Chapter 75 - Further Exploration

The transaction with Mr. Rodhook was finalized swiftly. Nightclown handed over 120 coins for the [Angler's Upgradable Rod Set].

The fishing rod was bright blue and impossibly bouncy. Complete with a reel that had an audible, exaggerated CLACK every time it was tested. It looked ridiculous. But in Toonworld, functionality rarely followed conventional realism.

[Utility Tools acquired: Angler's Upgradable Rod Set]

"Excellent choice, Boy!" Mr. Rodhook asserted in his gravelly voice. He bagged three different boxes of lures with compressed cartoon energy. Nightclown spent an additional 15 coins. Total expenditure: 135 coins.

"How different is fishing here?" Nightclown asked. Tucking the rolled-up rod set into his system inventory.

"It's fishing." The tortoise shrugged his shoulders. "Prepare the lure, throw the line, wait, fight, catch. What else?"

Nightclown was speechless. There was one word that didn't seem to belong there. It seemed that here, the fish would fight back. This is Toonworld after all. He wouldn't be surprised if anything unusual happened. Catching a talking boot should be just as likely as catching a legendary carp.

He nodded. That should translate directly to cinematic potential for the movie project. Or unexpected power acquisition. He needed to dedicate one of his next two-hour sessions entirely to this new resource gathering method.

Grinding was grinding. Whether it involved bashing a dungeon monster or wrestling a cartoon whale out of a pond.

He thanked the old angler and turned away. The sun in Toonworld was a massive, cheerful yellow disc. One that seemed to follow him with slightly unnerving enthusiasm.

His next destination was close. The Orchid's Florist. A place where an anthropomorphic rabbit girl maintained her colorful, fragrant store.

She was Ms. Orchid, a pretty vision of pink and white fur. A toon rabbit whose apron smelled perpetually of fresh cut grass and concentrated sugar.

She was beautiful. For the Toonworld standard. Radiating an almost painful level of wholesome charm. She whistled a tune that sounded suspiciously like a major chord progression while arranging potted flowers.

"Welcome, Dear Guest! How can I help you?" She greeted him. Her ears were twitching with practiced cheerfulness.

"Good day, Ms. Orchid!" Nightclown replied with similar cheerful tone. "Can you explain your wares, please?"

Ms. Orchid chuckled. A soft, bell-like sound that seemed to scatter tiny motes of glitter into the air. "Ah, always practical. I understand."

She continued. "My flowers aren't just for looks, Dear. They are grown with the purest Toon Essence. They offer sustained, gradual effects simply by being near you. They carry a resonance."

"Resonance?" He asked.

Ms. Orchid pointed to a row of shimmering, deep violet sunflowers. They were small. Their petals were thick and rubbery. And they hummed with a low, chaotic energy.

"These are the Purple Sunflowers. Holding one generates a slow, steady pulse of Eldritch Energy. Perfect for those who tap into Glitch like. Just holding this in your inventory would increase the Glitch regeneration by 50%."

Nightclown raised his eyebrow. This was incredible. But, it must have limitation.

"It won't be permanent, will it? Is there a duration limit?"

"Oh, Dear. Of course!" She replied. "Outside this place, these flowers could only live for thirty hours before they wilt and disperse."

This was a critical piece of information. Thirty hours of passive regeneration. He could only experience two hours in Toonworld per standard Sherra day. That means one flower purchase could sustain its effect for fifteen real-world days. As long as he keep it in his inventory.

Interesting. This was a tactical advantage that bypassed conventional potion use and cooldowns. It was basically a persistent buff.

"I will take the Purple Sunflower, Ma'am." He decided instantly. "And what about health and physical stamina?"

She turned to a magnificent, pulsing golden rose. It wasn't the color of gold leaf, but the deep, unnatural yellow of solidified sunshine. It looked aggressive.

"The Golden Rose." She announced with dramatic flair. "It reinforces the regeneration of your physical stamina and accelerates healing factors. Same duration... thirty."

"The price?"

"Ah, the specialized flowers are slightly more unique, dear. The Purple Sunflowers are 30 coins each. As for the Golden Roses, they are 50 coins each."

Nightclown processed the cost. A total of 50 coins for fifteen days of continuous, passive health and energy regeneration. A critical investment. He immediately handed over the 50 coins.

[Temporary Consumables acquired: Purple Sunflower]

[Temporary Consumables acquired: Golden Rose]

He equipped the flowers immediately. Two small, stylized icons appeared in the bottom corner of his HUD sight. A purple sun and a golden star.

