Chapter 331 Mother and Son Reunited
"Come, let's go outside first. Don't disturb Kushina and Naruto's reunion."
Uchiha Mikoto gestured for Uchiha Sasuke, who was sitting on the sofa, to get up.
Uchiha Mikoto led the two brothers into the front yard.
"Itachi, Sasuke, I have a mission for you two."
"Kaa-san, tell us. What is it?"
"You two go to the market district and buy a lot of groceries. We'll properly host your Aunt Kushina tonight."
"What should we buy?"
Uchiha Itachi asked.
Uchiha Mikoto thought for a moment, then began listing dishes. Uchiha Itachi didn't know where he got a pen and paper from, but he quickly wrote everything down.
"Oh, right. Remember to go to the seafood market and see what's fresh today. Just buy whatever looks good. In short, buy plenty."
"Okay."
Uchiha Itachi agreed and left together with Uchiha Sasuke.
"You are… Mom?"
Uzumaki Naruto asked hesitantly.
He stared blankly at the soft, flowing red hair in front of him. He remembered Aunt Mikoto telling him that his mother had long red hair.
"Yes. I am your mother, Naruto."
Uzumaki Kushina looked at Naruto, her eyes filled with tears. She had thought she would never see her son again—yet now he was standing right in front of her.
Naruto's blond hair and blue eyes truly resembled Namikaze Minato.
But his other features must be like hers… right?
Kushina couldn't help thinking so.
"Mom, didn't you already…"
Naruto didn't finish the sentence.
A long time ago, he had learned from his uncle and aunt that his parents had sacrificed themselves. He also knew that his father had been the Fourth Hokage, and that both his parents had died protecting Konohagakure.
This belief had strengthened his resolve to become Hokage.
But now, his mother—who should have been dead—was standing in front of him.
For a moment, Naruto felt completely flustered.
"It's a long story, but in short—Mom is alive again!"
Kushina laughed warmly, cupping Naruto's face and carefully examining him.
"Naruto, you're a little thin. Do you pick at your food?"
Naruto shook his head vigorously.
"No! I eat everything clean!"
"That's good! Mom was worried you might be picky, but it seems you don't have that bad habit."
Naruto pursed his lips. His mother's sudden appearance left him unsure what to say.
Fortunately, Kushina had countless questions of her own and kept talking, while Naruto answered honestly.
After a while, Uchiha Mikoto walked over and reminded her:
"Kushina, you left a chakra consciousness inside Naruto's body, didn't you?"
Kushina said in surprise, "Yes. Minato and I both did. It was sealed chakra, in case the Nine-Tails broke free. It was meant to guide Naruto in strengthening the seal at a critical moment. Only Minato and I should know about this—Mikoto, how did you find out?"
Mikoto smiled.
"My husband told me. Now that you're alive and can stay by Naruto's side, that chakra meant to guide him isn't necessary anymore, is it? You probably have many questions. Why not directly absorb it?
Naruto had a very difficult childhood. You'll understand once you see it."
Regarding Naruto's past, Uchiha Fugaku wanted Kushina to witness it herself.
If it came from someone else, she might not fully believe it.
After all, Hiruzen Sarutobi had been Minato's teacher, and Minato and Kushina had died protecting the village—sealing their own son as the Nine-Tails' Jinchūriki. Their sacrifice had been immense.
Naturally, Kushina believed Hiruzen would have taken good care of Naruto.
"You're right."
Kushina smiled gently.
"Naruto, don't move."
She lifted Naruto's shirt slightly, glanced at the seal on his navel to confirm it was intact, then placed her hand over the Eight Trigrams Seal.
Soon, she sensed the chakra she had left behind.
Without much effort, Kushina drew out the chakra and absorbed it.
"Auntie~"
Seeing Kushina suddenly close her eyes and stop moving, Naruto panicked and immediately looked to Mikoto for help.
"It's alright, Naruto. Your mom is looking through your childhood memories."
"That can happen?"
Naruto widened his eyes in disbelief.
"Yes, it can. So don't disturb her for now. Shhh~"
"Oh…"
Naruto immediately shut his mouth.
If Auntie said Mom was fine, then Mom must be fine. Auntie and Uncle would never lie to him.
He kept himself perfectly still, afraid of disturbing his mother in any way.
His earlier confusion had faded, replaced by overwhelming joy.
His mother—the one he had longed for through countless lonely nights—was finally here.
What could be happier than that?
But slowly, Naruto noticed something was wrong.
His mother's expression had changed.
Even though he was afraid of disturbing her, he couldn't help asking:
"Auntie… Mom's expression looks strange. She looks really uncomfortable."
Uchiha Mikoto looked at Kushina's face, then shook her head.
"No. That's anger."
"Anger?"
Naruto froze, unable to understand why his mother would be angry.
Knowing the reason, Mikoto did not explain. She sighed softly and said:
"Naruto, do you want something to drink?"
"I'm not thirsty."
Mikoto nodded and went to the kitchen.
She remembered that Kushina liked Gyokuro, a type of high-grade green tea.
She happened to have some at home.
In fact, every year she habitually bought Gyokuro—even though Kushina had been gone and never visited.
She hadn't expected it to be useful today.
About six minutes later, when Mikoto returned with steaming Gyokuro tea, Kushina was crying while holding Naruto tightly.
"I knew it…"
Mikoto smiled helplessly. That was exactly Kushina's personality.
She quietly placed the tea on the nearby table and tiptoed away.
As for Naruto's pleading gaze, Mikoto simply encouraged him with a clenched fist.
After a long while, Kushina finally stopped crying. Her eyes were red as she said apologetically:
"Sorry, Naruto… Mom didn't scare you, did she?"
