"Hello~, students!" Midnight barges through the door with a dramatic flair of her hand.
"Good morning, Midnight!" Mina greets, waving her hand at the hero.
Blowing her a kiss, Midnight quickly makes her way over to the center of the classroom, bumping her hips to push Aizawa away and taking the stage.
She flashes a brilliant smile showing off all her pearly whites, "I'm sure you all know what I'm here for!"
"Hero names!" The class erupts in cheers, rivaling the noise of the stadium just a few days ago.
"Hehe," Giggling, Midnight gestures toward the class. "Aizawa, your class is always so fun! You always say you get headaches around them but I know you love these kids deep down."
"Aww~"
"Don't get me started," Aizawa berates both Midnight and the class following her lead, but a small smirk threatens to emerge. "Let's get this over with."
"Poor, Aizawa," Midnight laughs, flapping her hand in a claw shape mimicking his mouth.
"Don't worry, students," She leans in subtly, smirking before covering her lips in a whisper. "he loves you guys."
"Anyways, let's begin!" Midnight claps her hands right as Aizawa was about to talk back.
"I'm sure Aizawa has told you the basics of today's lesson, but there's a lot more to it than you might expect."
"Most hero names stick like glue, they represent not just yourself, but your agency, your brand, and your voice."
Kaminari head bobs as he nods rapidly, paying much more attention to the new arrival compared to their homeroom teacher just moments ago.
"Look at him," Jiro taps Mina's shoulder and speaks in a low voice. "Kaminari's way too involved this lesson."
Mina glances his way before scooting her chair to whisper. "I can imagine why." She jokes, gesturing to the way Midnight shakes her hips with every sentence.
Must be instinct now.
"Anyways," Midnight begins walking around the classroom distributing both a marker and a small whiteboard. "Let the brainstorming begin!"
—
The others begin chatting about what hero name they should pick. It's going to be a hard decision, all things considered. Even if they have spent their whole lives pondering about this, which I'm sure some of them have, it's still not a decision anyone can make lightly.
Midnight wasn't kidding when she said that names could stick for a hero's entire career. I remember seeing a villain named Sticky Fingers.
You could argue that the name makes sense considering the guy's Quirk and the fact that he's a villain, but who in their right mind would even choose such a name.
Glancing over, it looks like a few people already have their names picked out already. Most definitely the few that have been dreaming of this moment for a long time.
Contrary to what I thought, it looks like Midoriya is having a tough time picking out a moniker.
Glancing over at his board while the world is frozen, I turn back to Bakugo and check over what he'd written.
Lord Explosion Murder
Wow, how original.
Eventually I cancel my Quirk after my interest fades but not before I give my surroundings a once over for any threats. I can never be too sure these days.
As the world resumes, I spot Midnight walking over to Aizawa to talk about something. It's pretty easy to tell, with the way they keep sneaking glances toward Iida's empty seat and then back at me when they think I'm not looking.
I really hope they don't ask me any more questions, that'd be annoying.
Actually, it could be fun if they bring in that Detective again. Oh man, the look on his face was incredible that day after the USJ incident.
After a short amount of time, Midnight brings the group back together and begins our little presentations. Most of them are too nervous to step up, and I'm about to take a stand myself before Aoyama gets in the way to reveal his name.
His hero name, I can not stop twinkling, immediately gets shut down to the amusement of the class. But Midnight sees some potential in it and helps him shorten it down while keeping the same idea.
The following names go by smoothly, with Mina trying to copy some villain from a movie franchise to Asui picking out a fun name like Froppy.
But of course, Bakugo's name gets critiqued by Midnight for being too violent, which results in him only getting more annoyed as he tries to make the name work.
For some reason, Midoriya opts to go with Deku, and you'd think that he's making fun of Bakugo for giving him that nickname but after a little banter we move on to the final participant.
Clearing my throat, I step up to the podium with my board in hand. Midnight steps off to the side, giving me the stage as I pause a moment.
Everyone's looking with expectant eyes, which makes sense, all things considered. Ever since I came to U.A. I've been dominating every aspect of it. But while I could center my hero name around my performance, it's only fitting that I have a name befitting my nature.
Without further ado, I flip the whiteboard up and present it to my classmates.
"The All-Seeing Hero: Vigil?" Mina whispers out loud while reading it.
