The forest was dense with night, the snow-covered mountains exceptionally silent, with only the howling wind. The distant HYDRA Base flickered with eerie lights, heavily guarded, automatic turrets' scanning beams sweeping the surroundings like searchlights. Suddenly, a deafening explosion broke the silence, the thick steel gate blown into fragments.
"I'll never get used to how these guys open doors." Tony Stark piloted his Mark 43 armor down from the sky, kicking up a swirl of snow. His tone carried his usual smugness, "Can't you use a more elegant method?"
"Tony, shut up!" Natasha Romanoff rolled out from behind cover, swiftly using her stun batons to take down two guards while complaining, "Every time you use the word 'elegant', but you always make the biggest fuss yourself!"
Thor smashed an oncoming armored vehicle with his hammer, turned his head, and laughed loudly, "Elegance is Stark's excuse, he just likes to show off!"
"Heh heh, I heard that." Tony fired, destroying two automatic turrets, his tone completely unashamed, "Besides, showing off is one of my specialties."
Inside the Base, Steve Rogers quickly subdued a squad of HYDRA soldiers, turning back to shout into the comms, "Focus on the mission, find the scepter quickly! I don't want to be mocked by Dominic about our efficiency again."
"Dominic?" Tony's voice held a hint of disdain, "That guy who left Earth for a year, who knows where he went? He should come back and see how we deal with these HYDRAs."
"Maybe he's sitting on some Planet in outer space drinking." Natasha scoffed, her tone gaining a hint of lightness, "Hope he can hear you."
Thor swung Mjolnir open a heavy steel door and said, "Dominic did mention this scepter. He said during Loki's fight, the scepter was lost, I didn't expect it to fall into HYDRA's hands."
"The point isn't where it is, but that we need to get it back." Steve smashed a monitor with his fist, scanning the surrounding corridor, "Move quickly, I feel like there's more than just this secret in this place."
Just then, rapid footsteps were heard. A red blur flashed past, and Steve's shield was actually knocked away instantly. The next second, a young man in a silver-grey combat suit stopped in front of them, a provocative smile on his lips.
"You can come in, but you can't leave." Pietro Maximoff's tone was full of mockery, he lightly flicked his fingers, "Want to try and catch me?"
Before he finished speaking, he instantly vanished from his spot, leaving only the swirling snow and his lingering voice in the air.
"Who is this guy?" Tony frowned, his scanning system couldn't track Pietro's movements, "I like the fast lane, but this is too fast, isn't it?"
"There's another one." Natasha's tone was heavy, her gaze fixed on the end of the corridor where a woman in a red robe slowly walked. Wanda Maximoff's hands ignited with a ball of scarlet energy, her eyes coldly watching them.
"Avengers, truly famous." Wanda's voice was soft yet dangerous, she moved a finger, and the scarlet light coiled towards the Avengers like venomous snakes.
Steve quickly dodged, shouting, "Be careful, these aren't ordinary people!"
Tony's reaction was faster, he raised his hand and released two high-energy lasers, trying to stop Wanda's energy attack. But the scarlet light actually tore through the laser beams, twisting them out of shape.
"This is not good." Tony cursed under his breath, "Who can tell me how these human enhancement experiments were done?"
"HYDRA has Loki's scepter." Thor explained loudly while swinging his hammer to block a wave of energy Impact, "The scepter's power can tear apart the mind, it can not only control people but also awaken latent abilities."
"In summary - we were ambushed." Tony, with the heaviest firepower, shouted while flying into the air to draw fire, "Continue to split up, Steve, find the control room!"
Steve blocked the scarlet energy's shockwave with his shield, simultaneously counterattacking and knocking two HYDRA soldiers flying back. He nodded and shouted to Thor, "Follow me!"
Thor smashed the ground with his hammer, creating a temporary barrier to block the enemy's view, and followed closely behind Steve, rushing towards the depths of the Base.
"This is getting lively." Natasha said softly, skillfully dodging Wanda's attacks while using her stun batons to take down approaching soldiers one by one.
Wanda watched her coldly, with a slight wave of her finger, a swathe of scarlet light twisted the floor into a deep pit. Natasha quickly retreated, a cold smile on her face, "Shouldn't you try some more powerful tricks?"
Wanda didn't answer, her eyes gradually covered by red light, energy rapidly gathering.
Meanwhile, Pietro's speed was giving Tony a headache, his scanning system could barely lock onto the opponent. Tony was flying in mid-air, about to fire, when he felt a violent vibration from behind. He looked back and saw that Pietro was already standing behind his armor, quickly dismantling his thrusters.
