I was nothing special.

A shut-in. A chubby, ordinary girl who blended into the background like a shadow. Easy to ignore. Easier to mock.

The world never ran out of ways to remind me I didn’t belong. Cruel jokes in hallways. Laughter that followed me home. Words sharper than blades, carving deeper than bruises ever could. 

Bit by bit, I shrank into myself until there was nothing left but silence and the weight of my own loneliness.

Mr. Park's voice softened slightly, though the concern was still obvious.


"And Angel isn't exactly ready for something like this, is she?" he continued. "She hasn't even gone back to singing yet."


That part… unfortunately… was true.


"She's still avoiding the stage," Mr. Park added. "Avoiding the studio. Avoiding microphones."


I leaned back slowly, letting his words sink in. From the outside, I probably looked perfectly relaxed—like a woman who had everything carefully planned out.


You just promised the biggest music competition in the world that you have a singer who hasn't even agreed to sing yet and even not sure if she would sing at all.


But outwardly, my grin slowly returned.
