Chapter 15 - EPISODE 15

`As the sun beat down on the Eyimba International stadium, a palpable energy filled the air. Spectators filed into the stands, buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming clash between Eyimba FC and Ikorodu City FC. The third match of the season was about to commence, and the stakes were higher than ever.

In the press box, a group of journalists and reporters congregated, exchanging predictions and opinions about the game. Ayo from The Sports Gazette scoffed, "Honestly, why did I even bother coming? This is going to be a waste of time. There's no way Ikorodu City FC can win this one, so what's the point?"

Ronke, a fellow reporter, raised an eyebrow in response, "And yet, here you are." Ayo didn't miss a beat, "Ronke, the team is a mess. They're an embarrassment! I just can't watch." Ronke's tone remained steady, "Well, maybe your presence here isn't a mistake. You never know what might happen."

Rose from the Intercontinental Planet chimed in, "That's right. Ikorodu City FC might just pull off a win today." Frank, another reporter, nodded in agreement. Ayo couldn't believe his ears, "Are you guys serious right now? If they couldn't handle Gombe United, how can they possibly take on Eyimba FC? They've scored 14 goals in just two matches! Be realistic."

Bridget from the Daily Pitch shot back, "I hope Ikorodu City FC wins and shuts you up for good." Ayo let out a dismissive laugh, "Don't be ridiculous! Eyimba is going to crush Ikorodu City FC with ease." The banter continued as the journalists shared their predictions and analyses of the highly-anticipated match.

In a sea of Ikorodu City FC supporters, fans proudly donned the team's colors and waved flags, their excitement for the upcoming match evident. However, it was clear that not every fan was in attendance, with some voicing their displeasure over Coach Kalu Eze's recent actions.

Promise, a devoted fan, expressed his frustration, "I can't believe Kalu still hasn't given us an answer after all this time." Rufus, another fan, nodded in agreement, "Yeah, that's why some fans chose not to come today. Though, I must say, transportation costs also played a part in their absence."

Despite the mixed emotions, Promise remained optimistic, "Regardless, we'll continue to back our team. Let's go! 1! 2! 3! Oga boys! Oga boys! Oga boys!" The fans' voices swelled in unison, chanting "Oga boys! Oga boys! Oga boys!" as they cheered their hearts out.

Amidst the chaos, Ade and Olukoya stood side by side, their eyes fixed on the pitch, eager for the match to begin. Ade shared his concerns, "Man, we desperately need this win. I'm tired of being on the losing end." Olukoya empathized with his friend, "I feel you. It's nerve-wracking, especially since Eyimba FC has scored a whopping 14 goals in just two matches."

Ade's doubts about Coach Kalu Eze's leadership abilities were apparent, "Honestly, I don't think Kalu is the right person for the job." Olukoya, however, had a different perspective, "I disagree." Ade pressed on, "Why is that?" Olukoya's response was calm and collected, "It's too early to judge his capabilities. He hasn't even been in charge for five games yet. We need to give him time to prove himself."

Ade remained unconvinced, but Olukoya's unwavering faith in Coach Kalu Eze was steadfast, "You'll see. When all is said and done, I'll remind you of this conversation."

Inside the locker room, Coach Kalu stood before his players, his eyes ablaze with determination. "Good evening, everyone. I hope you're all prepared for the battle ahead. We're facing Eyimba FC on their home turf. Remember our game plan from yesterday's discussion. Yes, they've scored 14 goals in 2 games, but that doesn't make them invincible! They're human, just like us. We can do this!"

The team responded with a resounding "Yeah!" as they mentally prepared themselves for the challenge ahead.

As both teams made their way onto the pitch, they exchanged handshakes, and the captains convened around the referee for the coin toss. Eyimba FC won the toss, securing the first possession of the game.

The piercing sound of the referee's whistle marked the start of the match. Eyimba FC took control early on, with Ikorodu City FC struggling to contain their opponents' relentless attacks. In the 8th minute, Eyimba FC saw their first opportunity as Akachi delivered a pass to Lucky, their center forward.

The commentator's voice rose in excitement as he described the play-by-play, "Akachi, Maxwell, back to Akachi, Matthew, back to Akachi… and what a pass! It's Lucky… GOOOAAAAAL! 1-0 to Eyimba!"

Ikorodu City FC found themselves outmatched, and on the 25th minute, Eyimba FC struck again. "Here comes Akachi, launching a ball into the box for Lucky… Oh, Yusuf heads it away, but MAXWEEEEELLLL! GOOOAAAAAL! It's 2-0!"

As the game progressed, Eyimba FC continued to create scoring opportunities, their relentless attacks keeping Ikorodu City FC on the back foot. In the 28th minute, they came close to increasing their lead once again. The commentator's voice rose in anticipation as he described the unfolding action, "Matthew, Maxwell, what a brilliant ball to Onyedikachi. He sends in a cross… Oh, the whistle's blown! It's a penalty! The referee's pointing to the spot! This could be Eyimba FC's chance to make it 3-0!"

Lucky stepped up to take the penalty, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a knife. "Will it be power or placement?" the commentator asked as Lucky struck the ball with finesse and precision. "And it's 3-0! Eyimba FC has now scored an incredible 17 goals in just 3 games this season. This team is simply unstoppable!"

With the first half drawing to a close, Eyimba FC showed no signs of slowing down, continuing to create chances and test Ikorodu City FC's defense. In the 44th minute, they came close once more as Jude sent a long ball towards Lucky. However, Bolu managed to clear the ball, turning it into a corner kick.

The shrill sound of the referee's whistle marked the end of the first half, and the players made their way back to the dressing room for the halftime break
