"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 329: Shopping Showdown
The weekend finally arrived, and Tenra's day began the way all his nightmares did—Rias and Akeno yanking him out of bed before sunrise.
Bleary-eyed, he stumbled through his morning routine. Wash up, inhale some breakfast, throw on clothes—then brace for impact.
"Is everyone ready?" Rias called out, her voice sharp and commanding. "Let's go!"
"Yeah!!!" The girls erupted in cheers, the kind that could shatter glass.
Tenra yawned, still half-asleep. He'd never understand the mystical mania women had for shopping, but there was no escaping it. He scooped up Ophis—who, as usual, was perfectly content to be carried like a plush toy—and trailed after the crowd.
A parade of beauties. As always, their squad of powerful, dazzling girls drew stares from every passerby. Heads turned. Mouths dropped open. The city's population collectively wondered what reality show they'd just wandered into.
Their destination: a sprawling department store complex near the Kamiyo mansion. Rias and her crew were regulars here, and today, the place was packed—weekend crowds surging through every aisle.
Tenra didn't come here often, but he remembered this building well. Wasn't this the same place that served as the model for Rias and Sona's epic Rating Game battle? Nostalgia mixed with dread.
"Rias."
"Sona."
Sona Sitri and her peerage materialized at the entrance, as if summoned by fate—or, more likely, a text from Rias.
"Isn't this a bit much?" Sona asked, eyeing their party with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"Rare opportunity," Rias replied, a sly smile on her lips. "The more, the merrier."
As the architect of today's shopping extravaganza, Rias looked positively smug.
"Alright, everyone—go pick out whatever you want! Akeno, Tenra, and I will handle Ophis's shopping. Let's meet back here when we're done."
"Roger!" The girls scattered instantly, breaking into small squads and vanishing into the labyrinth of shops.
Rias turned to Ophis, still dangling from Tenra's arms. "Ophis, is there anything you want?"
"Great Red's head."
Tenra nearly choked. Ophis, licking a lollipop with perfect indifference, delivered her answer as if ordering takeout.
Rias coughed, sweating. "Uh… Let's save the world-ending requests for another day. Right now, we're buying you daily necessities."
"Daily necessities," Tenra echoed, "like clothes, shoes, stuff you need to live."
Ophis didn't even look up. "Don't know."
Akeno chuckled, reaching over to ruffle Ophis's hair. "Ara ara, Rias—our goddess is a little fuzzy on the basics. Let's just pick things out and see if she likes them."
Rias sighed. "That's probably our best bet."
So began the quest. Rias and Akeno led the way, scanning shelves and racks with the intensity of treasure hunters. Tenra, relegated to pack mule duty, shuffled along, Ophis perched in his arms like a portable dragon plushie.
Shopping for a goddess was no joke. Rias and Akeno took it seriously—clothes, shoes, toiletries, even a special bed just for Ophis. Up until now, Ophis had been sharing a room (and a bed) with Ravel. Ophis didn't care, but Ravel probably lost sleep every night lying next to the literal embodiment of infinite power.
Rumor had it Ophis slept with her eyes open, lying perfectly still. No one knew if she was actually sleeping or just… waiting.
"Ophis, how about this bed?" Rias and Akeno presented a soft, elegant little mattress.
"Not bad." Ophis's gaze never left the distant food court.
It was obvious—Ophis didn't care about beds, or clothes, or anything remotely practical. Her mind was already lost in the scents wafting from the food court, half a mall away. Normal people couldn't smell a thing from here, but Ophis was a dragon—and her nose was legendary.
Tenra grinned. "Rias, Akeno—why don't you two pick out the essentials? I'll take Ophis to get some food."
Rias and Akeno exchanged a look—equal parts relief and resignation. No matter what they showed Ophis, her only feedback was "Not bad." She was about as helpful as a magic eight ball.
"Go ahead," Rias said. "We'll handle the rest."
Tenra carried Ophis toward the food court, a wonderland of savory aromas. Stalls lined both sides—takoyaki, grilled fish balls, fresh bread, cookies, and more. Every scent was an invitation.
"Ophis, what do you want to eat?" Tenra asked, patting her head.
"Everything." Ophis surveyed the shops as if preparing to conquer them.
Of course. Tenra laughed. "Then let's eat everything!"
He started at one end, methodically sampling every stall. He hadn't brought much cash, but Rias had slipped him a gold card before they left. Swipe now, ask questions never. He suspected he could buy out the whole mall and still not hit the limit.
Hours passed. Tenra and Ophis collapsed onto a bench in the rest area, bellies full (well, Tenra's was full—Ophis's looked exactly the same as always).
"Ugh… I can't eat another bite," Tenra groaned, clutching his stomach.
He glanced at Ophis, still calmly chewing on a skewer of grilled fish balls. "Ophis, is your stomach a gateway to another universe?"
Ophis tilted her head. "Don't know. Want to look?"
Tenra recoiled. "Nope. I'd rather not get eaten in the process."
Ophis wasn't joking. If he'd said yes, she might have swallowed him whole, just to check.
He laughed weakly. "Yeah, let's not test that theory."
Once Ophis polished off her last fish ball, Tenra bought two sodas from a nearby vendor—handed one to Ophis, then hoisted her onto his shoulders.
"Let's go see what Rias and the others are up to."
