Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Mewtwo Drives a Hard Bargain

Mewtwo?!

A Legendary Pokémon?!

Kyouya's sky-blue eyes narrowed, his face suddenly dead serious.

He'd always known he didn't stand a real chance against Silas—he'd figured that out during his research. So, he'd pretty much written off the League's "stop Silas at all costs" assignment. The only reason he showed up today was to have an absolute, no-holds-barred Trainer's battle and see for himself just how far his own skills could take him.

But he never expected that right off the bat, he'd be up against the ultimate of legends—Mewtwo.

'Alakazam~'

The instant Mewtwo appeared, Alakazam started trembling.

That wasn't just nervousness. It was soul-deep, born from both fear and awe. Fear—of Mewtwo's power. Awe—because it knew, deep down, that it was facing the god of all Psychic types. If Alakazam hadn't spent so many years traveling on a knife's edge with Kyouya, he probably would've collapsed right there and then.

"Alakazam!" Kyouya immediately picked up on his partner's nerves. He encouraged him, "Don't be scared! If you really are facing the God of Psychic, you should be hyped. After all, how many Psychics ever get a shot at the very top? Treat this as an honor—most wouldn't even get close!"

'Alakazam...'

Alakazam responded quietly, his tremors slowly dying down. Clearly, Kyouya's pep talk helped—a little, at least.

Seeing his Alakazam was managing to hold it together, Kyouya knew he couldn't leave him hanging any longer. If he did, Alakazam probably wouldn't even be able to attack. So, he called out, "Alakazam! Use Psycho Cut!"

'Alakazam!'

Gritting his teeth against his inner terror and reverence, Alakazam launched his attack!

Spinning both his Twisted Spoons like swords, he slashed an X into the air, unleashing a brilliant, multi-colored cross of psychic energy, hurtling right at Mewtwo like a missile!

"Hmph!"

As the attack streaked his way, Mewtwo calmly raised a hand. Blue psychic energy glinted in his eyes.

With that simple glare, Psycho Cut stopped dead in midair, completely frozen, as if the very space around it had solidified. The attack couldn't budge an inch.

Legendary Pokémon really are monsters!

Boom!

Watching Mewtwo not only withstand, but completely lock down his attack, Kyouya couldn't help but smirk wryly—his hopes of a fair fight fading. While he was still marveling, Mewtwo lowered his raised hand, and the frozen psycho cross instantly crashed to the arena floor, setting off a small but thunderous explosion.

"I gotta say,"

Having dealt with the attack, Mewtwo turned toward Silas with a disgruntled tone, "That guy you fought yesterday wasn't bad. Why didn't you let me out then? And now, against a weaker opponent, you throw me in? What, you don't think I can do what Tyranitar does?"

Mewtwo's complaint made Silas want to laugh and cry at the same time. Sure, Mewtwo wasn't a true Tier 1 god, but his abilities had clearly made him the strongest member of Silas's team. Silas only sent Mewtwo out first today to make sure nothing went wrong—he wanted to end things fast and keep his other Pokémon safe from injuries.

But explaining all that was pointless. He just promised, "Extra treats at lunch."

"Two meals!" Mewtwo shot back immediately, bargaining without shame. It wasn't that Mewtwo lacked pride—he just craved power that badly. Every meal made him feel himself getting stronger, and anything mixed with crystals was just so damn delicious, he couldn't quit even if he tried!

Heh... Silas's mouth twitched, and he narrowed his eyes. "Dragonite's not that much weaker than you, and I haven't even—"

"Deal!" Mewtwo cut him off in a heartbeat.

"Alakazam!" While Silas and Mewtwo were still haggling, Kyouya jumped back in, "Go—keep up the pressure! Spam Psycho Cut!"

'Alakazam!'

Suddenly, an endless barrage of Psycho Cuts flew at Mewtwo, raining down from all sides!

Watching the onslaught come his way, Mewtwo's expression didn't change in the slightest. Without waiting for a command, he formed a pitch-black Shadow Ball in his hand and hurled it straight toward the storm of Psycho Cuts!

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! As each Psycho Cut hit the Shadow Ball, it exploded like paper in a hurricane—not a single one could even slow it down!

One Shadow Ball that destructive? Kyouya's face fell. He never expected Mewtwo to be this broken—even a so-called "regular" Shadow Ball was this insanely powerful?!

"Teleport!" Kyouya yelled as the Shadow Ball closed in on Alakazam.

'Alakazam!'

Blue light flashed across Alakazam's eyes, and he instantly blinked away to a new corner. Kyouya almost relaxed, but before he could even finish exhaling, his breath caught in his throat again.

Somehow, the Shadow Ball, which had been flying dead straight, suddenly curved in midair—continuing to chase Alakazam, moving even faster than before!

"Teleport—!"

Boom!

'Alakazam!!!'

Kyouya tried to shout out another order, but didn't even get the words out before Mewtwo's Shadow Ball hit Alakazam head on, the resulting explosion drowning out his Pokémon's scream. When the smoke finally cleared, Alakazam was revealed, sprawled on the ground—completely out of commission!

Kyouya sucked in a sharp breath. His Alakazam wasn't just any fighter—he was knocking on the door of Champion level, already in touch with elemental powers. Even so, he got one-shotted by Mewtwo? The gap between them was downright terrifying.

