Lady Chen was pickling bamboo shoots. She always made pickled vegetables every year, usually turning the uneaten Chinese cabbage into salted vegetables. She sealed them in jars, ensuring they could be preserved till the next spring.
But Lady Chen had never pickled bamboo shoots before, though the principle of pickling was almost the same, with only the seasoning and duration differing. On the surface, pickling seemed simple, but everyone's pickled vegetables tasted different. Some made them crisp and refreshing, while others ended up with a muddy smell.
"Mom, put this inside."
Tang Wanwan took a few brown, horn-shaped items from the spice pack and placed them in the basin in front of Lady Chen. Lady Chen had just cut the bamboo shoots and was about to salt them. Seeing her daughter suddenly place something odd in the basin, she asked, "What is this?"
