Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Coming Clean to My Parents

Qin Yun poured a glass of water and handed it to Feng Lan.

"Mom got fired from the construction site?"

After listening for a bit, he grasped the general idea.

"We're all family, no need to be formal." Feng Lan smiled and said, "Second Sister-in-law, you're an experienced worker. You'll get up to speed quickly, unlike those new workers who need quite some time to adapt. If the factory needs workers, they'll definitely prioritize you."

In the countryside, relatives are not so burdened by deep grudges, and only a small portion have conflicts. Most of them help each other when needed.

After chatting for a while, Feng Lan finally got up to leave.

"Little Auntie, stay and have a meal." Zhao Mei quickly spoke up to persuade her to stay.

"No, Second Sister-in-law, Xiaoqi is still at home."

Feng Lan smiled and declined, and quickly left.

"I wonder if there are any jobs at the factory?" After seeing Feng Lan out for some distance, Zhao Mei and Qin Guodong returned, and Zhao Mei couldn't help but mention.

"Don't worry, even if there aren't any, you can take your time looking. Just consider this period a little break." Qin Guodong consoled.

"You want me to rest, but how could I possibly relax? I don't know how anxious I am right now." Zhao Mei couldn't hold back her words.

"Dad, Mom." Looking at his parents, Qin Yun suddenly spoke.

"Yun, what's the matter?"

Upon hearing their son suddenly speak, both Qin Guodong and Zhao Mei looked over.

Seeing the seriousness on Qin Yun's face, Qin Guodong asked, "Yun, is there something you want to tell us?"

"Yeah." Qin Yun nodded and said, "It's a very important matter."

He looked at Qin Guodong and said, "Dad, could I borrow your phone for a moment?"

Qin Guodong nodded and handed over the phone.

Holding the phone, Qin Yun quickly searched for lottery information, then showed it to Qin Guodong.

"Lottery?" Looking at the information displayed on the phone, Qin Guodong was puzzled about why his son was showing him this.

He knew people could win big prizes in lotteries, but he'd never thought it would happen to them.

During breaks on the construction site, his coworkers would brag about what they would do if they won a big prize, and laugh about it.

But that was just idle talk.

"Dad, Mom, these are the numbers for this issue's lottery. This is the ticket I bought earlier." Qin Yun took out his winning receipt.

"Seven numbers, I matched six. It's a second prize. After taxes, the prize money is over 120,000 yuan."

Qin Yun quickly shared the news of his win.

He had no intention of hiding the lottery win or the plan to start a clothing store.

His aim in opening the store was to spare his parents from hardship, and hiding it would render the effort meaningless.

Moreover, he wouldn't have much energy to keep running the clothing store. On the sixth, he would be going to school, and at that time, the store would definitely have to be managed by his parents.

Besides, during the few days of the holiday, he couldn't possibly handle everything about the clothing store, like business formalities, clothing wholesale, hiring, etc. It would be too busy for him alone, not to mention things might not even be ready by the time school started, so he needed his parents to help out.

Hearing Qin Yun's words, Qin Guodong and Zhao Mei were completely stunned. They repeatedly examined the winning receipt; even Zhao Mei, who barely recognized a few characters, checked it over and over.

"Yun, have you already withdrawn the prize money?"

After verifying thoroughly, Qin Guodong was finally convinced by Qin Yun's words and couldn't help but ask.

"I went to get it this morning." Qin Yun pointed to the information on his winning receipt.

Seeing Qin Yun take out a bank card, the shock on Qin Guodong and Zhao Mei's faces disappeared, turning into joy.

"Over 120,000 yuan, how long would we have to work to save that much?" Zhao Mei couldn't help but exclaim, her face showing a look of extreme excitement.

Previously, she was under immense pressure, but now with over 100,000, the mortgage and Yun's university fees were covered. At least for three years, there was no need to worry about insufficient funds.

Qin Guodong felt the same way, with a mountain of pressure in his mind suddenly eased.

"Yun, let me keep this money safe for you first." Zhao Mei quickly suggested.

"Mom, I've already used this money." After hearing his mother's words, Qin Yun replied.

"Used?" Qin Guodong and Zhao Mei were both startled.

Just like that, over 120,000 yuan was spent?

"Yes." Qin Yun nodded directly, and after organizing his thoughts a bit, he said, "I've chosen a shop to use for opening a clothing store."

He spoke openly and then waited for the anger from his parents.

Hearing Qin Yun's words, Zhao Mei's face indeed changed, and her voice raised a lot, saying, "Opening a clothing store? Yun, in just over a month, you're going to take the college entrance exam. You're not focusing on achieving a good score, but instead messing with these things?"

Zhao Mei, usually kind and patient with family, was obviously infuriated by Qin Yun.

"Mom, you work so hard. I just want to share the burden with you." Facing his outraged mother, Qin Yun had to continue.

He actually knew that when he said it out loud, his parents would definitely get angry.

"What burden? Your dad and I are still capable of working. Why should a child like you worry?"

Zhao Mei angrily retorted, "I've told you countless times, right now the most important thing is your studies. Strive to score well in the entrance exam. If you get into a prestigious university, no matter what hardship your dad and I go through, we'll be happy."

To them, having their child get into a good university is more important than anything. They have suffered from lack of education, working laboriously every day, feeling inferior when going out to work.

They don't want their child to end up like them.

Beside them, Qin Guodong also added, "Yun, our family may not have much money, but we can still ensure you go to university without worries about not having enough money."

"Dad, Mom, I promise this clothing store will definitely earn money." Qin Yun looked at his parents and said seriously.

"Earn money? Though I lack education, I know how hard it is to run a store. There are countless closed shops outside. I saw a big clothing store once, but it closed after just six months, and I heard the owner lost over 300,000 yuan. There's also one in the east of the city, that looked to be doing well, but also closed after a little over a year, losing over 100,000 yuan."

Zhao Mei, living in Qingwu County, often saw rows of stores shut down as she walked down the street.

Moreover, there was a clothing store where clothes were very cheap, and she would buy clothes there, witnessing the store's journey from opening to closing with her own eyes.

In her view, earning money steadily was the most secure way; doing business was like going through crooked paths, where a little negligence could result in big losses, something beyond their means to afford.

"Old Qin, quickly talk some sense into your son." After speaking, Zhao Mei turned to Qin Guodong and quickly said.

She was both angry and anxious, seeing opening a clothing store as a bottomless pit. Not only would Qin Yun's over 100,000 yuan be swallowed, but it might not end there.

"Yun, your mom is right." Qin Guodong said to his son, "We've never run a store, and the likelihood of losing money is high."

"Dad, Mom, I've already handed over the money, signed the agreement. If we choose to give up now, it's a breach of contract. Even if we could get the money back, it would only be a small portion, and several tens of thousands would just be gone."

Qin Yun shook his head and said, "Losing those tens of thousands, we'd be better off trying. After all, opening a clothing store for several months may not necessarily result in losing tens of thousands."
