Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The First Heist

Lego lay in his hospital bed, his eyes locked onto the firm, rounded curves of a nurse's backside as she pushed a medicine cart out of the room. The moment she sensed something was off and turned around, his gaze snapped back to its original position—staring innocently at the ceiling.

He began to reflect on the events from three days ago. The fallout from that "legendary" brawl was severe: everyone involved was disciplined and suspended for a week. Even Kai hadn't escaped punishment for bringing a firearm onto school grounds.

As for the medical bills, both sides had to cover their own costs since Leo had technically instigated the fight. Fortunately, Leo hadn't attacked Lego the moment they met on the playground; otherwise, Leo would have been the one paying for everyone's hospital stays. Lego felt a twinge of regret.

"If only I'd provoked him enough to hit me first," he thought. "I could've squeezed a massive settlement out of him."

A sudden ringing interrupted his thoughts. The name "Kai" flashed on the screen. Lego didn't answer immediately; instead, he admired the new phone his family had bought him. It felt just like a phone from his old world, only much more advanced.

He tapped the green icon.

"Yo, Fatty. Why the hell are you calling? You haven't visited me once."

"Listen, I'm setting up a job. I want you in on it."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Hear me out. We're short a man. After seeing your 'performance' three days ago, I realized you've got talent. You're the perfect fit for this right now."

Lego recalled Kai's mafia family background, and his brow furrowed.

"You guys aren't afraid of prison?"

"Relax, Lego. My family has serious pull. If we get caught, they'll grease the wheels. Small robberies like this are basically training exercises for the younger generation of the family."

Lego's eyes lit up when he thought about the money.

"What's the split?"

"Five of us, split equally."

"Fine. Send me the address."

Kai was surprised by Lego's newfound recklessness. "This kid really isn't the same person anymore," he muttered to himself.

For Lego, this was the most thrilling thing he'd done since arriving in this world. Before, he'd only seen stuff like this on TV. A notification popped up: Antique Shop, coordinates...

Lego licked his lips in anticipation, but then a spark of an idea flashed in his mind. He quickly typed a reply. On the other end, Kai's face contorted as he read the message.

"Rob Leo's family antique shop? Are you insane? That place is a fortress with high-end security."

"A big shop means better loot. I'm not scared—are you?" Lego smirked.

"Damn... this guy is actually crazy."

Lego was dead set on revenge, and it was the perfect coincidence that Leo's family owned a lucrative antique business.

"Kai, find me a professional hacker to handle the locks."

"Fine. Let's go big on this one," Kai replied instantly.

At midnight, at coordinates X34, Lego slipped out of the hospital. He had stuffed his bed with pillows and covered them with a blanket to look like a sleeping body. He caught a taxi to the rendezvous point.

As he stepped out, he saw Kai waving from a large truck. Lego jumped inside. There were four others in the back: one man with glasses who looked like an intellectual, and the rest looked like seasoned thugs. Total group: six.

"Move out!" Kai barked.

The truck accelerated with such force that Lego nearly toppled over, saved only by Kai's grip.

"The tech in this world is insane," Lego thought.

The truck screeched to a halt in front of a grand antique shop on a deserted street.

"No way we're clearing this whole place out," Kai said, scratching his head. "The noise we're about to make will bring the cops down on us in no time."

"The main thing is we have to be fast!"

"Security inside only carries light weapons—tasers, stun batons..."

"Doesn't matter. We're using heavy hardware with the latest suppressors," Kai said, a predatory grin spreading across his face.

"That intense? I bet they've got more than just light weapons in there," Lego said, shaking his head.

"What the hell are you afraid of? We're already here!"

Kai handed out firearms to everyone and headed for the main entrance, attaching a chip to the lock. The hacker in the truck began typing furiously.

"Must be nice being the hacker, just sitting in the AC," Lego thought.

BEEP!

The door clicked open. Five of them stormed in, grabbing items off the shelves and stuffing them into heavy sacks.

"Damn! This place is huge! The good stuff must be deeper inside."

"Stick to the outer displays, just move!" Kai shouted. "The cameras are dark!"

CRASH! A loud sound of shattering glass echoed through the store.

"Dammit! Which one of you idiots did that?"

Emergency red lights instantly flared to life, and alarms began to wail.

"Why didn't you hack the alarm system too?!"

BANG! BANG! BANG! Gunfire erupted as glass shards rained down.

"Retreat! Now!"

The group sprinted out. The truck reversed, creating a makeshift barrier. A fierce firefight broke out. Bullets flew like rain, thudding into the truck's frame with a deafening clank-clank-clank.

"Switch to armor-piercing rounds!" someone yelled.

Lego fumbled with his weapon until he found the toggle. But before he could pull the trigger, two men beside him slumped over, blood pooling on the pavement. They died with their eyes wide open, not even realizing what had hit them.

It was a gruesome sight.

Kai, now seemingly possessed by a bloodlust, sprayed lead toward the security team.

"Eat this, you bastards!" he screamed, his finger glued to the trigger.

BOOM! BOOM!

Explosive rounds tore through the air, turning the storefront into a smoking ruin. Anyone who didn't run was shredded by Kai's firepower.

Lego grabbed Kai's shoulder, pulling him back.

"Go! That's enough! We're out of here!"

In the chaos, faint, tiny streaks of red light began to drift out from the corpses, sinking into Lego's body. He had no idea what it was, but in the heat of the moment, he could only scramble into the truck.

The truck roared away, the sirens of the police closing in fast. Kai pressed his phone to his ear, screaming:

"Backup! I need backup now! I'm not gonna make it!"

The fat man had completely lost himself to the violence. The truck swerved and drifted through the streets, causing civilian cars to pile up in a chaotic mess. Kai leaned out the window, firing wildly at the pursuing cruisers, indifferent to the stray bullets hitting bystanders.

BOOM… BOOM… BOOM!

Smoke and fire choked the air as cars behind them exploded into fireballs. Kai was even pulling grenade pins with his teeth, tossing them onto the road to cover their escape.
