Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Real CQB

The predecessor of CQB is the special operations concept that emerged in modern wars such as the Korean and Vietnam Wars after World War II.

They are experts in unconventional warfare, primarily penetrating enemy rear areas in small teams, with a unique infiltration style: parachuting, rappelling, diving, demolition, etc., excelling in nighttime operations, intelligence gathering, and executing specific objective missions in dangerous zones.

After modern wars ended, countries originally believed that the concept of special operations was no longer applicable.

Not until the 1970s, with the emergence of global terrorism, did this perception completely change; most famously, during the 1980 Iranian Embassy hostage situation, humans witnessed live anti-terror operations for the first time, and the British SAS special forces eliminated five terrorists and successfully rescued 26 hostages within just 11 minutes, shocking the world and demonstrating the power of close-quarter battle.

This combat skill and tactic is entirely different from traditional field battles and jungle warfare, and is more often used in indoor small environments such as enemy command centers, buildings, houses, and alleys, thus known as "indoor close-quarters combat," now widely employed by military forces and police special units like assault teams and anti-terror forces worldwide.

Coincidentally.

One of the main training specialties in Gu Ji's field of study is police CQB tactics.

Unlike military CQB, which focuses on heavy firepower and strong attacks, police CQB uses lighter equipment, requiring more entry skills; the current situation falls right within his professional area.

Passing through the corridor, making two successive turns, the group still heard nothing unusual.

Just as everyone relaxed a little, suddenly, faint gunfire sounded from beyond the wall.

Felsen, who was on rear guard, listened closely for a moment: "It's coming from outside; it seems to be in the direction of the first-floor lobby entrance."

"Could it be that the rioters are preparing a strong attack?"

A young federal police officer worried aloud.

"No, the surveillance center's last report indicated that the vehicles disappeared, showing that the rioters want to hide the infiltration entry point. There's no need for them to suddenly appear in a big way from the front; it doesn't make sense."

Gu Ji quickly negated, speaking coldly: "A frontal attack is definitely the enemy's 'smoke bomb.' Continue the mission and stay alert."

As a tactical commander, he needs to constantly gather his team's resolve and establish his command authority; otherwise, in crisis moments, it's easy to be scattered by rioters, with no one heeding his orders.

After all, this was just a hastily assembled team.

Hearing his firm tone, everyone abandoned concern for the outside situation and focused their attention on the corridor of the airport work area.

As Gu Ji smoothly turned into the next corner, rat-a-tat-tat!

"Ah!"

In the corridor, a sudden burst of gunfire, accompanied by an unidentified scream, startled everyone instantly. It seemed to be ahead, but the corridor ahead was blocked by a beige metal security door, completely obscuring the view behind it.

"Prepare to breach the door!"

Waving his left hand, Gu Ji pointed at the middle-aged police officer at position five. Upon hearing the order, he sped up, running cautiously along the wall to the front side of the team, coming cautiously to the large iron door, his right hand tightly gripping the doorknob, breathing rapidly, seemingly very nervous until he saw Gu Ji's determined eyes, and gradually calmed down.

"Breach!"

With a creak!

The order and door opening happened almost simultaneously; as the middle-aged officer pulled the door open, Gu Ji pressed his shoulder against the gun to charge in, squatting down along the left wall, with Jillian at position two closely following, standing along the right wall, muzzle aimed at the intersection ahead. Jimmy at position three cut through the middle, and the three formed a small firepower net in the narrow corridor.

As their vision locked in, ahead was a pitch-black corner, with no one there.

"Clear!"

After Gu Ji declared the situation safe, he immediately stood up, continued hugging the wall to move forward, and a massive explosion echoed in the narrow corridor, painfully stimulating their eardrums and flickering with firelight.

Silhouettes!

He saw elongated silhouettes in the firelight!

Gu Ji frantically gestured forward, suddenly accelerating.

Upon reaching the wall edge, he quickly took a step back, cut the angle forward, shifting his right elbow back to shorten the muzzle extension. Bit by bit, he moved until a short distance away from the fire-lit door, a black silhouette suddenly appeared in sight, and he squeezed the trigger, "Open fire!!"

"Enemy attack!!"

Rat-a-tat-tat!

Gu Ji's orders, a rioter's roar, and the 7.62 caliber rifle rounds from a Type 56 submachine gun.

The three sounds erupted simultaneously in the narrow corridor, instantly igniting the entire scene!

In the instant they received the warning, two or three gun muzzles in the dark ahead simultaneously fired, bullets pattering against the cement walls, shrapnel splattering everywhere, forcing Gu Ji to retreat behind the wall, "Quick, quick, quick!"

He hurriedly yelled explosively turning back.

Hearing his voice, Jillian and the others swiftly slid to his side, they squatted and pushed out their guns.

Gu Ji also aligned his angle and pressed the gun, rat-a-tat-tat, the two simultaneously fired in bursts, and with a "whoosh," the enemy firepower immediately weakened.

"Ah——!"

A rioter seemed to have been shot, screamed, and was quickly dragged into darkness by his comrades.

Jamie at position three, emboldened, seized the opportunity, fearlessly charging out, crouching on the other side of the wall, and joining in, continuously firing shots.

This was true CQB.

But the bowler-hatted federal police had never witnessed such fast-paced, dangerous firefights.

Only after the three suppressed enemy fire for two or three seconds did the others one by one squeeze into the corridor corner, madly firing into the dark corridor ahead.

"Stop!"

Gu Ji raised his fist high.

The gunfire quickly stopped, and the corridor was eerily quiet, aside from the sound of their breaths and the "crackling" of fire burning inside the room.

"Advance!"

Gu Ji continued waving his left hand, hugging the wall with his gun, slowly approaching the burning room.

Using the light of the fire, he saw a triangular sign carved with the English marking "Surveillance Center" beside the door. Reaching the door, cutting the angle into place, the muzzle turned immediately aiming at the dead angle on the left, Jillian at position two entered aiming right, while Jamie replaced Gu Ji, keeping watch ahead.

Inside, except for two bodies in blue uniforms shot through the chest, all that remained were grenateeted monitors and various burning machine boxes.

Unexpectedly, even with prior warnings, the two staff members still did not leave their posts, ultimately dying in the office.

Gu Ji slightly bowed his head, then immediately pulled out the intercom, his eyes cold: "Report to the command center, the surveillance center is destroyed, with two staff killed, losing surveillance on the enemy. All guards remaining on the first and second floors, tighten vigilance!"

After speaking, he quickly charged out of the office with his gun, back to the front side of the team, waving his left hand:

"Continue to advance!"
