Chapter 123 - The castle's conditions

A volunteer drove Kacy to the castle in a car. Kacy left the car; she was in awe of the stone fountain of an angel spitting water.

Kacy followed the guard to the interview room in the castle. She sat on the chair. Two men entered the room, and her mouth dropped. She recognized one of the men. Axel.

"You're Axel!" Kacy responded. "I've seen you on the news."

Axel sat beside Tyler. "Yes, I'm Axel." He pointed to Tyler. "His name is Tyler, and he is helping me interview you for the position."

Tyler removed his bag from his shoulder and set it down on the floor. He'd opened his bag to remove his laptop. Set his laptop on the table.

"I'll be writing notes during the interviews," Tyler said.

"Lolita has very high standards for her employees. Do you think you can meet her standards?" Axel's voice was cold.

Kacy nodded yes, but inside, she had her doubts. "Yes."

"You'll be working long hours. However, all your meals are provided, and you'll be wearing a bracelet if you're hired."

"Why?" Kacy cocked her head to the side.

"Because you can't leave the castle without permission. Not if you're employed with Lolita, not even on break."

Her brow furrowed. "Why is that?"

"For safety reasons," Axel replied. "We handle confidential information that must never leave the castle. Living here means you'll be responsible for looking after Lolita. Are you prepared for that commitment?"

"Yes," Kacy answered firmly. It wasn't as if she had the luxury of refusing—she had nowhere else to go.

The interview continued for an hour. Kacy returned to the refugee camp. She would be informed after a week had passed if she'd gotten the job.
