Chapter 9 - Chapter 7 - Through a Child’s Eyes

The Four Cardinals, each represented by a smaller circle, are linked to the central circle, Radonezh. All of them share the same red and black walls, equal in height.

At the points where they connect, the walls overlap, causing each Cardinal's circle to be split by the main wall of the inner circle: half lies within the central circle, and the other half extends beyond it.

The northern circle is called Nevsky.

The eastern circle is called John.

The southern circle is called Elizabeth.

The western circle is called Matrona.

I have to memorize all of this as I sit reading on the couch. Whoever this Oleg guy is, he had a specific idea for kingdom building.

The inner sides of the four smaller circles inside the main circle contain checkpoints and defensive structures that control movement and protect the Sorcerer Kingdom.

At least we have good security here. I just know there are neighboring kingdoms that would invade us, that's just how it works.

But Yuri isn't teaching me about that… well, who the hell tells a child about other countries that are potential invaders anyway?

Yuri really made sure I knew the structure of the kingdom. Though she wasn't telling me directly, it was a mix of government demand and national pride, making sure every child knows the glory of the kingdom they're born into.

Now, for the Four Cardinals, these areas are important to the Sorcerer Kingdom.

The northern circle, Nevsky, is the area for military training. It holds the kingdom's barracks, training fields, and armories.

Yuri told me that soldiers are trained here to survive and fight in cold weather. So these men are tough, and it's confirmed that yes, they do use rifles.

That's insane. A kingdom with both sorcery and firearms… it makes me wonder how the hell they aren't the most dominant. Or maybe they are; I don't know that for sure.

As for the eastern circle, John—the most normal name out of everything here, is used for trade and diplomacy.

It contains most of the markets and embassies, and the majority of the government's work is done here.

This is the region where Mom works.

And in this cardinal region, Yuri lectured that this is where the Sorcerer Kingdom prosper good ties with another kingdom: the Tech God Kingdom.

The Tech Kingdom is far southeast.

I want to visit that place someday.

As far as I'm aware, they supply tools, weapons, and machinery to aid the Sorcerer Kingdom. Both kingdoms seem to be in a good alliance.

Now, for the southern circle, Elizabeth—it's the center of religion and worship.

I've learned that the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom worship the Sorcerer God Oleg Koscheyenko, the first Sorcerer King, and his wife Elizabeth, who is honored as his divine consort.

Many temples and churches in this area are dedicated to them, that holds their very images, and citizens pray for Oleg's protection and blessing over the kingdom.

But I do wonder what happened to this guy. Where is he? I only know that the current Sorcerer King is a man holding the Radonezh name, and Oleg seems no longer present in his own kingdom…

Wait, I'm stupid! It's been a hundred years! Oleg probably already died, what a miss on my part!

How did he die…?

Anyway, for the last cardinal, the western circle, Matrona, is used for schools, education, and sorcery training.

I'm conflicted here.

As I review with the maidservant taking a break beside me on the couch in the living room, I think of high school again, and I just realized that I'll get to experience that part of a teenager's life sooner or later.

I'll be studying with people younger than me, and they won't even be aware that they're in the presence of an adult.

I sigh…

I won't make the mistake I did in my past life, associating with… idiots…

I'm sure of that.

I'm almost done with this review. Later tonight, Yuri will test me, and I have the undying urge to impress her with my newfound intelligence!

But I'm not done…

I'm starting to get tired of reviewing; this was never fun at any part of my life.

All four cardinal circles—Nevsky, John, Elizabeth, and Matrona, are fully walled with no gates leading outside.

The only exits from the Sorcerer Kingdom are located in between the cardinal circles, built directly into the main wall.

These sections of the wall have large gates that lead out of and into the kingdom.

However, it seems like the gates between the walls have small towns.

One of them is where my family lives.

Obviously, these towns support the kingdom with farming, trading and handling travelers, but I worry that when we're attacked, we'll be the first to make contact. I'm sure they let people from the small towns evacuate to the inner walls when such a thing happens!

Right?

But there's one thing I learned about and got to see with my own eyes. One day in the past, the maidservant decided that it would be best if I got to see some special trade.

There, we saw specialized greenhouses made with Magi Stone to grow crops and produce food even in the cold northern climate.

I don't know how that thing works, but it works.

I wanted to visit the other towns for exploration, but Yuri told me that there's little to no difference between them.

They are:

Northeast Gate Town – Belmoor

East-south Gate Town – Varinsk

Southwest Gate Town – Darsk

West-north Gate Town – Lureya

Lureya is the town we live in, and in all honesty, it's the coldest.

The towns, if you look at them from a distance, look rural enough, surrounded by smaller settlements and farmlands that supply food and resources to the Sorcerer Kingdom.

But in the harsh winter, these farmlands are useless. They do a lot of logging in the nearby forests and more fishing, as this kingdom is close to the Great Ocean of the East.

The Sorcerer Kingdom is also almost completely surrounded by mountains, where they mine minerals extensively which are also used for trading with the tech god nation.

It's a functional kingdom nonetheless.

I think it's time for a break. I close my review book and glance at Yuri, who's dozing beside me.

She looks exhausted. Her ears, still wrapped in bandages after all these years.

What kind of injury did this beautiful lady suffer? I've been wanting to know that for a long time.

I didn't even realize how close my two-year-old self had crawled along the couch, staring at her injury, until her glassy eyes slowly opened and met mine.

"Aww, come here," she said softly, pulling me into her arms.

It was all too sudden. I've gained some weight lately, so it must've been a little awkward, but it was still embarrassing.

Yet she hummed a familiar tune, it was her lullaby.

And slowly, I drifted off to sleep again.

The next time I open my eyes… I'll be on my way to formal education.

Chapter End.
