Godfrey met Gwen at the staircase. She smiled at him while he raised an eyebrow.
He went up to the mezzanine and approached Isolde. She looked troubled and gazed at him strangely, as if fighting internally, and whatever caused that fight had to do with him.
"What did she say about me?" Godfrey looked at Gwen and back at Isolde, who stretched out her hand and touched his chest.
She exhaled. "Gwen said you're not real. That—!"
"In a way, I'm not."
Godfrey's reply made Isolde's eyes widen. "What? What do you mean by you're not real?!"
Godfrey leaned on the railing, twirling the wine in his glass cup. "Iso… this man is the unknown king of the Pathan people. I'm not supposed to exist since I wasn't real in the first place."
Isolde's irises trembled. She finally realized. Gwen had actually told her a secret about Cain. He was just like Godfrey, a make-belief brought into reality!
"She said Cain isn't real just like you," Isolde said rapidly.
