"Harley, Pamela this is the new gadget I created for getting rid of bodies." She yanked a tarp off the table with a snap. Beneath it was a man in a construction uniform, gagged with a red clown nose in his mouth. His eyes moved wildly between them.
Harley tilted her head. "Okay, not what I expected for a Tuesday."
Barbara crossed her arms proudly. "I caught this guy trying to fleece one of our minions—and he even hit on her. So I thought, hey, why not test this gadget on him?"
Pamela folded her arms, watching the man squirm. "Barbara, you can't just kidnap people on the worksite."
Barbara waved her hand casually. "Relax, relax. We did it after he got home. Kira handled it personally."
Pamela's brow eased, her tone softening. "Oh, okay then. Everything's fine."
Harley tapped her bat against her shoulder. "So, what's this device you built?"
Barbara reached into her lab coat pocket and pulled out a sleek silver phone, tapping a side button. Two metal prongs extended from the base with a sharp click. "This, ladies, is the new Clown Phone. Tap a body, press the star button, and—zap—instant disposal. Pamela's got her plants, but you, Harley, need a portable option."
Harley scratched the back of her head, eyes wide. "I didn't mean to invent the Clown Phone when I was talking about iPhones."
Barbara's lips curved faintly. "Why not? The Clown Phone is three times better than an iPhone. We sell it through Midnight Industries, and it's already earned us hundreds of millions. 15.99$ for unlimited talk, text, and data. And while our customers enjoy that deal, we're stealing all their credit card numbers, identities, and selling them for absurd profits!"
Barbara threw her head back, laughing. "Mwahahahaha!"
Harley clapped her hands together. "Oh! Evil laughing time!"
Pamela joined in, the sound echoing off the walls. "Mwahahahahaha!"
Barbara raised a hand, grinning. "Enough laughing. Time for the demo."
She pointed the Clown Phone at the bound man, opening the dialer and pressing the star button. A surge of blue lightning flew out from the metal prongs, crackling through the air. The man convulsed violently, his gagged clown nose squeaking as electricity rippled through his body. Then, in an instant, his entire form disintegrated into a neat pile of gray ash on the steel floor.
Pamela clapped once, the motion sharp and approving. "Excellent work, Barbara. Who would've thought the Clown Phone could handle body disposal this well?"
Barbara tucked the phone back into her coat pocket. "All thanks to Harley's idea and our patented Clown Phone tech."
Harley leaned forward eagerly. "I get some profit sharing from that, right?"
Barbara tilted her head, counting on her fingers. "Of course—forty percent to you, thirty to me, thirty to Pamela."
Harley smiled, bouncing on her heels. "Sweet!"
Barbara stretched, satisfied. "This invention's perfect. We'll never have to haul bodies back here again."
Pamela brushed her hair over her shoulder. "I could just use my plants for everyone."
Barbara shook her head, smirking faintly. "No fun in that."
Harley threw her hands up. "Oh, oh—thank me again! I finally helped!"
Pamela and Barbara turned toward her at the same time. "Thanks, Harley."
Harley smiled wide. "Group hug!"
They moved closer, laughter breaking through the chemical-scented air as Pamela wrapped her arms around both of them. Her fingers traced down Harley's back before linking with Barbara's.
Pamela's tone turned teasing. "Now let's all make music together."
Barbara's lips curved into a slow smile. "We're going to create some sweet harmony."
Harley's face flushed pink. "Oh, I'm excited!"
Pamela tugged her gently by the wrist, Barbara following as they led her toward the private door at the back of the lab. The metallic click of their boots echoed as they stepped inside their shared underground bedroom.
Harley blinked as the door slid shut behind them. "Hey—you both tricked me!"
