Penelope glanced over at me while Julian continued searching through the songs. She gave me a small, knowing smirk. I met her eyes for a moment but didn't react. I simply leaned farther back into the couch and looked at the TV.
A few seconds later, Julian finally stopped scrolling. "I found one."
Penelope looked over at him. "What did you pick?"
"Oh, you'll see."
My phone buzzed in my pocket. Emma was calling.
Shit. Emma was calling? For what? I just hoped this wasn't about the video we shot yesterday. She had promised my face wouldn't be shown, and I was counting on her to keep that end of the deal. Otherwise my life would be ruined.
"I have to take this," I said, standing up. "Work stuff."
"Sure, man," Julian replied. "Want us to wait?"
"No, no. You guys go ahead."
"Okay."
I stepped out of the room and walked a short distance down the hallway before answering.
"Emma?"
"Hey, Evan," she said in that same flat tone. "I just wanted to thank you again for yesterday."
