Chapter 179 - Chapter 180: The Iron Stance & The Sovereign’s Thunder

The Ashen Plains were drowning under a suffocating, violent tempest of demonic ether.

The sky above hung like bruised, rotting flesh, choked by plumes of black sulfuric smoke and flickering arcs of violet static. The earth was torn into deep, jagged trenches where burning lava-like fluid bubbled between the fractures.

In the dead center of this ruined hellscape stood Zahir.

His silver-trimmed combat coat was torn to blood-soaked ribbons, hanging loosely from his bruised shoulders. Deep lacerations marked his arms, his chest, and his brow, where thick crimson dripped steadily into his left eye. Yet, his two-handed broadsword remained planted firmly before him, the heavy steel glowing with a defiant, thrumming cerulean flame.

Behind him, barely twenty paces away, Ishita was on her knees. Her luminous golden barriers were flickering erratically, her breathing strained as she desperately channeled healing runes to sustain Zahir's battered spiritual core.

Surrounding them in a lethal triangle were three nightmare entities.

On the left and right hovered the Twin Demons of the Nether Rift—foul, multi-eyed behemoths encased in jagged bone armor, brandishing jagged executioner cleavers dripping with flesh-eating acid.

And hovering twenty feet in the air right in front of them, draped in an aura of pure, crushing void, was Lord Ghost Demon.

Lord Ghost Demon floated lazily, his crimson eyes gleaming with cold amusement as he watched the human warrior struggle to draw a single clean breath.

"Still standing, little vanguard?" Lord Ghost Demon's voice echoed across the plains, layered with thousands of mocking phantom whispers. "Your friends are scattered. Li Wei's heartbeat is silent in the dark. Rehan is buried beneath Morgath's endless decay. You are guarding a corpse of a companion behind you, swinging an iron tooth against the tide of eternity."

Zahir spit a mouthful of dark blood onto the blackened dirt. He didn't look back at Ishita. He didn't look at his trembling hands.

His grip on the broadsword tightened until the metal groaned under his knuckles.

"Talk all you want, you overgrown shadow," Zahir growled, his voice rasping like grinding stones, yet unyielding as granite. "Rehan hasn't lost. Li Wei isn't dead. And as long as I have breath left in these lungs, not a single one of your filthy claws touches Ishita!"

"Impudent insect!" the taller Twin Demon shrieked, its jagged cleaver erupting with black venom.

"Nether Rend: Abyssal Cleave!"

The Twin Demon lunged forward with explosive velocity, its blade carving a massive vacuum through the air. Simultaneously, the second Twin Demon sank into the earth, bursting out from Zahir's blind spot on the right with a sweeping, horizontal scythe-sweep aimed straight for his neck.

Zahir's instincts flared. He didn't step back—he stepped directly into the jaws of the pincer attack.

"Iron Vanguard Secret Art: Fortress of the North!"

CLANGGGGGG!

A deafening metallic roar shattered the surrounding stone. Zahir pivoted his heavy broadsword in a half-circle, using the flat of the heavy blade to parry the first cleaver downward into the dirt, while his left forearm—coated in a dense, diamond-hard shell of cerulean aura—took the brunt of the second demon's scythe.

Sparks and pressurized shockwaves detonated across the clearing. The immense kinetic impact tore the skin along Zahir's ribs, but his boots didn't slide an inch.

"My turn!" Zahir roared.

Channeling the entire weight of his defensive momentum into an explosive offensive burst, Zahir spun violently on his heel:

"Vanguard Cleave: Heaven's Rebound!"

The broadsword blazed with roaring azure fire as it carved upward in an unblockable arc.

SHRRRRK!

The blade tore straight through the second Twin Demon's bone armor, severing two of its upper limbs and sending a fountain of boiling violet blood spraying into the dirt. The beast howled in agony, stumbling backward as Zahir followed up with a ferocious, aura-infused front kick that caved in its ribcage and sent it hurtling dozens of meters away.

Lord Ghost Demon's crimson eyes narrowed, a genuine, sinister grin stretching across his shadowy face.

"Magnificent," the demon lord chuckled, clapping his long, clawed hands in slow, mocking applause. "To repel two High-Tier Nether Executioners while your internal meridians are on the verge of collapsing... You truly possess remarkable potential, human. What a waste to let such martial spirit rot in mortality."

