Chapter 30 - 30) MISSING WORDS

Droplets of water are falling from the sky, slipping through the perforated roof, thoroughly saturating me as I use the simple handheld digging tool, normally reserved for scooping vittles, to scrape away at the loose dirt. I can barely see in the darkness and the little light available is obscured by the hanging platform overhead.

The woman who works in the fortified building which protects one's monetary gains, had told me, "You must secure your future, by keeping an eye on your billfold." Secure? She doesn't know what secure is.

I should have brought a shovel, but no, I couldn't chance that. They might be watching. It takes much longer, but at last, the hiding place lays exposed.

The case constructed of bumpy, rigid flesh of an aquatic creature, sits before me. I pull upon the lock, comprised of metal that has been fired properly and shaped accordingly, it's secure. A twist of the key and the bolt slides open. I lift the lid of the trunk and remove the soft cushioned object which would normally be employed to rest one's head.

Now I can see them, all of my treasures, which some would consider unusual. I spy the portal from which I had gained entry to the abandoned building, it's still shut. Carefully, I close up my valuables and begin to drag them by the accompanying handle. I find it a very difficult task, made doubly so by my feet bumping into my burden every time I get a good pull.

I suck in my stomach and release the catch which holds secure the article that keeps my pants fastened around my waist. It makes an excellent tether. After what seems an eternity, I have my goods in the back of my pick-up. I'm now ready to find a new hiding place and I must hurry. There's no telling who is watching, but they will see nothing.
