Chapter 148 - Roar of the Gods

The ground continued to collapse, the entire Planet like a hollowed-out apple, cracks extending outwards from the center, forming bottomless ravines. Huge rock fragments and lava fell from the sky, burning stones smashing against the spaceship's hull with loud bangs. Quill had just grabbed Mantis's hand and was nearly thrown off balance by a sudden shockwave.

"Is that so?" Ego's voice boomed in the air, carrying a strange calmness. His core energy, like a surging tide, re-gathered within his massive stone body. His form became even more menacing—every 'rock' seemed to be burning, surrounded by twinkling starlight, limbs elongated, body covered in shimmering energy veins, like an ever-expanding miniature Universe.

"That guy can still transform!" Rocket, holding Groot, turned pale. "I knew it! Why do we always have to face these bizarre lunatics!"

"Focus! Stop complaining!" Gamora sliced off an energy tentacle reaching for the ship and yelled back at Rocket.

"I'm focused enough!" Rocket quickly jumped into the cockpit seat and pressed several buttons. "Don't fight me for it! I'm launching first!"

Ego's gaze fell on Quill, his expression softening, but his voice carrying a chilling maliciousness: "Become a part of me, son. You are destined to be different, destined to become the master of the Universe."

"Are you trying to convince me? Because if so..." Quill panted, watching the approaching energy tentacles, but a cold smirk tugged at his lips. "You're absolutely terrible at it."

"This is your destiny." Ego's tone became more alluring. "The bloodline within you determines everything. Merge with me, and you will surpass all mortals, becoming a true God."

"Sounds good, but the problem is..." Quill struggled to break free from the tentacles' grip, saying through gritted teeth, "I'm a little allergic to being called 'son'."

"I've had enough of family dramas!" Rocket complained loudly while operating the ship. "Listen, Quill! If you're not planning on playing 'father-son' with this rock-head, get up here quickly! If we don't leave now, we're all finished!"

Mantis, her face full of fear, shrank by the spaceship door, hands clasped together as if silently praying: "No, no, no..."

The energy tentacle suddenly accelerated, wrapping tightly around Quill's ankle and dragging him towards Ego's massive stone face. Quill struggled to raise the energy gun in his hand, firing fiercely at the tentacle, but the energy only sparked faintly on the tentacle's surface.

"You are a part of me, whether you admit it or not!" Ego's voice carried deafening power as the Planet beneath his feet began to crumble, revealing the boiling magma core.

"Let him go!" Gamora leaped from the ship, swinging her twin blades towards the tentacle.

"Are you crazy!" Rocket grabbed her arm and desperately dragged her back to the ship. "This guy is lethal to touch, and you dare jump down!"

"If we don't save him, he'll really die!" Gamora yelled.

Drax stood up then, despite being covered in wounds, his eyes burning with vengeful fury: "No one can hurt my friend casually!"

"Friend? You mean the guy who snores every time he sleeps?" Rocket rolled his eyes. "I really don't understand you big guys anymore!"

Just then, Dominic's figure descended from the sky. He stomped down fiercely, directly breaking the tentacles on Quill. The tentacles were flung away, and Quill fell to the ground, panting heavily.

"Damn it, where have you been!" Quill complained loudly, but his face showed unconcealable surprise and relief.

Dominic didn't reply, just looked up at Ego, a mocking smile on his lips: "It seems you really planned to use this 'family' talk to move me? Sorry, I'm not buying it."

"You don't understand, mortal!" Ego's voice echoed again, his energy tentacles rapidly striking towards Dominic.

"Then let me, the 'mortal', teach you what fighting with brains means." Dominic smiled slightly, a cold light flashing in his eyes, and instantly met the attack.

The air began to tremble, and the surrounding rubble was lifted by an invisible force, spinning and floating in the air. Dominic stood on the cracked ground, fists clenched, visible streams of air erupting around his body. His eyes shimmered with golden light like the Sun, and the earth beneath his feet trembled with his power.

"I always thought you were a smart guy, Ego." Dominic said coldly, his voice echoing like thunder across the Planet's surface. "Unfortunately, even Gods can be foolish. Today, I'll teach you what regret is!"

He stomped forward fiercely, the air currents exploding with him, and the roaring blast shattered nearby rocks. His figure vanished instantly, leaving only an afterimage, and the next moment, his fist had smashed into Ego's chest.

Ego raised his hands, brilliant white light gathering in his palms, his body as agile as a living sculpture. He suddenly waved his hand, and an energy shockwave surged towards Dominic, carrying the power to destroy everything.

Dominic's fist collided with the shockwave, creating a deafening explosion, and energy ripples spread out like a tsunami, destroying everything around them. Ego took a step back, a crack appearing on his chest, but it quickly healed.

"Mortal, your power is nothing more than this!" Ego roared, his body suddenly expanding, and countless energy tentacles extended from his back, like wildly dancing venomous snakes, attacking Dominic fiercely.

Dominic leaped lightly, his body shooting up like an arrow from a bow, dodging the tentacles' attack. He spun in the air, his eyes emitting scorching beams of light, cutting directly towards Ego's head. Ego raised his arm to block, but the energy beams still burned a crack in his shield.

"Is this your 'divine power'?" Dominic sneered, his voice full of disdain. "It seems it's nothing special after all."

Ego roared, slamming his fists into the ground, the entire Planet seeming to roar for him. Countless rocks erupted from the earth, raining down on Dominic like a meteor shower. He snorted coldly, his figure moving through the air like a phantom, each rock precisely blasted into fragments the moment it approached him.

