Dayo lost the argument to Jennifer before it properly began.
She had decided the living room rug was an ocean, the couch was a boat, and her father was some kind of exhausted sea creature whose only purpose was to be climbed, captured, and rescued depending on whatever story entered her head next. Dayo tried to negotiate from the floor, one arm over his eyes, but Jennifer placed both hands on his chest and leaned close with the serious expression of a child who had already rejected all adult logic.
"No sleeping."
Dayo opened one eye. "I am not sleeping."
"You close eyes."
"I was resting them."
Jennifer frowned at him. "No."
From the couch, Luna laughed into her mug.
Dayo turned his head toward her. "You are witnessing oppression."
"I am witnessing consequences," Luna said. "You disappeared into the world's biggest music campaign for two weeks. She has prepared a full punishment schedule."
Jennifer nodded as if she understood every word.
