"Did you hear?" It had been nearly half an hour since Eli regained consciousness. The slave traders now sat farther away, gathered around a fire, their voices carrying through the darkness. "The witch was spotted in these very woods today." Only Emil remained near her cage keeping gaurd.
"Whaaa—no," another scoffed. "Can't be."
"It's true!!" the first insisted. "Today's talk of the town. Said she wore strange clothes and left an ominous telling behind."
"They say she can curse a man with a single glance, turn his insides to water, make him rot from within. My wench's friend saw a man she cursed and he died screaming three days later, vomiting black bile."
Eli was obviously, not interested in all that talk, but she felt Emil's shoulders stiffening, his back going rigid as his head turned ever so slightly toward her cage, as though half-expecting her eyes to snap open and glow white. And she smiled in her mind.