"Instant KO? No way, right? This is the quarterfinals—how can this be happening?!"

"Yeah, that was a one-hit knockout! This is the first time something like that's ever happened in the Indigo tournament Elite Eight!"

"Actually, it kinda makes sense—Mewtwo's a Legendary. If he couldn't do something like that, would he even deserve the title?"

While Kyouya reeled from the defeat, the audience exploded with chatter.

What Mewtwo just showed was a level of power that felt totally invincible.

"Another instant KO!" As the stadium buzzed, the commentator's excited voice rang out. "Yesterday in the Sweet Sixteen round, Silas scored a pair of instant KOs thanks to Tyranitar! Now here he is in the quarterfinals—Mewtwo leads off with a KO! Is Silas really just gonna instant-KO his way right to the top? Seriously, who's gonna stop him?!"

Stop him?

No one could.

The commentator's words made Kyouya shake his head. Just from this one match—and all the info he'd gathered—he could already glimpse the full extent of Silas's abilities. It was bottomless. Unreachable. The kind of chasm that made you feel hopeless, like staring into a bottomless abyss. Maybe only another Legendary could match him—among humans, Silas was absolutely peerless!

But even so, Kyouya had no intention of giving up. If anything, it made him value this match even more. He knew that just by sparring with the best Trainer alive, he'd gain insights worth more than any victory. Maybe he'd even discover some new path for himself.

"Come back!" Kyouya returned Alakazam to his ball, then threw out another Poké Ball. "Your turn! Gardevoir!"

'Gardevoir!'

A dainty, white bipedal Pokémon appeared on the field, with emerald hair, a pointed face, and arms that faded into slender, glove-like fingers. Her lower half billowed like a green-lined gown, her legs long and elegant beneath it.

This lovely, almost girl-like Pokémon could only be the queen of Psychics—Gardevoir!

"Wow!" Gardevoir's entrance won the instant affection of both boys and girls in the stands. Even the commentator was surprised: "Didn't expect Kyouya's second Pokémon to be Gardevoir—she's so cute! Isn't he worried that Silas will just have Mewtwo, uh, crush a flower with brute force?"

Crush a flower with brute force!

The second that phrase left his lips, many spectators shot Silas dirty looks and some even yelled out loud.

"Hey, go easy on her! She's basically a lady! Hit too hard and you'll never get a girlfriend!"

"He's ruthless with ugly stuff, fine, but don't go so hard on the cuter ones!"

"Silas, remember to act like a gentleman!"

All those comments made Silas roll his eyes, and then frown a little.

He couldn't figure out what Kyouya was thinking. This Gardevoir was clearly about as strong as Alakazam—around peak Elite Four, maybe half a step toward Champion. So surely Kyouya knew what was going to happen—why send her out to get beaten up?

As if reading Silas's mind, Kyouya flashed another sunny grin: "Mewtwo is the god of Psychics—and also the one every Psychic Pokémon looks up to. I figured, now that we have the chance, Gardevoir would want to experience the might and power of a god firsthand!"

"Even if it means getting hurt?"

"Gardevoir," Kyouya ignored Silas, smile still wide. "What do you think? You wanna fight?"

"Gardevoir!"

Gardevoir glanced at Mewtwo with a mix of terror and awe, then gave a shy little nod.

Seeing her and Kyouya both resolved, Silas gave his command: "Mewtwo! Use Confusion!"

In a blink, Mewtwo—eyes closed until now—snapped them open, a fierce blue light blazing out. That terrifying psychic force instantly crashed down on Gardevoir, wrapping her up in an aura of pure energy!

It all happened so fast that Kyouya barely reacted in time. He blurted out, "Gardevoir! Break free!"

'Gardevoir~!'

Gardevoir's reply was a helpless moan.

The second she was trapped in Mewtwo's mental grip, the battle-scarred Gardevoir tried everything she could to resist. But every bit of psychic energy she summoned was instantly devoured by Mewtwo's overwhelming force, like pebbles sinking without a trace into the ocean. No matter what she tried, she couldn't break free.

"Slam her!" Silas ordered coldly.

Mewtwo didn't even hesitate. Raising his hand, he made Gardevoir float helplessly into the air.

As Gardevoir drifted higher, Kyouya and the audience could already guess what was coming—and more than a few winced, not wanting to watch. But nothing they felt could stop what happened next!

Just as Gardevoir hit her peak, Mewtwo jerked his hand downward.

BOOM!

'Gardevoir!!!'

Like a comet, Gardevoir plummeted to the arena floor. The impact wracked her with pain and tore a heart-wrenching scream from her throat. But before she even finished, Mewtwo lifted her up again and slammed her back down—again, and again, and again.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

At first, the crowd could hear Gardevoir's cries with every hit. But it wasn't long before the only sound was her body crashing into the ground—more than a few audience members had to cover their eyes. When the slamming stopped, Gardevoir lay still, battered and completely out of commission.

"Continue?" Silas asked calmly.

"Come back!" Kyouya didn't hesitate, recalling Gardevoir and already reaching for his next Poké Ball. "Okay… your turn, buddy…