"Sorry, buddy." Pietro waved playfully, and the next second, Tony's armor lost balance and crashed heavily to the ground.
"I hate this guy." Tony gritted his teeth, activating his backup thrusters, struggling to stand up, "Damn HYDRA, what else are they hiding?"
Inside the HYDRA Base, the Avengers' battle was gradually losing control. The air was filled with a tense atmosphere, the ground covered in shattered steel and fallen soldiers.
Tony was standing in a narrow passage, facing Wanda's eyes burning with scarlet light. Her hand was slightly raised, scarlet energy gathering between her fingers, like a beast ready to pounce on its prey.
"Whose fault do you think all this is?" Wanda's voice was low and soft, yet it struck directly at the heart, "You think you saved the World, but all that's left are ruins and corpses."
"Don't try your psychological tactics on me, little girl." Tony assumed a defensive stance, the energy core in his armor lit up, "I don't have time to argue philosophy with you."
"Philosophy?" Wanda chuckled, flicked her finger, and the scarlet energy surged towards Tony. He raised his hands to try and block it, but the energy instantly penetrated the armor's defense system. Tony felt a sharp pain in his head, and then, the World before his eyes changed.
He stood on a desolate land, surrounded by collapsed buildings and scorched Earth, the wind carrying a pungent smell of blood. He turned his head and saw all the Avengers members lying on the ground, their eyes empty and lifeless. Most striking was Steve's shield, broken in half, lying at Tony's feet.
"This is your future." Wanda's voice came from all directions, like a whisper in a nightmare, "All of you will die under your so-called 'heroic deeds'."
Tony's eyes widened, cold sweat dripping down his cheeks, "No... this is impossible..."
In reality, Tony's armor knelt powerlessly on the ground, its lights flickering with a loss of balance signal.
On the other side, Steve and Pietro's battle was also intense. Pietro's speed was extremely fast, he circled behind Steve almost before Steve could act, hitting him on the waist with a punch and sending him staggering back.
"You're too slow, old man." Pietro stood aside, arms crossed, with a provocative smile, "Are people like you really suited for the battlefield?"
Steve calmly adjusted his breathing, raising his shield to block the opponent's line of sight. His gaze quickly swept over the surrounding terrain, noticing a steel beam nearby and debris on the ground. He didn't reply, but deliberately raised his hand and threw his shield. As expected, Pietro easily dodged it, his smile widening.
"Is that all you've got?" Pietro mocked, but the next second, his foot stepped on a piece of damaged metal that Steve had deliberately set up, and he slipped. In that instant, Steve lunged forward, grabbed his shoulder, and pinned him to the ground.
Pietro's eyes changed, he gritted his teeth and broke free, quickly retreating to the end of the corridor. Although his face showed reluctance, he clearly realized that Steve's combat intelligence was not something he could easily overcome.
"Wanda, we should go!" Pietro shouted.
On the other side, Wanda had just taken down Clint and Natasha. Clint lay on the ground, breathing heavily, his eyes full of anger, "You think you can just get away with this?"
Natasha stood up, leaning against the wall, and stared coldly at Wanda, "Next time we meet, I promise I'll make you pay."
Wanda smiled slightly, but her eyes were full of indifference. She saw Thor already walking from the ruins, holding Loki's scepter in his hand, lightning coiling around him.
"Go." Wanda said softly, with a wave of her hands, the scarlet energy wrapped around her and Pietro, and they instantly vanished into the air.
The Base gradually quieted down, leaving only the tired panting of the Avengers. Steve helped Clint up, looked at Tony on the ground, and frowned, "Is he alright?"
"He's fine." Natasha brushed the dust off herself, walked over to Tony, and tapped his armor, "He just took some psychological hits. He should wake up soon."
"Damn HYDRA." Clint rubbed his shoulder and said through gritted teeth, "We really lost face this time."
Thor walked over, stuck the scepter into the ground, and said in a deep voice, "We need to re-evaluate this battle. Loki's scepter has become a dangerous weapon, and it was only by falling into HYDRA's hands that these two enhanced humans were created."
Natasha bowed her head in thought for a moment, then said, "What Wanda said might have some truth to it. They aren't just weapons, they're tools being used."
"So what should we do?" Steve looked at the scepter, a hint of weariness on his face.
"Let's take Tony back first." Thor picked up the scepter, his gaze firm, "We must find a solution, this is not the end of HYDRA."