"You cannot possibly understand what a Celestial is!" Ego roared, bringing his hands together, a small galaxy model forming between his palms. He suddenly threw it out, and the galaxy spun and expanded, turning into an energy sphere hundreds of meters in diameter, frantically absorbing everything around it.

Dominic stopped in the air, looking at the energy sphere that devoured everything, a cold smile playing on his lips. He took a deep breath, and the surrounding air currents surged again, as if the power of the entire Planet was gathering on him alone.

"I don't need to understand Celestials, I just need to... blow it up!" He roared, his body carrying infinite power, rushing straight towards the energy sphere. His fist was wrapped in golden light, like a burning star. He struck the center of the energy sphere with a single punch, and a piercing explosive sound immediately rang out, the entire energy sphere torn apart from within, turning into countless points of light.

Ego watched this scene in shock; he had never seen a mortal possess such terrifying power.

"You're just a self-proclaimed 'God'." Dominic's voice came from the dust, his figure reappearing, his eyes burning as he stared at Ego. "And I am the true existence."

Ego roared and charged towards Dominic, the two clashing again, the sound of their fists meeting flesh echoing like thunder between heaven and earth. Ego swung energy tentacles attempting to entangle Dominic, but he always dodged with incredible speed and tore the tentacles apart one by one with a backhand.

The aftermath of the battle whipped up fierce winds, sweeping the rubble from the ground high into the sky. With every collision, the Planet's cracks deepened, and lava erupted, as if providing a backdrop for this apocalyptic battle.

The Guardians of the Galaxy's spaceship shook during the chaotic escape from Ego's Planet. Gamora gripped the armrest tightly, watching the scene outside the ship's window with a solemn expression. The battle between Dominic and Ego had spread from the Planet's surface to the sky, each collision like the sky and earth collapsing. The light from the distant energy shockwaves almost illuminated the ship's interior.

"Look there!" Quill leaned towards the window, pointing outside, his voice laced with shock. "Was Dominic just... tearing apart those energy tentacles with his bare hands? My God, what exactly is he?"

"My gut tells me he's definitely not an ordinary person." Gamora's tone was low, but her eyes never left the window. Dominic weaved through Ego's attacks like a burning meteor, each counterattack making Ego's massive form tremble. The huge energy fluctuations caused the ship's radar to emit a piercing alarm.

"Do you think he can win?" Sam's voice was hesitant, his eyes showing unconcealed awe.

"Win?" Rocket scoffed while adjusting the ship's navigation. "He's not fighting at all, he's toying with that crazy old man." Rocket waved his hand abruptly, a sarcastic smile on his face. "But don't worry too much, he doesn't seem like the type of hero who would directly destroy us, at least... that's how it looks right now."

Quill suddenly froze, as if remembering something. "Wait a minute, you guys, did I accidentally offend him sometime? If any of my jokes offended him, thinking back now, the way he looked at people was a bit... how should I put it? Like he was weighing whether or not to just twist my head off?"

"Twist your head off?" Rocket turned his head, arms crossed, his tone full of mockery. "Hey, Star-Lord, you're not Dominic's number one enemy in his eyes. He probably doesn't even have the interest to kill you – don't be so narcissistic."

"Oh, thanks, Rocket, that's really comforting." Quill rolled his eyes dramatically, grabbing the edge of the viewport and leaning closer, as if wanting to see Dominic's next move more clearly.

"Don't get too close to the viewport, in case there's another explosive shockwave out there, I don't want to collect your corpse." Rocket continued adjusting the ship's systems, glancing at Quill, and suddenly said with a hint of playfulness, "Actually, you know what, Quill? If you had half the power of your mysterious old man, you might not be as weak as you are now."

Quill turned his head, his brows furrowed tightly, his tone showing displeasure. "What do you mean? I'm the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy! The word 'weak' is a joke to me!"

"Oh, really?" Rocket scoffed and turned to look at Gamora. "Gamora, explain, haven't you saved the galaxy three more times than him?"

Gamora glanced at Quill indifferently, not answering directly, but added: "If we get out of here alive, I'll consider re-evaluating your 'leadership'."

"Fantastic, what a united team." Quill spread his hands, his tone laced with sarcasm. He looked back out the window, his gaze gradually becoming complex. "What Dominic is doing out there... it's truly insane. He can flip a Planet over by himself."

Drax suddenly chimed in, he had been staring out the window, a rare look of awe on his face. "Dominic's power makes me think... he might truly be some kind of ancient warrior. Filled with glory like the heroes of my people."

Rocket burst into a grating laugh. "Glory? Drax, are you making up stories for yourself? Don't confuse a 'killing machine' with a 'glorious warrior'. Dominic is a born 'weapon of mass destruction'. I bet he doesn't even care how to spell 'glory'."

Groot suddenly interjected: "I am Groot."

"You're right." Rocket nodded, then turned to Quill and said, "Groot just said he thinks Dominic probably doesn't need the spaceship protection we're providing at all."

"What?" Quill turned and stared at Groot, clearly disbelieving. "This tree knows more about battle strategy than I do?"

"I am Groot." Groot spread his hands with an innocent expression.

Gamora took a deep breath, her tone uncertain. "Anyway, we need to find answers as soon as possible. Ego's power is spreading, and if we don't get far enough away, the affected area might be beyond imagination."

Rocket sighed, his fingers sliding quickly across the console. "Easier said than done. The energy fluctuations are already interfering with the ship's propulsion system. I can only barely maintain our flight direction."

Quill looked at Rocket's busy back and suddenly said, "So, Rocket, do you think Dominic can win?"

Rocket paused, a flicker of complexity in his eyes. "I don't know, but he doesn't look like someone who would lose."
