Chapter 172 - Mark Armor? All Blown Up! Ruthlessly Lavish!

Facing the relentless Dr. Killian, Tony Stark kept retreating, stammering, "O-okay, wait, wait, slow down… you're right, I really don't deserve her."

Everyone off-screen was dumbfounded. Could it be that Tony Stark was about to die, so he surrendered just like that? Just like Hydra had before?

If that were the case, the scene would be painfully awkward.

Tony Stark's off-screen self also looked grim. He worried that if his future self got all groveling, would he even be able to hold his dignity?

But he wasn't the type to be cowardly, let alone to such an extreme degree.

Disgraceful.

Luckily, the Tony Stark in the video continued, "But there's one thing you're wrong about—she was already perfect."

Whoa, showing off the love!

Everyone watching this was now full of black lines over their heads, wishing they could slap him.

Killian, seeing this guy still flaunting his love even while near death, was furious—he lunged at him in a blind rage.

At that moment, Tony Stark waved his hand, and the scattered parts of Mark 42 shot up from the ground, instantly trapping Killian inside.

"J.A.R.V.I.S., help me out—blow up Mark 42!"

Saying this, Tony immediately escaped, while Killian roared in frustration, "Nooooo!"

A massive explosion obliterated the building above. In mid-air, Tony was caught by a suit and rolled to the ground, nearly dying from the impact.

The tension was palpable.

But no sooner had he landed than he saw Killian, still alive, walking step by step toward him—a terrifying sight.

"Stop using the mask! You said you wanted to find Lord Man… but you've been looking at me all along. From the beginning, it's always been me, Tony—it's me, Lord Man!"

Before Killian could finish, an iron rod dropped from above, smashing him aside.

Everyone's eyes widened—it wasn't anyone else, but Pepper Potts, who had fallen earlier and should have been dead.

Everyone was shocked. How was this possible?

They had all seen her fall from the platform. How could she still be alive?

Captain America estimated that at that height, even a weak woman would have at least a few broken ribs—he was not Superman.

Everyone assumed she was dead, never imagining she could survive—but there she was, very much alive.

Soon, everyone realized that Pepper Potts was now glowing red, clearly modified.

They recalled what Killian had said earlier about making her perfect. They hadn't understood it at the time, but now it was clear.

Killian must have subjected Pepper Potts to some transformation, allowing her to survive a fall from such a height and strike down Killian with a single swing.

Tony exhaled in relief—his Pepper was fine—but then rage surged through him.

This damn man had dared to put her through such a dangerous procedure!

He could already guess that Killian's modifications were extremely hazardous, likely with a high mortality rate. Otherwise, Killian would have rolled them out on a larger scale instead of secretly experimenting.

And yet he risked Pepper Potts' life. If anything went wrong and she died—what then?

"Completely unnecessary modifications," Tony muttered, lips pursed.

But it wasn't over. Another suit flew in, clearly mistaking the modified Pepper for a target.

"J.A.R.V.I.S., the object at my twelve o'clock is not a target—cancel it!"

Tony quickly shouted, but it was too late. His Bluetooth earpiece had fallen off in the earlier fight.

The armor immediately attacked Pepper, but she displayed terrifying combat power—one punch shattered the suit. Then, donning its gauntlets, she blasted Killian into oblivion.

Everything happened cleanly and decisively, showcasing unimaginable strength and power.

It was chilling to watch.

"My darling?" Tony was stunned.

Was this really the Pepper Potts he knew?

The Pepper he knew had a bit of a temper, but not like this.

If they argued in the future, she might just crack his head open with a punch.

"My goodness… I was so violent just now!"

Pepper was also shocked at her own destructive power—a punch, one Mark armor. Was this human strength?

"You scared me to death—I thought you…" Tony said, heart still pounding.

Just now, thinking Pepper was dead, he felt like his whole world had collapsed.

"Thought I was dead? Why—because I fell two hundred feet?" Pepper quipped, finally having a moment to think. "Who's worse off now, you or me?"

"That's debatable!" Tony shrugged, teasing. "Right now, it's probably leaning toward you. But why don't you ever wear this at home? Hmm? Sports bra… the whole set!"

"You know what? Now I finally understand why you never wanted to give up your armor!"

Feeling the immense power surging through her, Pepper said, "What can I even complain about now?"

She finally understood why her lover was so unwilling to give up his power—it was intoxicating, a feeling hard to comprehend without experiencing it.

Tony said, "Don't worry, I've got this. I'll figure it out!"

He moved toward Pepper, but she refused his touch.

"Don't touch me! You'll get burned!"

"It's fine, it's fine—I've got you!" Tony reassured. "You're not burning at all!"

"Can I ever be normal again?"

Pepper feared being like this forever. She still wanted to live as a normal human rather than a superhero.

"No, with me, nothing will ever be normal!" Tony comforted her. "But I think I can fix this! Yes! I nearly figured it out twenty years ago when I was drunk. I can restore you! That's my specialty—restoration!"

"What about those who distract you?"

Pepper asked.

"I'll reduce their numbers a bit!" Tony was prepared. "J.A.R.V.I.S.!"

"All ready, sir! Anything else?" J.A.R.V.I.S. asked.

"You know what to do," Tony said.

"Sir, execute 'Clear History' command?" J.A.R.V.I.S. understood immediately—Tony had prepared this function long ago.

Tony said firmly, "Screw it—today is Christmas. Yes, today, right now!"

He hugged Pepper. Moments later, one suit after another exploded mid-air like dazzling fireworks.

This was undoubtedly the most expensive fireworks ever—each one costing tens of millions, even hundreds of millions of dollars.

"How's that? Do you like it?"

Tony asked.

"Very satisfied!" Pepper nodded happily.

Off-screen viewers watching the video shook their heads in disbelief. Tony Stark had gone overboard.

Each Mark armor costs tens of millions, some even hundreds of millions… and he blew them all up?

They now understood what the diary meant—outrageously lavish, more ostentatious than even Batman-level displays of wealth.

None of them were low-income, but together, they likely couldn't afford a single suit in a lifetime.

"Still, it's wasteful. These could have been crucial assets for Earth, Tony," Nick Fury said.

"I know," Tony replied. "This time, I'll communicate properly with Pepper. Nothing like this will happen again."

Apparently, this was the result of future Tony failing to coordinate with Pepper. There was no real irreconcilable conflict—just a lack of quality time.

The money lost on the suits was trivial compared to the suits themselves. Now knowing the future, he would never blow up these armors again.

"This guy was courting death—kidnapping the U.S. President and impersonating Lord Man. Ridiculous," Natasha Romanoff said.

"But he said he was Lord Man—is that real?" Bruce Banner asked.

"Definitely fake," Nick Fury shook his head.

While many might not know Lord Man, Fury was well aware of him and the Ten Rings organization. They had faced off multiple times.

Many young people today didn't know Lord Man's reputation and thought him fictional—but he was real.

This audacious imposter, even if he didn't die at Tony's hands, would soon be on Lord Man's radar.

"No matter what, this dangerous individual needs to be brought under control preemptively," Tony said. "If necessary, eliminate him ahead of time."

Everyone nodded in agreement.