He could already feel a faint, almost imperceptible low hum of energy beginning to circulate. It was not a burst of power. But a consistent trickle. Designed to eliminate the minor drains of daily life and sustain long-term operations.

[Purple Sunflower activated. 50% increase of Glitch Energy Regeneration. Duration: 29:99:99.]

[Golden Rose activated. 50% increase of Stamina Regeneration. 20% increase of Health Regeneration. Duration: 29:99:99.]

"Thank you, Ms. Orchid. Your flowers are amazing." Nightclown commented.

"Come back when they wilt, Dear! I always have a fresh batch!" She called after him as he left the store.

Nightclown moved swiftly. He consulted his mental list of tasks. Vale and Daisy wanted footage of 'casual Toonworld life'. Preferably involving children. In that case... the playground field was the ideal location.

He found the small, fenced-in dirt patch near the edge of the residential area. A dozen young Toon denizens... squirrels, foxes, a couple of miniature bison... They were kicking a brightly striped, spherical object that bounced with physics-defying enthusiasm.

Cammy, the Toon Camera Recorder, zipped ahead of him. Stabilizing its lens and adjusting its cartoon aperture settings. Recording the activity from various angles.

Nightclown walked onto the pitch. The toon children stopped. Eyeing the new arrival... the grey hare in the sporty blue gear.

"Hey, Mr. Hare! Wanna play?" A small fox kit shouted. Nightclown noticed that his tail was approximately the size of his entire upper body.

"Alright. Come on." Nightclown replied enthusiastically. He needed the footage. And the childish physical activity was a good way to release stress.

He spent several minutes engaging in what could only be described as athletic anarchy. Toon football bore only a passing resemblance to the Earth sport.

Players could suddenly stretch their legs ten feet to intercept a pass. The ball could flatten itself into a disc and fly like a frisbee. And when someone scored, the goalposts would invariably sprout tiny cheering faces.

Nightclown leveraged the sheer speed of his hare avatar and the combat instincts of a Rogue. He was surprisingly effective.

He dodged various ridiculous tackles. He used his enhanced agility to navigate the chaotic field. And he even pulled off a cartoon slide tackle that momentarily turned the opposing squirrel into a spiraling dust cloud before he reformed. Mildly annoyed but unharmed.

Several minutes later, Nightclown called time.

"Good game." He stated. Panting slightly. His new Golden Rose already subtly working to mitigate the minor physical strain.

"You're really fast, Bro Hare!" The fox kit exclaimed. "Are you training for something big?"

"Always!" Nightclown confirmed cheekily. "You've got to be fast and strong to be a great hero."

...

Nightclown left the children to their elastic pursuits. And continued exploring.

He quickly saw a structure on the northern edge of the village. A distinct building that was too... oriental to be a residential home here.

He read the sign on it the Mighty Beast Dojo. The building was constructed of dark, polished wood. With a heavy, sliding paper door that was ridiculously oversized.

Nightclown pushed the door open. Inside, the main hall was sparsely decorated. Featuring only a rack of wooden practice weapons and a raised platform. Standing in the center was the instructor, an old anthropomorphic badger. Frail and hunchbacked.

The system informed him. It was Mr. Clawton, the dojo master. He wore a simple, heavy gi. And his face was a tapestry of wrinkles and old battle scars. He looked fragile but he was radiating great disciplined power.

"You are not from the village, Young Hare." Mr. Clawton stated. His voice was hoarse and trembling. But his eyes were sharp. Small, dark points of intense focus.

"My name is Nightclown, Sir." Jester replied, standing politely. "I am here to join a specialized physical combat instruction. Can I?"

Mr. Clawton slowly circled him. Scrutinizing his small, athletic frame. "You rely on speed and exploiting openings. Your gait suggests avoidance rather than confrontation. We teach three styles here, Boy."

The badger pointed a thick, clawed hand at a scroll hanging on the wall. "First... the [Meteor Fists]. Pure, brute kinetic force. Every strike is a compressed explosion. For those who can stand still and trade blows. Definitely not for you."

He continued. "Second... the [Hurricane Kicks]. Focuses on fluid movement and rapid, sustained leg-based offense. Designed to maintain distance, interrupt, and leverage agility into overwhelming pressure. Suitable for your style."

"And third... the [Seven Beast Strikes]." The badger said. "A hybrid style. Complex internalization of seven distinct animal forms for versatility in any situation. High skill floor, high reward. So, which one do you want?"
