Chapter 114 - Chapter 114:[Hidden Masks ARC] The Ant and the Plan

Chapter 114 (Part 05)

The morning sun crept through the curtains, pale and indifferent.

Alok sat on the edge of his bed, his hands resting on his knees, his eyes fixed on the blank wall in front of him. He had been awake for hours. His body had slept, but his mind had not.

The camping trip was over. His mother and sister had returned to their normal routines Agata already back to scrolling through her phone, his mother humming softly as she prepared breakfast.

But Alok could not return to normal.

He thought about Tira. About the message she had sent. "Please be safe. I promise to help you as much as I can." He hadn't heard from her since. No updates. No intel from inside Vaelia's circle. She was deep undercover now too deep to risk contact.

He thought about Ceya. About the word she had written in the dirt. HELP.

He thought about Sera. About Leo.

He thought about the man in the black coat. About Chairman Deric Voss.

I can't do this alone.

But he had to.

His phone buzzed. He picked it up, expecting a message from Tira.

It was Sera.

Sera: "Alok. I have to go back to Valdris. Leo's condition is worse. The doctors say it's critical. I'm leaving tonight."

Alok stared at the screen. His thumb hovered over the keyboard.

He typed: "I'm sorry. I have to go to Feilw Land. I can't help you with Leo."

He paused. His jaw tightened.

She needs help. But I can't give it to her. Not now.

He deleted the message and typed again:

Alok: "I understand. Go. Take care of him."

Sera: "I'll come back when I can. Promise me you'll be careful."

Alok: "I promise."

He set the phone down and stared at the ceiling.

One by one, they're leaving. First Tira. Now Sera. Soon it will be just me.

He stood up and walked to his laptop.

The morning passed in a blur of frustration.

Alok scrolled through news articles, old media reports, and government announcements. He searched for anything about the border incident, the soldiers, the emergency meeting.

Nothing.

Every article was vague. Every official statement was empty. The government had locked the information away.

Then, a new headline caught his eye.

"Government Announces Breakthrough in Mental Health Treatment B.O.R. Therapy Now Available to the Public."

Alok's eyes narrowed. He clicked the link.

The article was filled with glowing praise. "A revolutionary treatment to combat chronic stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue..." "Developed by leading scientists to promote emotional stability..." "Available at select clinics across Castrone..."

Alok stared at the screen.

B.O.R. Therapy.

He remembered Dr. Morvane's words from the emergency meeting. He remembered the uranium, the energy nets, the puppet soldiers.

They're not curing mental stress. They're testing the B.O.R. System on the public. They're using a health crisis as cover.

His hands clenched into fists.

They're turning people into weapons. And they're making them volunteer for it.

He pushed the laptop aside and stood up, walking to the window. The city stretched out below him, gray and indifferent.

I need to get out of here.

The park was quiet.

The afternoon sun was warm, casting long shadows across the grass. Children laughed in the distance. Couples walked hand in hand along the paved paths.

Alok sat on a wooden bench beneath a large tree, his hands resting on his knees.

Agata sat beside him, swinging her legs, her face bright with the simple joy of being outside.

"You've been quiet all day," she said, glancing at him. "What's wrong?"

Alok didn't answer immediately. He stared at the sky, watching the clouds drift lazily overhead.

"Just thinking," he said.

"About what?"

He shook his head. "Nothing important."

Agata tilted her head, studying him. "You know, you used to smile more. When we were kids. You'd laugh at stupid jokes and chase me around the park."

Alok's lips twitched. "I remember."

"What happened?"

He looked at her. Her eyes were wide and curious, untouched by the darkness that had consumed him.

She doesn't know, he thought. She doesn't know about the pendant. About Extera. About Ceya. About the B.O.R. System. She doesn't know that the government is turning people into puppets.

And he wanted to keep it that way.

"Life happened," he said quietly.

Agata frowned. "That's a stupid answer."

Alok almost smiled. Almost.

Agata stood up, brushing off her dress.

"I'm going to get us ice cream," she said. "You need to cool your head."

Alok looked at her. "You don't have to...."

"I want to," she cut him off. "Stay here. Don't move."

She ran off before he could argue.

Alok leaned back on the bench, watching her disappear into the crowd.

She's growing up, he thought. She's becoming someone I don't fully know.

He looked up at the sky.

And I'm becoming someone I don't fully recognize.

The clouds darkened suddenly.

Alok blinked, startled by the shift. The warm sun vanished behind a wall of gray, and the air grew heavy with the promise of rain.

He stood up, scanning the park for Agata.

She was already running toward him, two ice cream cones in her hands.

"Alok! It's going to rain!"

The first drops fell. Then the sky opened.

Rain poured down in sheets, soaking them both in seconds.

Alok grabbed Agata's arm and pulled her toward a small summer hut nearby. They stumbled inside, dripping wet, laughing despite themselves.

Agata looked down at her ice cream. It was half melted, running down her fingers.

"Great," she said, laughing. "My ice cream is ruined."

Alok looked at his own cone. It was already dripping onto the ground.

"At least we're dry," he said.

Agata grinned. "Dry? We're soaked!"

Alok looked at her. Her hair was plastered to her face, her dress clinging to her shoulders. But she was still smiling.

She's still smiling.

He looked down at his melting ice cream. It was almost gone now, a puddle of white on the ground.

And then he saw it.

Ants.

A group of them about ten moving in perfect coordination. They had surrounded a praying mantis, circling it slowly, methodically. No one rushed. No one panicked. They simply moved in unison, tightening the circle step by step, until the prey had nowhere to go.

Alok watched them work.

They moved with purpose. They didn't scatter. They didn't hesitate. They just advanced, one step at a time, until the prey was trapped.

One step at a time. Patient. Methodical. Surround and isolate.

Alok's eyes widened.

That's it.

He felt a cold clarity settle over him. The fog in his mind lifted, replaced by something sharp and focused.

He thought about the chairman. About Vaelia. About the man in the black coat. About the B.O.R. System.

I've been trying to do everything at once. I've been trying to fight all of them at the same time.

He watched the ants continue their work.

But I don't have to. I just have to take them one at a time. Surround them. Isolate them. Remove them one by one.

He felt a smile spread across his face a slow, cold, calculated smile.

Agata looked at him, startled. "What?"

Alok didn't answer. He just stared at the ants, his mind already spinning.

First, I find a way into Feilw Land. Then I find Ceya. Then I deal with Vaelia. Then I find a way to stop the B.O.R. System.

One step at a time.

He whispered to himself, barely audible:

"Ah, super... yes."

Agata frowned. "What?"

Alok turned to her. His face was calm, almost serene.

"Nothing. I just..." He paused. "I just figured something out."

Agata tilted her head. "Like what?"

Alok shook his head. "It's nothing you need to worry about."

He looked out at the rain. It was beginning to slow, the dark clouds already starting to break.

One step at a time. I'll untangle all of it. And I'll save everyone.

He stood up, stretching his arms.

"Come on," he said. "Let's go home."

Agata smiled and followed him out of the hut.
