Chapter 53 - Not Drinking, Liam?

"Haah!"

Lego gulped it down in one go and slammed the glass onto the table.

Crash—

It shattered.

Lego raised a hand and rubbed the back of his head, laughing sheepishly.

"Oops, almost forgot. I thought it was a wooden bowl."

Cyra hurriedly stood up, lifted Lego's hand, and carefully felt along his knuckles with her small hands, her little face showing clear worry.

"It's fine, it's fine, dear, don't worry."

After confirming no cuts, she finally relaxed.

But her expression immediately shifted.

Frowning, she scolded, "Darling, you're so careless. Good thing you're not hurt. Don't do that next time, okay?"

"I know."

Cyra narrowed her eyes at him, then turned to Liam and said softly, "Sorry, Liam, for the trouble."

"It's... it's fine..."

Liam's raised arm hung frozen in the air, his sharply defined, ashen face filled with utter shock.

"Mhm, mhm."

Getting his response, Cyra turned and busied herself again.

Celia moved her hand from her own cup, stood up, and quietly crept to her father's side.

"Daddy..." she whispered.

"I'm fine."

Lego used his rough, experienced hand to pat his obedient daughter's head reassuringly.

"Is Celia actually worried about her dad?"

"Wah..."

"Thank you for your concern, daughter. Hurry back to your husband now."

"Oh..."

Celia curled her fingers, her face red, and scurried back to her seat in a few quick steps.

Over the past month, Celia had rarely seen her father.

Most times when she returned home, only her mother was there alone.

So... even after a month, facing her father in this body was still deeply embarrassing.

Only once had Liam finally agreed to let her mother accompany her to the Eternal Tree to see Lego.

Although her mother's cultivation hadn't progressed an inch, this way she could at least stay by his side, watching Lego practice.

Two hundred years had passed, and their affection for each other remained strong.

This loving bond was a reflection of elven relationship customs.

Once two elves developed feelings and confirmed their relationship, it was practically a lifelong commitment.

Even now, they still regularly had that kind of intimate life almost every week...

—"Darling~! I..."

Noisy...

Perhaps this was an unexpected benefit of becoming Liam's wife.

From now on, she could finally sleep soundly every night.

No!

It was never peaceful at all!

Right now,Celia looked at Liam's strange expression, feeling puzzled.

Cyra went back and forth, fumbling for a while, finally managing to clean up the glass shards.

She then poured another full cup for him.

"Drink slowly this time~"

Lego nodded, rubbed Cyra's head, and smiled.

"Thanks, wife."

He glanced at the brimming cup of Liangquan Wine, swirled it in his mouth thoughtfully a couple of times, then turned to Liam.

"Brother Liam, what kind of wine is this? It's incredibly delicious."

Liam was sweating profusely.

His gaze was practically glued to Lego, his Adam's apple bobbing.

"Mr. Lego, you said... it's delicious?"

A full ten minutes had passed, yet the other party's handsome face showed not a trace of drunken flush, and his speech was perfectly clear—no sign of intoxication at all.

One must know, this Liangquan Wine, according to the recipe, was a superb liquor, but it was meant to be sipped slowly, not chugged in large gulps.

Because its alcohol content was a whopping 50%!

In the demon realms, most people actually preferred beers under 5% ABV and couldn't really appreciate Liangquan Wine.

Having stayed here for a month, Liam learned that the elves enjoyed fine wine. Just today, while buying ingredients, he happened to brew over a dozen jars of this wine for Celia's family.

"Of course it's delicious. The flavor is mellow and smooth on the tongue, the best wine I've ever tasted. It's strange though... why do I sense natural mana in it?"

Lego expressed strong approval.

"Ah, I infused some natural mana. It's beneficial for nourishing your bodies."

Liam had still used the power of the crystal ball.

Celia understood less and less what her husband was thinking.

Thinking carefully, she couldn't be bothered to care.

On rare occasions, he did become very strange, like... wanting to strangle her.

Looking at the food on the table, Celia quietly placed her small hands on the edge.

A trickle of drool escaped the corner of her mouth.

She really wanted to grab a bite right now, but seeing her family members all drinking...

She'd wait a bit longer...

"I'll try some too."

Cyra wiped her small hands hastily on her apron.

After speaking, she casually picked up a goblet by its stem, tilted her head back, and gulped it down.

"Ha—"

Cyra gently set the cup down, wearing an expression of relaxed ease and utter satisfaction, a slight blush gracing her fair cheeks.

"As expected of Liam, my daughter's husband. Liangquan Wine is truly delicious, so sweet~"

She covered her lips with one small hand, praising him sweetly, then looked at Liam, puzzled.

"Huh? Lord Liam, why aren't you drinking?"

Elves coexisted with nature, their bodies constantly circulating mana fused with the natural world.

For them, beverages like wine were often seen as foreign impurities.

Their bodies would instinctively activate a purification mechanism to automatically expel them.

But even so, the 50% alcohol in Liangquan Wine could ultimately be absorbed smoothly without placing any burden on the body.

In contrast, the 'impurities' from ordinary beer were too faint.

The natural mana fused within their bodies, upon sensing it, wouldn't pay it much mind.

Additionally, elven taste buds were fundamentally different from humans'.

Alcohol entering their mouths would often break down into mostly bitter notes.

"Then I'll drink...?"

Liam's fingertips lightly picked up the wine glass.

He didn't swirl it this time, smelling the rich, mellow aroma of alcohol so close.

His face was heavily shadowed, his pupils contracted violently in the dim light, staring fixedly at the cup before him as if trying to bore a hole through it.

Should he down it in one go, just like them?

"If it's really too much, please don't force yourself. You can just give the wine to Celia to drink."

Cyra advised with concern, but to Liam, it sounded more like teasing.

How could he?

His expression grew darker.

Gritting his teeth, he imitated Celia's parents and simply poured the Liangquan Wine into his mouth.

Gulp, gulp.

His Adam's apple bobbed.

After just two swallows, he couldn't stand the fiery burn.

His throat felt like it was on fire, but he didn't spit it out. He kept drinking...

When he set the cup down, he had managed to drink over half of it.

A 500-milliliter cup...

Liam now felt unbearably dizzy and promptly slumped weakly onto the dining table.

"Lord Lia—... Husband!"

In her panic, Celia nearly used the wrong address.

Seeing her husband in such a state made her heart skip a beat.

She hurriedly got up from her stool.

She rushed over, placed her small hands on his back, and for a moment didn't know what to do.

"Heh, this is somewhat interesting..."
