Lyla had given Kyle medicine and soup. She didn't know what kind of hard work could have put his health in such a state. His temperature was so high that she wondered how the couch wasn't burning up.
Lyla sighed. She hadn't wanted to leave him alone but she had left work unfinished because of Lucy. And if she couldn't finish her work on time, that would be another reason for Lucy to exploit. So she decided to just finish up here quickly and rush back to his side.
She was currently cleaning a room in the guest wing. Preparations for the upcoming ball had already started and was moving fast. The room had to be spotless cause it seemed one of the princesses would be staying here.
The door behind her opened. Two girls carrying a basket of sheets each, walked in with the expression of people who had the whole world.
"Oh look what we have here."
Lyla knew them. Every maid did. They were those who worshipped Lucy like she was a goddess. One had golden hair like Lucy but her eyes were brown instead of yellow like Lucy's. Eyes that were currently staring at her in disgust. Her name was Ariana while the other girl who had deep green hair and black eyes was Cecelia. Lucy called them "mini me". They were like her in character and all. But one always seemed like she was pretending.
While Ariana had a very pretty face, a body to die for and arrogance—Cecelia on the other hand had a very calm appearance, a round face and very bright eyes.
Most people said she followed Ariana around because she forced her too. Others said it was because her family was poor and Ariana's family was doing fairly well and they were. Rumors also had it that Ariana was working as a maid in the castle because she had her hopes up that was going to marry into royalty or nobility. Guess that explains the attitude she puts up.
Knowing the kind of person Lucy is she was probably keeping them close because she felt threatened but of course nobody was going to tell Ariana that. Ariana turned to Cecelia and spoke avoiding looking at Lyla again
"I heard there was a maid in the castle who personally offended Lucy by trying to steal from her. I have no idea why the castle still accepts peasants like that to work here. They would totally ruin the reputation of the other maids here."
"Hmmm." Cecelia replied.
As they talked, the both of them walked to the king sized bed and started changing the sheets. Ariana waited like she was waiting for Cecelia to add something else.
Cecelia knew Lucy was the one Ariana was talking about but she didn't want to talk bad about her. At least not in front of her. She what Ariana wanted
"Well.. I heard she wasn't like that before. She suddenly started following that mad boy maid around."
Ariana laughed like a broken record player. Cecelia's face had a tint of red. She didn't like Ariana's attitude but sticking close to her in this castle was the only way to escape bullying and get quality food so she had no choice.
"Birds of same feathers do flock together. The maid probably couldn't find who to whore with so she decided to go with a whore too… speaking of which, I heard just now that two other maids caught the boy with the duke's son in a kabedon position.. first the prince now the duke's son.." Ariana snorted. After she was done crackling.
Lyla had been pretending not to hear them at all. But could have prepared her for the news she'd just heard.
Kyle was sick. He shouldn't be able to get up except… Her eyes widened. The duke's son probably called him out for punishment for what he did before. She was frantic. She had to do something.
Lyla quickly picked up her cleaning bucket and dashed out the room.
Ariana watched Lyla dash out. Phase one of the plan was completed. Time for phase two.
'They think they can mess with Lucy and get away with it? They'll get what they deserve.'
With a smug smile she turned and gave instructions to Cecelia.
