nothing was wrong. It was good news," Tsunade said with a smile. "I examined her and found out she was pregnant, so I stayed to tell her all the things she needed to pay attention to during her pregnancy."
Hoshikawa 's eyebrows perked up.
The loyal son, Itachi Uchiha, is on his way.
For the Uchiha clan, this was indeed "good news."