Lord Ghost Demon raised a single, shadowy finger.

"Let us see if your little shield can withstand the weight of a true sovereign."

"Ghost Monarch Art: Thousand Phantom Impalement!"

The sky above Lord Ghost Demon blackened into an endless sea of violet needles. Thousands of spectral spears materialized from the clouds, whistling through the atmosphere as they rained down upon Zahir and Ishita with terminal velocity.

"Zahir, watch out!" Ishita screamed, pushing her hands forward to cast a massive radiant barrier over them both.

"Hold the rear, Ishita! I'll take the front!" Zahir bellowed.

Zahir drove the tip of his broadsword into the earth, unleashing every single drop of his remaining spiritual essence:

"Ultimate Vanguard Formation: Bastion of the Unbroken Star!"

A colossal, translucent dome of cerulean battle-will erupted around him.

BOOM! BOOM! CRASH! BANG!

The phantom spears slammed against the barrier like a ceaseless artillery bombardment. Cracks spread rapidly across the azure dome. Zahir's muscles tore; blood burst from his pores, staining his clothes entirely red as he held the massive broadsword down with the absolute defiance of a man willing to burn his life away.

"Hold... HOLD!" Zahir screamed through clenched, bloodied teeth.

With a final, catastrophic explosion, the phantom rain ceased. The barrier shattered into sparkling dust, leaving Zahir standing in a deep crater, leaning heavily on his sword, his vision fading into grey static.

He was entirely drained. He couldn't lift his arms.

"A valiant effort," Lord Ghost Demon murmured, hovering closer with cold, detached arrogance. "Now... die."

From the shadows behind the crater, the heavily wounded first Twin Demon—Zerarth—snarled in feral malice. Exploiting Zahir's complete exhaustion, Zerarth sprang forward from the blind spot, its remaining razor-sharp cleaver raised high, aiming straight for Zahir's unguarded spinal column.

"ZAHIR!" Ishita cried out in sheer horror, scrambling forward, but she was too far to reach him in time.

Zerarth bared its fangs, ready to butcher the human warrior.

Then, reality itself stopped.

KABOOOOOOOOM!

A blinding, cataclysmic bolt of emerald-black and sovereign-gold divine lightning tore through the sky, ripping the clouds wide open like fragile silk.

It didn't just fall—it obliterated the very concept of space.

The lightning struck Zerarth with apocalyptic precision.

There was no scream. There was no struggle. In less than a fraction of a millisecond, the massive demon was entirely vaporized—disintegrating into pure, microscopic ash under the overwhelming weight of the celestial strike before its blade could even graze Zahir's coat.

The storm clouds parted instantly, bathed in a warm, radiant dawn of emerald and golden luminescence.

As the blinding pillar of light settled onto the scorched earth, a profound, miraculous wave of energy pulsed across the entire battlefield.

The ancient Death God's Life-Reversal Authority washed over the land. The torn earth stitched itself whole; the noxious sulfuric stench transformed into the sweet fragrance of blooming chamomile and mountain lavender.

The emerald-golden warmth swept gently over Zahir's battered body. Within seconds, his shattered ribs realigned, his torn flesh closed without a single scar, and his exhausted meridians brimmed with renewed, purified vitality.

Zahir blinked, staring at his completely healed hands in absolute, dumbfounded shock.

"What... what is this...?"

From the center of the radiant light, stepping calmly upon the restored green grass, stood Rehan.

His severed left arm was no longer missing; it had regenerated into a flawless, powerful limb radiating a gentle jade glow. At his waist rested the magnificent Twin Death Swords, their blades sheathed in quiet majesty. His eyes—warm, bright, and brimming with the supreme confidence of an awakened sovereign—locked onto his companions.

Rehan looked at Zahir, then turned his gaze toward Ishita, his lips parting into a familiar, reassuring, gentle smile.

"Sorry I'm late," Rehan said softly, his voice carrying the calm warmth of a dawn after an endless nightmare. "I had to settle a few things with the past."

Ishita's hands dropped to her chest as tears of pure, overwhelming relief welled up in her bright eyes. A beautiful, radiant smile broke across her face.

"Rehan...!"

Across the clearing, Lord Ghost Demon's smirk completely vanished, his crimson eyes widening in cold, unadulterated shock.
