Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Nursing Home

Late night.

The monsters need rest too. An ample supply of meat allows them to have a full meal. At this time, except for some nocturnal insects and tireless zombies still wandering outside the streets, most of the monsters have fallen asleep.

A rare opportunity.

In the darkness, the most common enemies are the zombies. These tireless slaves of flesh, even with a full stomach, will attack any living being.

At this moment, groups of three to five zombies roamed the streets. Their hollow eyes showed no emotion. They were strong, but their movements extremely slow. A normal person could easily shake them off on the open ground.

"Slash!"

The sound of a knife cutting into flesh.

Chen Feng held a boning knife he had taken from a convenience store. Without summoning an Inferior Demon, he traversed the streets with only his strength, using some zombies as practice tools.

Neck, head.

Zombies are walking corpses. Ordinary attacks are ineffective against them. Only when their heads and necks are destroyed will they truly die.

Chen Feng's reflexes were astonishing. After living in the apocalypse for so many years, his reaction speed was extraordinary. As he swept past a zombie, he flicked his wrist, sending a zombie's head flying high.

Rancid blood gushed out in torrents.

"Groan..."

In the distance, a female zombie noticed Chen Feng. She was a pregnant woman, wearing a loose dress, now soaked with blood. The mortal wound was at her belly, where the unborn fetus had been devoured by a zombie, leaving only half a tiny head embedded in the woman's abdomen.

Infected.

Zombies have the ability to spread corpse poison. After being bitten, mutation occurs within about three hours, turning one into a pain-insensitive, mindless monster.

This pregnant woman not only endured the ordeal of being devoured by zombies but became one after death...

Cursed corpse.

"Bang!"

Moving forward.

For Chen Feng, these zombies posed no threat.

Just some cannon fodder.

As people gradually adapted to this apocalyptic storm, some scholars began categorizing powers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Legendary, Epic, Myth.

Six levels.

Deep abyss creatures like the Inferior Demon are Bronze level, whereas the roadside trash here is just cannon fodder. They haven't yet evolved, simple-minded but with powerful limbs, existing mostly out of a primal instinct to feed.

This world is fraught with danger. Only by surpassing Gold and stepping into the Fourth Realm — after Legend — does one truly master power. At that point, whether joining the military or forming one's own faction, one would be valued and sought after.

As for Bronze, it's merely the entry-level. Compared to ordinary zombies and insects, Bronze-level monsters are larger and stronger and may even emit elemental power, such as controlling water, fire, or the Power of Thunder.

Of course, humans are the same.

Like Chen Feng, who learned the ways of the Summoner, he is now at the Bronze level, with extremely limited Spiritual Power. With his current strength, he can only summon two Summoned Beasts simultaneously.

Once he advances to Silver, the number of Summoned Beasts doubles, allowing him to summon four at once.

Following this calculation, if Chen Feng could advance to the Myth level, he could summon twelve creatures in one breath. By then, his Spiritual Power would be as vast as the ocean, making his Summoned Beasts' existence even permanent.

Myth?

Chen Feng smirked. In his previous life, up until his death, he had only reached Gold. Myth was too far away for him.

But now things were different. In his past life, Chen Feng spent a long time familiarizing himself with his powers, taking many wrong turns. Initially, his Summoned Beast was merely a cannon fodder-level worm, but now, at the apocalypse's outset, he had already summoned the powerful Inferior Demon, far superior to the worm.

Moreover, his mind is filled with experience and knowledge of hidden treasures. Even if he couldn't claim them all, acquiring just a few treasures or opportunities could easily propel Chen Feng into the legendary realm, possibly even to loftier heights.

But those are concerns for the future. For Chen Feng now, the most crucial thing is to survive, to live well.

.........

Elderly Home.

The moonlight spilled from the sky, devoid of its usual warmth, imbued instead with a hint of desolation.

The moonlight cast on the ground, the soil turned a dark blue hue, with a dense fog in the air greatly obstructing vision, making the entire elderly home resemble a haunted house.

Seven days.

Chen Feng needs a hideout. This elderly home, isolated and long abandoned, serves as a relatively closed stronghold.

The long-term abandonment left it lonely and cool. In a place devoid of human presence, the likelihood of monster visits greatly diminishes.

Compared to high-risk zones like hospitals, residential areas, and schools, although conditions here are harsh, it avoids a lot of trouble.

Today was only the first day. The people running on the streets satisfied the monsters' food needs. By tomorrow morning, the monsters, lacking food, will sniff out scents and invade the homes of survivors. Wide doors cannot hinder their destruction. At that time, human casualties will gradually increase.

Survival of the fittest.

Children and the elderly will become the most vulnerable groups.

In seven days, conservatively estimated, over a million people in J City will meet untimely deaths, mostly as missing persons, with not even bones left to find after death.

As nightfall descends, Chen Feng cautiously approaches the elderly home.

Cautious equals a longer life.

Chen Feng's figure gradually blends into the darkness, holding a boning knife with a nonchalant expression, his eyes scanning around like that of a hawk.

Before moving in, he needs to conduct a simple clearing operation...