The others follow suit, with a few nodding along as if they agreed that the name fitted me. From the corner of my eye, I see Aizawa with an interested look on his face.
"Not bad, Renji," Midnight purrs from the side before patting me on the back. "I expected something more arrogant or badass, but Vigil will do just fine!"
She leans in closer, much closer than I would've liked, and whispers. "You know, I've got some fashion agencies that would love to invite a rising star to their banquets and events, won't you be a gentlemen and help me out?"
Sticking out a finger, I push her aside by poking at her shoulder. "Don't take class time as an invitation to scout potential prospects."
A grin flashes across her face in a wild way mimicking a cheshire cat before she speaks again. "Are you sure? It's with Veil & Valor~"
"When and where should I show up?"
Midnight giggles at my immediate response, gesturing for me to take my seat. "I'll send the invitation to your phone by the end of the day. The next event isn't for a while so don't get too excited."
With that, I take my seat among my peers, few of which have decided to gape in my direction as Midnight continues to talk about hero names and more importantly, the benefits of publicity.
"Renji!" Mina whispers from my side urgently, "did I just watch you snag a date with Midnight?"
"And what was that about Veil & Valor?" She continues, pulling a couple curious looks from both Jiro and Hagakure. "You know how hard it is to get an invite from them? I'm surprised Midnight even has a plus one!"
"I'll only be a plus one until I can establish a stable footing there." I turned to whisper back, only after waiting for both Aizawa and Midnight's attention to stray. "If anyone could just throw money at them and get in, then everyone would be able to go."
Mina leaned back in her seat with her arms crossed. "I think you're severely underestimating the importance of this."
That makes me raise an eyebrow as I eye her from the side. "Don't worry, I'm not."
The class goes on just like that, smoothly and without any trouble. You would've expected something to happen during all this but it looks like we have a day off today.
Besides the surprise lesson with Midnight and the internships headed our way, there doesn't seem to be much happening.
Even my frequent scans around campus show nothing, but I do take the time to check out some of the rooms I want to visit sometime, that and a familiar upperclassman.
It's easy to get wrapped up in my Quirk, my little matrix. There's nothing here to bother me, no sounds, no banter, no movement. It's peaceful in its own beautiful way. And with ample entertainment, I could stay here forever.
Swinging my feet off the rooftop, I imagine the way the wind would feel if I were actually up here. Maybe I'll find a rooftop somewhere and designate it as my second home, I doubt Nezu would mind. Unless it's not very discrete and causes a commotion when students notice me up here. Shinkou taught me to be more careful than that.
With the large amount of free time I have, I rest my hand against my chest and feel my heart beat in this frozen world. Despite my body's ability to function in my matrix, I never seem to age within this world. I've already spent countless days checking over my body's condition, especially after my experiment with nanotechnology.
It makes me wonder just how long I'll live. If you count the time I've spent with my Quirk then I may as well be a fossil. Maybe I'll even outlive the planet?
The nanobots coursing through my veins and filling every part of my body will only improve with time, and who knows how much time I'd have. I let out a chuckle as a thought crosses my mind. What if my nanobots could improve while I'm in this state?
There's still so much I don't know about my Quirk, every time I get closer to an answer I'm always set back with more questions. But that's the thrill of it, isn't it? The same drive that pushes people to question the unknown.
Either way, it's safe to say that my brain is the most important part of my being. Well, you could also say the heart, but I think with enough time, planning, and reflexes, I'd be able to survive without a heart long enough to replace it. I already have protocols for that, of course.
So, my brain remains the sole thing capable of keeping my being alive. It holds my consciousness, everything that makes me, me. Hell, maybe even my soul.
Even now, my brain seems to pulse with energy in this still world. I didn't notice it at first, but it's begun leaking into the real world as well. The implications are simply endless.
Is my brain evolving faster than my body? Will I gain some sort of super intelligence like Nezu, except multiplied a thousand times over? Will I become some sort of bobble head figure where my head greatly outweighs the rest of my body?
The only thing I can confirm is that the energy leaking from my brain has yet to do any harm. The few bits I've managed to visualize back home float in place, quiet and still.
Despite the potential dangers of this recent development, an excited smile creeps its way onto my face. Suffice to say, my brain really is the most important part of my body.
