Chapter 15 - The First Adventure

The sun was high in the sky, and the infirmary was illuminated by its warm golden light that shimmered through the window.

There were ten infirmary beds. The five beds face north near the three windows that was shaped like an oval with a straight edge.

Last but not least, five beds close to the thick, heavy, light brown wall in the south row.

Three pupils slept.

A young man is soundly sleeping in the second bed on the left. His right hand was pressed against his head while his left hand hung off the edge of the silky smooth bed that contrasts his peaceful personality.

But that's not all as he possessed good qualities such as being supportive and being friendly. That's why his mere presence brought comfort to others.

There was a young man sleeping soundly in the fourth bed on the right. He had his hands on his chest and was soundly asleep. He has slightly plump cheeks that are nicely rounded. Because it contrasts with his intelligence, some might view it as a weakness, but others would argue that it's part of his charm and find him completely adorable. His name is Ben. Many students ask if he attends his classes and wonder where he is. Some would worry, wondering if he was ill or exhausted, while others would go so far as to spread unfounded rumors about him, such as that he was the principal's son or that he was never a student here. Every time he entered the principal's office, he was overcome with painful thoughts, even though these rumors weren't all that harmful.

Merlin is lying in the center bed. slept with both hands firmly gripping the silky smooth white blanket. His habit of avoiding conflict and protecting himself and his friends is symbolized by his wrapping of himself. This was the only way in his opinion. Despite his unremarkable appearance, he possessed many positive traits. His witty comments typically made the atmosphere lighter, but his acute self-awareness distinguished him. It was evident that he was taking things seriously because his typical sarcasm had vanished in the last few days. Even in the middle of chaos, some people might laugh, but not him. He wouldn't joke or even smile if he were drawn into conflict once more; instead, he would lose himself in nervous thoughts and remind himself that involvement always resulted in suffering, both for himself and especially for others.

Why did I even bring them up once more? Easy. Because the very qualities they had were about to change as they faced the upcoming challenges in order to develop, learn, and come to terms with their imperfections until they were at last certain and concentrated on their aspirations.

The nurse opens the door from the infirmary afterwards she slides the three curtains revealing Merlin, Ben, and Cedric sound asleep.

To wake them, the nurse clapped her hands. "Sleepyheads, get up! You have classes today. There's no reason to be late for that. Furthermore, if I keep you here, I risk losing my job."

"We get it, Ms. Aliya." Ben bowed his head and said, "I apologize on behalf of my friends, and we are really appreciative that you let us sleep here."

"I wouldn't think twice about lending a hand given how chaotic things have been outside," Aliya spoke.

Merlin opened his eyes slowly and let out a low groan of surprise.

Merlin massaged his eyes. "Good morning, Ms. Aliya."

"Merlin, good morning as well," Aliya said. "I was going to take your pulse, but I stopped myself when I noticed that you were sound asleep," Aliya remarked.

I don't want to interrupt any of you." She said.

"Thank you for your concern," Merlin said as he got up and made the bed.

"We must now go to our classes. I hope to see you soon." Merlin said.

She waved her hands and said, "Study well," while the three students looked back and waved as they reached for the doorknob.

In the corridor.

Ben stated, "We aren't going to attend our classes."

"Why? Are you tired?" asked Cedric.

"You could say that. However, the reason is that there aren't many students; if there were, instructors wouldn't be inspired to teach because they would know that half of the students would be absent." He continued "Finally, I don't think going to class is nearly as important as what we are going to do."

Standing, the three of them gazed at the basement stairs. The same basement that caused everyone to tamper with Lancelot's actual identity, his demise, his ally, and his deceit.

Merlin pondered as he stood beside Ben and Cedric.

I mean, I would think about it, but I was always there. Is it possible that this basement is the issue instead of me? But then, i'm always there.

Merlin was startled back to reality by a tap on his left shoulder.

With his hand still resting on Merlin's left shoulder, Cedric said, "Are you okay? You seem to be under a lot of stress lately. Calm down. Don't overthink things."

Merlin sighed "Thank you, it really helped."

"We ought to start moving," Ben said.

They descend together, moving slowly and methodically. When Ben touched a certain spot on the wall, the door opened from the left. They keep going down.

From the prison cell to the capsule project. They moved to the right and stood in front of Lancelot's prison cell.

"We're leaving." Ben entered the jail cell and said, "We're going to use that same ventilation Lancelot and other students used."

"Help me out here," as he shifted the bed. Cedric and Merlin offer immediate assistance. Together they went inside. The ventilation was simple because the path leading outside was straight, making it easier to find the exit.

As a result, they left. The three of them stood and looked out to the horizon, taking in the expansive vista. A sizable town with towering trees on either side that created long shadows in the golden light and they stood on a carved dirt path beneath them.

Cedric's eyes widened as he followed the enormous treeline. "I can't believe that this is the exit," he said.

"How is this connected anyway." Merlin remarked and brushed the cave dust off his knees.

"Let's go." Ben said, advancing a step.

As they stroll, the three of them gaze toward the horizon. Cedric said, "How much longer do we have to walk?"

Ben remarked, "We just started, and you're already complaining, it's not that long."

"Would you look at that? If you studied math, you would see how far we are from our destination." Cedric said in response.

"It's only a matter of time; we'll eventually get there, so let's just walk, shall we?" Merlin offered.

Then they kept moving forward. Slowly the shadowed figure comes into view. Then a horse with a carriage and the postilion perched on its back appeared. The man leaned forward on the horse's neck and asked, "Are you lost, young ones?" as he examined them.

"No, not at all, but we're rushing a little. Do you mind taking us? My friends seem to be complaining about walking, and we really need to go to the town," Ben said in a composed, respectful tone.

The man grinned and said, "Sure, hop on." He continued "So where are you from?"

"We're from the school that you had passed earlier," Cedric said, his hands clasped.

The ideal school, huh? So who isn't from here? The man asked.

"Wait you know that we aren't from here?" The man said.

"The school is very popular because it's heavily known for summoning heroes, Transmigration or even reincarnation." Ben said.

"Ok." Cedric said.

The man said, "what are your names?"

"Name's Merlin and this is Cedric." Merlin said as he pointed at Cedric.

"What about the other? Is he also not from here?" asked the man.

"No, I was born and raised. However, I only recall attending school since I was a young child." Ben stated.

The man descended from the horse and said, "Ok, we have arrived at our destination."

"How much do we owe you?" Merlin asked, looking around as though he had cash.

The man said, "You don't need to pay." Then he paused, "The king pays my wage to keep roads moving."

"Well then thank you." Merlin said.

The trio stood infront of a massive wooden double door set within a stone archway. Its dark surface was studded all over with small, round metal bolts.

Altogether they pushed the door, slowly opening it due how heavy and massive it is.

Soon after it finally opened.

Behind those massive door lies countless villagers, some people bantering, trading on the left side and others talking peacefully on the right side. If we're about to describe all of them like the trio how saw it, I would say it's much better for Merlin to speak up for itself.

"We are in fantasy medieval." Merlin grinned.
