The Mother puppet lunged. A volley of Senbon Dokubari (Poison Needles) shot out like rain. Hiashi spun instinctively, activating Hakkeshō Kaiten (Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven). A dome of blue chakra erupted around him, deflecting the storm. For the first few minutes, he maintained the rotation perfectly, sending needles clattering harmlessly away. But Chiyo's attack didn't pause. The puppets circled, firing from shifting angles, forcing him to keep moving.

Ten minutes of continuous rotation drained even a Hyuga prodigy's chakra. The barrier began to thin. The spinning slowed, faltered.

Chiyo sensed the hesitation and changed tactics. The Father puppet swung its arm; the wires attached to its fingertips lashed outward. The threads gleamed for a heartbeat, then blurred into invisibility. They carved shallow furrows in the sand as they moved.

Hiashi deflected two with a Hakke Kūshō (Air palm), but a third scraped his forearm. A sting followed, sharp and numbing. Paralysis toxin. His arm trembled, fingers refusing precise control.

Chiyo didn't advance immediately. She had seen too many shinobi fake collapse only to counterattack at close range. Instead, she signaled both puppets to circle. From four directions came more needles... silent, disciplined, probing for movement. She didn't want to kill him. Hiashi's breathing was ragged now; his rotation flickered and died completely.

He countered with bursts of compressed air, Shōtei (Palm Strike) after Shōtei, but his accuracy wavered, sedatives started to spread in to his blood stream. The wires grazed him again... across his back, then shoulder. Each cut spread the numbing agent deeper. His limbs felt heavier, the world slower.

I can't… lose here. Otherwise, she will find out the secret, he told himself.

But his body disagreed. When he tried to move, the signals felt delayed, like thinking underwater.

Chiyo watched until she was sure... the twitching stopped, the breathing shallow. Only then did she lower her guard. "Don't pretend with me, boy," she murmured, stepping closer through her puppets' cover. "I've dissected shinobi older and cleverer than you."

The puppets bound his wrists with the same thin wire, wrapping until blood circulation stopped. Chiyo walked up slowly, each step deliberate. The needles in her pouch rattled faintly as she crouched beside him.

She examined the veins around his temples as she touched them... distinctive of the Byakugan lineage. Then she took out a delicate scalpel from her puppet's compartment, its blade tipped with chakra. One steady motion. Her hands were practiced. She slid the edge along the eyelid, careful not to sever the optic nerve. The eye came free with a faint wet sound. He did not shout in pain as his sense were completely dulled.

For a heartbeat, Chiyo felt an old thrill... a rush she hadn't felt since her youth. She cradled the Byakugan in her palm, watching it glow faintly white. Even severed, the eye pulsed with residual chakra. "Beautiful," she whispered. "Such potential… even for puppetry and medical use, if stabilized... The New age of suna is beginning."

But as she turned it under the light, something changed. The pure white began to dull. Faint veins darkened, and the chakra glow faded. Within seconds, the eye turned a cloudy gray, lifeless.

Her smile vanished. "No… no, impossible."

She tried to feed chakra into it, forcing the optic to reactivate. Nothing. The eye was dead.

Then realization hit her. She looked down at the man before her and lifted the forehead protector. The curse mark on his forehead... subtle, concealed under blood and sweat... had started to glow faintly as the sealing mechanism activated.

Her stomach turned. "Branch member."

For the first time in years, anger cracked her composure. She clenched the dead eye so tightly blood seeped between her fingers. "They switched! No, I was wrong from the start... the injured one is the real one." Damnit, I have used a lethal poison on the other twin, though it is delayed one... thinking he was a branch member. I have to hurry.

Across the dunes, The actual Hiashi... his arm injured, his body burned from Pakura's heat... felt his brother's chakra dip and vanish into unconsciousness. His Byakugan flared instinctively. Through the haze of poison and heat distortion, he saw Chiyo standing over a body. The faint seal glow told him everything.

They'd tricked her. Their plan had worked... though the cost was heavy... Hizashi is injured and one of his eye taken out. At the start of the battle, knowing that Suna's hunters targeted the main line, they had exchanged insignia and fighting styles. Hizashi had taken the backward stance and not making it too obvious, mimicking his brother's composure, while Hiashi deliberately exposed himself to more risk to play the branch role. It had confused the enemy long enough to survive this long.

Now, with his brother down, Hiashi straightened despite the trembling in his legs. "Enough games," he muttered.

Pakura hesitated. She saw the change instantly... the shift in his chakra flow, the killing calm. His hands came together, and the sand under her feet exploded. Hakke Hyakunijuuhachi Shō (Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms). A blur of strikes closed every tenketsu she had open before she could fully charge another scorch orb. The last blow sent her skidding backward, coughing blood.

"Chiyo-sama—!" she shouted hoarsely.

Chiyo spun just in time to see the actual Hiashi appear out of the dust, his injured hand glowing with chakra. He moved with the speed of conviction.

Her puppets intercepted, wooden arms snapping into place, but he slipped between them, spinning once... Hakke Kaiten. The rotation shattered the first puppet outright and tore the second's wires from their control rings.

Chiyo jumped back, her sandals digging trenches in the sand. So the real heir still fights. Her rage curdled into focus. "Impressive… but futile."

She summoned another scroll, summoning replacement puppets, but Hiashi didn't wait. He lunged, chakra coating his hands. She barely ducked under the first strike; the second grazed her shoulder, numbing it instantly. Even without killing intent, each blow carried precision to disable. However, Chiyo escaped with surprising speed. He wondered how she had gotten so much faster so quickly, then it hit him... he was the one slowing down.

Pakura staggered upright with blood leaking from her mouth, forming another sphere of scorching heat, but the energy fizzled before she could release it... too many tenketsu sealed.

Chiyo's eyes flicked from her fallen ally to the Branch member beside her. She realized the urgency of the situation.

Chiyo's expression turned serious. "What makes you so sure that wound on your hand is not poisonous? I assumed you were a branch member and didn't hold back. You twins did give me hard time."

For Minato to become Kumo's most bitter enemy, he needs to be alive to do it, so ... I'll be crossing fingers to see if he survives via fellow Konoha nin coming to the rescue.

Chiyo remains her deadly self, and boy is she chill about doing experiments with the Hyuga leader.

RIP Hinata, we barely knew ya! A princess shall step on the mortal land to heal the poor lamb(s)...
